Patriarch of the Zhefarovich Family, Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor, Slytherin Head of House, Former Death Eater, Legilimens, Occlumens

Professor Styx knew that this lesson would be an easy one, which was no issue for him. Professor Styx entered the Defence Against the Dark Arts, and saw that the first years were all here and seated where they should be. They were going to be practicing dueling, and that would be a treat to them. Professor Styx waited for everyone to be silenced before he started, "Today, we will not be taking notes or enduring a lecture. We will be going over two spells, and then using them. One is called Stupefy, a stunning spell. All you would have to do is point and aim. The spell takes some concentration. Also, there is the simple blocking spell. It is Protego. It will block the spells that will be coming at you."

He leaned against the desk, and he continued, "I want you to pair up with a partner, and stand opposite of each other in the front of the room. I want you to attempt to stun each other, while the other uses the spell, Protego, to block the spell." As stated in his first lesson it was part of the rules to bring their wands with them because they would never know when they were going to be using them. "Once everyone is ready, I will instruct you to begin." It looked as though all the first years had found a partner and they were away from the desks and in front of the room. "If someone gets stunned from not using the spell Protego properly, I will revive them. Now begin." Once the practicing began, and he had to revive those that were stunned, it was time to leave. He dismissed them, without homework this time.

Assignment: Roleplay the lesson.

stop staring ... I had spattergroit, ok!

Minerva was still apprehensive about this particular class but now that she knew she needed particular spells in the big wide world just to survive certain encounters, she deemed it a necessity to attend, pay attention, study, do her assignments and practice when the time came to learn actual spells. As she always did in this class she sat with Elly, she knew that Norton wouldn't mind in the slightest and gave him a small wave and a smile. Elly calmed her nerves just by sitting with her in this class and she felt she really needed that.

It was with even more apprehension that she heard the professor telling them that they would be doing spells today, a stunning and protection spell. Minerva glanced at Elly when Professor Styx said to pair up and reached down to hold her friends hand instantly.
"Don't let anyone else stun me, just you" she whispered, ever more nervous as she stood up and took out her wand.

For the duration of the class they practiced hard, it took Minerva a while to get the hang of the stunning spell, it may have been just point your want and cast but it genuinely took a lot of concentration, whereas with the protection spell she felt more confident in casting. The professor revived her a few times and each time, Minerva felt a little zapped of energy but managed to smile and congratulate Elly on a job well done. By the time the class was dismissed, she felt she had a lot of practicing still to do before she it felt easy stunning anyone.

Elly didn't like to do this lesson and was already looking at the door to run away. She didn't want to stun anyone or hurt anyone by using the spell falsely. Elly exhaled deeply and looked at her friends. She sat down next to Minerva and although she already knew what they were doing it was still scary to hear. Was this even allowed or was this the sick humour the Professor had. ''No worries, we will ace this'' Secretly Elly was dying of nerves, but she didn't want to scare Minerva.

Elly and Minerva practised the stunning spell and somehow she got it after two tries. It was hard and she had to concentrate deeply. Protego the blocking spell was easier, Elly didn't like to hurt others, but she did want to defence herself against harm. They practised quite a lot and every time it went better. ''Thanks for doing with with me Minerva'' Elly smiled and gave Minerva a tight hug. When they were finally done with this stupid thing she left the classroom.

Veronica let out of a small breath of relief at arriving in the Defence classroom to find that Professor Styx hadn't arrived yet. She did have a brief scare in thinking that maybe she had gone to the wrong class, but Phoebe was right behind her and so Veronica pressed on, trying to fortify herself for another lesson of her least favourite subject. She had just finished setting up her parchment, ink and quill when the professor strode silently into the room. His words made Veronica's heart drop, and she stared down at her unneeded parchment in dismay. Spells? They were expected to be learning proper defence spells already? She supposed the shield charm would be... useful to know, but - she didn't want to stun anybody! Or be stunned, either! It seemed almost too much to begin learning such material so early - but from little she knew of Professor Styx they would be expected to do it regardless, with no exceptions.

Partnering up with Phoebe by instinct, Veronica still found herself nervous about the lesson ahead. She had an idea of how to approach the two spells, and desperately hoped that her friend would agree with her. "Do you think we should practice the shield charm together first? Only, if one of us keeps failing to block and has to be revived all the time, wouldn't that waste time we could be learning either spell while the other person waits?" Of course, by 'one of us' Veronica had meant herself. Phoebe's magical ability was brilliant, and she was sure her friend would be much better than herself at both spells - and more quickly too. If Phoebe wanted to get started with trying to stun her right away though, Veronica could hardly blame her - it was what they were supposed to be learning after all. She took a few moments to practice the blocking spell herself anyway, and after a few attempts she felt secure enough that her shield charm would at least shimmer into existence. The real question would be whether it would be strong enough to block the force of Phoebe's stunning spell - or if Veronica was quick enough to make the shield appear in time.

Obsessive | Unusual | Starer

[justify]The year just seemed to drag on, and Viktor Styx was not in the best of moods. Spinning a quill between his fingers, the young Ravenclaw made his way through the castle, and eventually toward the class. He could see a few other students, but none of them interested him in the slightest, except one. Isaac. He seemed to be smarter than the rest, and intended to make him a close ally. Viktor didn't know how to approach him just yet. Viktor decided to think this through, while also looking after one other. A Slytherin girl he seemed to be obsessed with. Wynter. The name of his favorite season of all. He figured that one day, she might even like how he was constantly following her. Some girls were into that. His mother was. For a while anyway.

Surpisingly enough, they were not going to be taking notes or enjoying a lecture. That was unusual for the class, since the past three weeks were nothing short of overwhelming lectures. The group would be practicing dueling, which could be useful for him in the upcoming years. He did think about joining the SDA club. Viktor sighed when he heard that they had to pair up with someone. He teamed up with another Ravenclaw, and he decided to let the other person do whatever they wanted to do. So, his partner started off with the stunning spell, which Viktor had to dodge since his spell would not work. He needed to speak a little more apparently. Once he managed to get the shield working, Viktor switched to stunning suddenly, and stunned his opponent. Smirking, Viktor stepped over the other student, and left upon dismissal.

Glancing towards her best friend, she frowned as Minerva grabbed her as soon as they mentioned pairing up. Crossing her arms on her chest, she turned her head away from them, a little pang of both anger and jealousy building up inside her. They were meant to look out for each other. Decided then and there to be the bigger person, she scooped up her books and parchment, and carried them a few feet towards Sophie. "Hey". The two of them may not have been close as they were with other girls, but they were certainly beginning to appreciate the others company.

Geo nudged her friend, "Don't you think he's cute?" Once again, it was hard for Geo to pay attention in this class, but eventually she got out her wand, and begun to carefully practise the charm. Once the lesson was completed, still annoyed at Elizabeth, Geo linked her arm through Sophie's as they headed out the classroom. She hadn't spent enough time with this girl and it was about time that changed.
