Professor Kaibryn waited for all her students to enter the classroom before placing a rusted bucket on top of her desk. "Today we are going on a field trip ... no ordinary field trip mind you. You've all probably been to see a lot of quidditch games, wizarding chess tournaments, gobstone tournaments and dueling matches... well muggles are famous for their passion for sport and here in New Zealand the sport played by muggles is a representation of British sport because of New Zealand's colonial history. Rugby union and rugby league, cricket, soccer and netball are the primary muggle sports" dressed in black trousers and hooded black top with the cowl low over her shoulders, Faida moved to a large box that was also on her desk and removed a black cap and placed it on her head, "this team" she pointed to the name on the front, "is globally famous, they are globally respected and loved ... they are known as The All Blacks. Come up to the front and take a cap, remove your school robes and leave them on your desks, you can get them when we return" she moved behind her desk and touched the bucket, waiting for each of the students to take a cap, "now when you are all ready, please touch this bucket and do not let go. The sensation will be strange for those that have never traveled by port key before but it is very safe." Once the last student placed their hand upon the bucket, the students and Faida were teleported to a huge stadium. Jade Stadium had stood the test of time, expanded and upscaled on many occasions and famous for hosting national and international rugby games. That day there was to be a huge game between the New Zealand All Black's and the Lions Team which was a collection of players from England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. Faida had tickets already purchased for them and directed the students to the doors that led them through the ticket gate, once through they were directed to their seats but Faida took them through to the food and drink stalls first. She hadn't bothered getting a box but had the students sitting in good seats about six rows back from the front and center. "All the fans just sit together, there isn't any ambiguity - it's a lot of fun and camaraderie and the games do not last for days or weeks like quite a few quidditch games I can remember" she smiled at them and knowing they had plenty of time before the game started, let them explore the merchandise shop before buying them snacks and drinks for the game. As singing began on the pitch, Faida checked her watch and rounded up the students to go to their seats. Once all seated, she looked about her at the packed stadium. "There won't be any firework displays or any entertainment showdown before hand ... except a bit of music, the national anthem and the rugby anthem and ..." she grinned, "the Haka!" When all transpired as she had said, Faida herself sat back to enjoy the All Blacks performing the Haka - it was seriously impressive and intimidating if you weren't used to it and then the game began. It was another two hours before they were back at the classroom again, collecting their robes. "Keep the caps as a momento, I want a short piece not about what you thought of the muggle sport but of the Haka before it began and why you believe this tradition has carried on for so long. I hope you enjoyed yourselves. Class dismissed." --------------------------- Rp the lesson for full marks homework assignment gets extra credit Attendance one paragraph posts will at best earn you an 'E' For assistance in knowing about the Haka click on the link below. As Lilyanna entered the muggle studies classroom for the third time that year she was a bit disappointed that they weren't going to be given a lecture and were instead going to have to leave the castle and go on a field trip. Luckily, they were going into the muggle world and Lilyanna was interested to see how sports worked there. As the football game started, she was a bit confused as to why there were no fireworks. Instead, they did a silly dance and sang a silly song and Lilyanna raised her eyebrows, wondering why they did that. It was a stupid thing, but at least the game played out quite well and it didn't last as long as she was expecting it to. When the lesson ended, Lilyanna headed back to the classroom with the rest of the class and thanked the professor before leaving. |
