Professor Styx was in the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom earlier than the rest of the first years. They were going to be arriving at once point. Professor Styx leaned against the desk and he stared at the open doors to see that some of the first years had arrived, and this was another lecture that they were going to have to endure. They were all soon seated and then they were going to be learning more about the Dark Arts today. He began the lesson, "Whilst we have been talking more about the general idea of the Dark Arts, we will be learning about some specific usages and their effects as well. These are rather famous usages which Death Eaters and Aurors alike use them in combat." Professor Styx paused for just a moment for the time being, wondering if they were getting any idea of what he was speaking of.

"Who can tell me the three most famous Dark curses are?" Students rose their hands, and he nodded at one, and the student answered correctly. "Precisely. These curses are powerful and relentless. The person who would be casting the curses must want ill and harm to come in order to use these curses properly. However, if used enough, they will overwhelm the caster with anger, frustration, everything you can think of that is wicked and evil." Professor Styx gazed around the classroom to see everyone that was wrapping their heads around this subject. "Aurors are allowed to use these curses against dark wizards or witches and have a license to kill. They are, regardless, illegal and wrong. They corrupt people when used enough, even Aurors." Professor Styx tapped on the board and the homework wrote itself on the board for the students to copy down.

"List the Unforgivable Curses and write an essay on their effects. You are to have this finished for the next lesson." Professor Styx looked at the time and they were almost going over the time that they had for this period. He told the class, "Class is dismissed just a little early. This will give you more time to get done with the assignment." The doors opened and the class was free to leave.

Assignment: Roleplay the lesson and do the assignment in the lesson.

Elly sat once again next to her new found friend Minerva and smiled at her. Somehow DADA intrigued her, it was cool to learn about things that were illegal. Not that she was into such activities, but learning about it was somehow amazing. The lesson started and Professor Styx was his lovely self. This class was going to be on dark curses, luckily for Elly her mom had told them to her. She knew them all, and what they did. You should never use them though, you would get a one way trip to Wizarding jail. Elly shrugged thinking about them, they were extremely powerful. You did need to want to use the curse though, otherwise they wouldn't work. Elly her hand rose in the air and she hoped the Professor would pick her. The Professor pointed at her and Elly was happy. ''They are the cruciatus curse, the imperius curse and the worst one isr known as the killing curse'' Elly muttered, she was a bit scared to mention them.

The homework was something Elly did want to make, she hated the History of magic homework. DADA homework was exciting and it was totally rad that you could write about illegal practises. When the class was done Elly left the classroom with enough motivation to make homework for the next four years probably.

Defense against the dark arts lesson 3

The three unforgivable curses

There are three curses and those are called unforgivable because they are extremely forbidden. The first curse is the cruciatus curse which is used to torture and causes immense pain. If it is used for longer periods of times the victim can forget itself. The cruciatus curse is the least horrible one of the three. The next one is the imperius curse which gives the caster control over its victim. You can literally tell the victim to do everything. The last curse is the killing curse, which is the worst one of the three. It emits a green light and it will instantly kill the victim.

stop staring ... I had spattergroit, ok!

DADA gave Minerva the Hebe jebeeies and she almost dreaded each class, it wasn't so much that she was afraid of learning about defending herself against the dark arts because knowledge is power after all but it was more that there were these dark arts out there to begin with and she had no control over them and any defensive magic that she learned now would only be extremely basic. Yet if she didn't learn the basics, she wouldn't be able to learn the harder stuff she had told herself.

Besides having Norton in the classroom, DADA was made far more easier because Elly was there too. They always sat with one another now in DADA and Minerva had found herself wondering if her friend knew her so well that she knew how this subject made her feel. They had spoken about it briefly before but with each lesson, Minerva's attitude and feelings seemed to fluctuate. Today when she discovered the subject was about the unforgiveables, she felt her stomach heave but knew she had to know them in order to protect herself from them.

She smiled that Elly was able to answer the questions, this was a first for her that she could not. She was less inclined to read her defensive spell book than she was to read her transfiguration ones and knew she had to start changing her attitude about that or she could get hexed very quickly without any means of defense at all. An essay was given and Minerva wrote it down before leaving with Elly and letting Norton know she would meet up with him later.

By the time she did get back to her dorm later that afternoon, she felt ready enough to write up the essay that was required.

DADA lesson 3

The Imperius curse forces the victim to do the caster's bidding but it is the only one of the three unforgiveable curses that can be fought if the mind is strong enough. The Cruciatus Curse causes severe amounts of pain and prolonged use of it can lead to an irreversible state of insanity. The Killing Curse has no counter curse at all, it kills a person instantly leaving no trace of injury. The use of each of these curses upon another person is punishable by imprisonment in Azkaban.

Short | Inspired | Has Big Plans

Veronica was becoming less and less enthused to spend time in her Defence Against the Dark Arts class as time went on. Not only did the classroom and professor make her uncomfortable, she wasn't even happy to learn about the course material. The Dark Arts were depressing, and all the horrible things that could be done with them were horrible to read about. She was actually taking the textbook one chapter at a time, only reading what she had to for the next class - an act that was unprecedented by any class she'd had before. This lesson was no different, and Veronica didn't like the sound of these Dark curses they would be learning about. Hearing about the effects to the users of such spells, she couldn't understand why anyone would want to ever perform such terrible spells - hurting others was bad enough, but why would anyone want to hurt themselves at the same time? At the end of the lesson Veronica wrote down the homework reluctantly, hoping she wouldn't have to research too much information in order to write a satisfactory essay.

Defence Against the Dark Arts, Lesson Three

There are three Unforgiveable Curses known to the wizarding world, and they are called this because their effects are so horrible and damaging to victims that the use of these spells are considered one of the worst things wizards can do to one another. The three curses are known as the Imperius, Cruciatus, and Killing Curses, and their effects are as explained below.

The Imperius Curse
This curse forces the victim to do anything the user wants them to, unless they are strong enough to throw the spell off. Although some actions that may be taken with this spell could be considered harmless, such as making someone sit in a certain place, most uses are far more terrible in nature, which is why it is commonly known as a curse. This curse is considered Unforgiveable because it takes away the victim's free will which, although bad enough by itself, is made infinitely worse by the damaging things people can be forced to do to themselves or others when under the compulsion of the curse and its caster.

The Cruciatus Curse
This curse causes high intensity pain to the victim, and is generally used as a torture method. It is considered Unforgiveable because of the damage it can inflict on the victim, which can range from small physical after-effects to long-term mental effects. Harming another person in any manner is a terrible thing to do, and although torturing someone is considered to be one of the most terrible crimes that can be conducted in this manner, the Cruciatus Curse is not the most grievous curse in existence.

The Killing Curse
This curse is considered to be the worst of all the Unforgiveable Curses, because as the name states, the use of this curse causes the victim's death. If someone is hit with this spell the effect is always instantaneous and unescapable (except in the famous case of Harry Potter in 1981). It is the highest of crimes to take another person's life, and the use of such a curse not only invites the most serious of punishments, but also inflicts damage on the users own soul for performing such a horrible deed.
