Professor Kalif Styx
Member Avatar
Patriarch of the Zhefarovich Family, Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor, Slytherin Head of House, Former Death Eater, Legilimens, Occlumens

Despite the fact that the sun was shining and students may be itching to get outside and enjoy the weather, Professor Styx had the shades drawn and made the room darker. Professor Styx was once more leaning against his desk with his wand in his left hand. He waited for the rest of the fourth years to come in and take a seat, some of them glowering at the spider in the jar, the very same one from the previous lesson, the one that was tortured. The life of this spider was pitiful, and now was going to end abruptly. The doors closed, and with a wave of his wand, he ensured that everything was as dark as everything else could be, and candles in the room gave the classroom an eerie glow. Professor Styx wanted to make sure that the student could see the light of this curse, how something so beautiful could be so devastating.

The former Death Eater took the spider out of the jar, enlarging it to the size of his hand before he froze the spider and put it on his desk. Everyone should be able to see it from their angle. He stated, "We will be seeing the Killing Curse today. This curse is responsible for taking lives of many good and bad wizards and witches, as well as muggles over the years. The curse is so powerful, there is no known counter curse or antidote. Granted, one survived and it is said that it was the result of the love of his mother. This would lead us to believe perhaps that love itself is an antidote for the killing curse but unless you are going to risk your own life out of love to save another, then the curse still claims a victim. Observe." Professor Styx released the freezing charm from the spider.

Pointing his wand at the spider, Professor Styx intoned clearly, "Avada Kedavra." A gorgeous green light burst from his wand, and hit the spider. The spider looked as though it was frozen again, however one would see that the eyes were glazed over with a ghostly, death like look. It remained completely motionless. The spider's life had ended. "The killing curse causes the victim to look like they had died with no known trauma." With a wave of his wand, the spider was reduced back to its original size, and he swept it off of his desk, where it vanished into the air seeing as there would be no use for it to remain around anymore. "Just revise and study for homework. Class dismissed."

Assignment: Roleplay the lesson.

[justify]The Ravenclaw was ready for the day, she had spent so much of her morning sorting through some of the pictures from the last quidditch game, since it had been such a game, so much excitement, that it had to be something that would be documented in the accio yearbook. She was happy to focus on that, and watching the game had been enjoyable. The teen had never really fancied quidditch, it hadn’t been something for her, but she was rather looking forward to attending more games in the future to take pictures of them if they were as interesting as the one that had just taken place. The girl put that away as she got ready for the classes that she had that day. It wasn’t going to be a very hard week she assumed, it hadn’t been before, even though they were now fourth years, she wasn’t exactly struggling with the workload that she had. Sianna made sure she had all the right bits and pieces for the classes she had, she had a lot of work to take with her, they had had a lot of homework. The serbian girl grabbed her wand, and left the dorm for the classroom.

Sianna walked into the classroom and took her seat within the room. Of course this was the most important week for this class, likely the only way she was going to see this curse was in this way, so the girl was pretty eager. She took her seat in the classroom and leaned forward slightly, looking fairly eager about it. She of course did not revel in death, but this was a part of magic she might not otherwise see. Sianna watched carefully as the professor got started, wasting absolutely no time in getting into it. The girl watched as he explained the curse, how it was irreservible and only one person had ever survived it, before showing them the curse itself. She saw the green flash and then the spider was dead. she felt a little disappointed that it was so quick, at least that was a good thing. She looked at the man as he began explaining a little more about it. She packed up her things and then left the room. despite it being a little disappointed she was pretty happy to have seen it, and to have learned so much about the curses, it was enlightening.

Lilyanna was quite nervous for her next Defence Against The Dark Arts lesson and she wasn't particularly sure why. Last lesson had resulted in her twin leaving the room and Lilyanna didn't know if she was even going to show up to the next one, but tried not to care about it too much as she walked into the classroom and took her usual seat at the front of the room. As expected, the same spider sat in the jar at the front of the room and the Slytherin kept her eyes on it as the professor started the lesson. When he took the spider out of the jar and enlarged it her eyes still stayed fixated on it, knowing perfectly well what was going to happen next. Lilyanna had never thought about death before but she thought that getting killed by the killing curse would be the easiest as it was nice and quick. It didn't mean having to suffer and, most of the time, you don't even know it's coming. But in this circumstance, it was obvious that the spider did. However, it wasn't able to do anything due to its frozen stance and somewhere deep inside the young Slytherin girl she felt sorry for it. As the green light came out of the professor's wand, Lilyanna watched as the spider's eyes changed colour and that was when Lilyanna finally took her eyes off it and looked around the room for Eleanor, but she wasn't anywhere. Maybe it was for the best that she didn't see the look on the spider's face.

Wyatt wasn't sure how he would take this lesson as he knew what was coming. Sure the boy had squashed a fair amount of spiders in his time but this felt a bit barbaric, especially after the last lesson. He only hoped it would be a quick death because anything more than that and the boy would truly and genuinely have to revisit his claim of Styx being a vampire which he had only ever half believed. The boy took his seat as the knot in his stomach grew even more whilst he waited for the class to begin. It felt strange to know that he was being taught about what the Killing Curse looked like when he really should never come across it. The boy wondered if it was common or not and what the point of such a thing being taught to teenagers was but he kept his thoughts to himself as he waited for the class to begin. The class had started and ended as quickly with only a flash of green to punctuate it and Wyatt had held his breath during the whole ordeal and was glad to be dismissed because it was horrible and he doubted that love could save anyone from anything so this class served only for gratuitous violence.

[justify]Marisol was feeling sickly after having gone through her transformation within the past week, and knowing what they would probably be learning about in today's lesson did not make her feel any better. She took her seat at her usual desk and made sure to wrap herself in her thick cardigan. She was frail and cold from taking numerous amounts of potions to get her healthy enough to attend class again, but it always felt like Professor Styx's class was just a few degrees colder by his mere presence in the room. The werewolf didn't bother taking out her supplies to take notes for this class because she wasn't feeling up to par, but she would at least be present and fight through her nausea the entire time and that was the best she could offer to her professor at the moment. Marisol watched as Professor Styx performed the Killing Curse so easily on the spider. She figured this curse would require lots of intent behind it much like the other Unforgivable Curses did, and it came so easily to him. She wondered if the Ministry regulated the use of this curse, but the professor didn't tell them anything about it. Once the demonstration was over, the class was dismissed for which Marisol was glad. She was glad there was no homework assigned so she wouldn't have to dwell on such an awful curse and just wanted to go back up to her room and rest.
