Muggle Studies,6,3 Professor Kaibryn had her arms crossed over her chest, sitting back in her chair with her legs upon her desk. Her head was tilted backwards as she stared at a spot on the ceiling and then with a sigh she swung her long legs back down to the ground as the students opened the door and began to enter. Sitting up straight she waited for them to be seated before leaning forward with arms propped on the desk before her. "Today we are going to talk about electricity ... what it is and why muggles rely on it so much, so do take notes" she hoped that at their age that reminding them about note taking had been unnecessary but she didn't really know any of these students yet and wasn't about to make a rookie mistake like letting them slip on taking their note when they would need them for studying. "Electricity is the flow of electrical power, there are different types of energy sources, we as wizards use the primary sources like the sun, wind, tides, water, wood ... natural environmental sources and then there are secondary sources like electricity. It's a secondary source which means that we only get it by converting other sources of energy. Electricity is extremely versatile and muggles apply it to an exorbitant amount of uses ... such as lighting, heating, communication and transport." She spoke to the class about the science of eletricity, how eletric charges move from one atom to another, how every thing in the universe is made up of atoms mentioning nucleus, protons, neurons and electrons. Words that were possibly never heard of by the students before. She explained each of them before continuing informing them of electric currents, electric fields, electric potential until she came to electromagnetism. "I am sure you have all been told at some point that muggle electronic equipment cannot work around large concentrations of magic but why is that exactly?" she barely paused because she wasn't really expecting an answer from students, "consider that electromagnetism is a force of nature ... between protons and eletrons, in other words elecrtomagnetism holds matter together but also describes how a magnet field is created" she stood up and held up her wand, creating a small stream of lightening that flickered at the end of her wand and shot upwards about a meter. "Consider that magic ... is also a force of nature, it has its own electrons, protons ... atoms. It is thought but still being researched that muggle electricity has the same magnetic field as wizarding magic" she flicked her wrist and the stream of lightening stopped. Putting away the wand she picked up instead two magnets and held them up to the class, "a magnetic field is invisible, no one can see it but imagine for a minute that this end here" she indicated one end of a magnet, "is the north pole and this end" she indicated the other end of the other magnet, "is the south pole" she began moving the magnets towards one another," there is a magnetic draw .. a force that attracts them to one another but ... if I were to try to put both north pole ends" she did exactly that to indicate what would happen, "then both would repel from the other" she handed the magnets around so the students could have a go for themselves. "The theory is, muggle electricity and wizarding magic are two north poles repelling furiously from one another as soon as they come into contact. This only works one way however, muggle electricity becomes useless but magic is still viable ... again why this is still only a theory and has not been proven. Perhaps someday it will all be figured out. No written homework this week but do read the chapter on electricity please." She dismissed the class before returning to her seat once again. --------------------------------- rp the lesson for full marks attendance post gets at the most an E |

Isabelle entered the muggle studies classroom for the third time that year and took her usual seat in the room. Today they were learning about electricity which Isabelle had heard about before. Her mother had always spoken about it and Isabelle even had the privilege to see what it did when she was very small. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to do that now and instead could only go off what the professor was telling her. Throughout the whole lesson, Isabelle took as many notes as she could, translating them in French where she needed to. By the end of the lesson she was rather pleased with everything she had noted down and left the classroom when instructed, heading straight to her next class. Notes
