Summers waited comfortably at his desk for the first years to file in for yet another lesson. Unfortunately, they still wouldn't be doing any wandwork just yet. As they each took their seats, he rose from him and started into the day's topic. "Good morning! Great to see you all back. Wands won't be required today, sorry, but we have some more theory to get through before moving on to the exciting stuff." There were a few groans and other disappointed sounds, but the professor simply rolled his eyes. He wanted to get to spellcasting as much as they did.

"We'll try get through this quickly. Your first year is all about introductions and general familiarization, which I'm sure you've found to be the case in other subjects too. While you won't be performing most types of Transfiguration during this year, with the sole focus being Inanimate to Inanimate, you will need to know about what you'll be learning in future to help you prepare for it. Next year you'll be going into Inanimate to Animate, and so on through the list we covered earlier in the year." The wizard gestured toward the board with his wand as he spoke, causing the chalk to come to life, as usual, and write up the list again for those who needed a refresher.

"These are your building blocks. Think of Inanimate to Inanimate transfiguration as the foundation for which the others build upon. That being said, Animate to Animate transfiguration will provide the backbone for nearly every advanced transfiguration spell that you will learn in future years. You must capable of transfiguring animals in general before you can hope to learn to switch, vanish, or conjure them, or even put your hands on human transfiguration." He paused to allow the few stragglers to keep up with their note-taking before he continued on, hands moving animatedly as he spoke. "Of course, human transfiguration, as you should know from lesson one, includes the animagus transformation. An animagus, for those of you who weren't paying attention, is a wizard or witch who can transform into a specific animal at will, though they are rare. This school however, has trained more animagi than any other that I'm aware of. Myself and even the Deputy Headmaster are both animagi, as have been a few other professors who have taught here. Naturally, with this power comes responsibility, and the Ministry has regulations in place to avoid us causing havoc, if we wanted to." He stopped once more and flicked his wand towards the blackboard. The chalk floated away from the list it had already written up and began working on another.
Quote:

Animagi: Requires a license and is heavily regulated. The Ministry has a list of registered animagi, for obvious reasons. Any animagi found to not be on the list faces time in Azkaban prison.

Apparition: A license is required to apparate legally. You will learn to apparate in year six, and not a moment before.

Invisibility: The Ministry has tried time and again to keep restrictions on the use of invisibility cloaks and spells, unfortunately to no avail.

Muggles: The Department of the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts office, also known as Creation of Dangerous Objects Department, attempts to minimize the number of harmful objects created from muggle items. Sometimes they are successful, sometimes not.

Time Travel: This branch is heavily restricted, and for obvious reasons. Very few people ever receive permission to travel back in time.

"And with that we have homework. Nothing too extensive, more just a survey on your opinions that will give you some easy extra credit. That's all, class is dismissed." The Professor finished, conjuring a sheet of parchment on each students desk before they left.
Essay: Should there be more or less laws limiting transfiguration spells?

The Valentine’s day ball had not been what Bao had expected, for one it had been a formal event very like the yuleball, but with the theme of love she had expected it to be a little less formal, not that she had gone for anything other than formal, but it had been a good choice. The other was the boy who had been seemingly staring at her and following her around for most of the evening. She had felt exceedingly weirded out by it, but really she had just left it be, not doing anything proactive about it. Perhaps it was a New Zealand thing, or a boy thing to do that, and she didn’t really want to get any more involved than she was already. Perhaps that was why she was opting to ignore that it had ever happened and instead put the boy and the event out of her mind and look to what was coming up. She had put her books into her page, gathered up the carefully produced homework for the day and placing that also into her bag. With that the girl made sure that she looked presentable and then left the dorm heading straight for the class.

After two interesting lesson, Bao entered the transfiguration read enthused. She wanted to be doing actual magic but it definitely appeared to her that they would be continuing just doing theory. The professor confirming as much as Bao got settled in her seat and the professor began. it was much like potions, first they needed to learn some background before they could move forward, Bao could understand that. She listened as the professor began his lecture, taking out her notes and beginning to write down what the man was saying. He was speaking fairly fast and she was having a little problem keeping up but Bao still knew she was doing better than she had in prior lectures. She looked to the backboard behind the professor as it wrote about different sorts of things that the ministry intervened on when it came to transfiguration. The girl wrote those down too, knowing that would be somewhat interesting to her. With that however, the lesson was over, the man had finished up his lecture and given them homework. Bao took a note of it, and consider the question as she left the room. She understood it fine, but she wanted to do well in the class, so she wasn't just going to do it without thinking.

Sara entered the Transfiguration classroom, taking her seat and really not feeling like yet another lecture, however the weeks were going by relatively quickly so she didn't mind as much anymore like she used to. Her parchment now on her desk and quill in hand, she began to write down notes, making sure to keep up with Professor Summers as he seemed to give a lot of information at once. She also copied down, in short, what was on the board. She inwardly sighed at the homework given, another essay, however she packed away after she wrote down exactly what the topic was and thanked Professor Summers on her way out.
