Professor Aeon Summers
Member Avatar
Canine Animagus ☼ Spell Inventor Magical Menagerie Proprietor Transfiguration Professor 1-4 Brodie's Familiar

Professor Summers was excited to begin today's lesson, eyeing the biscuit tin pushed to the side of his desk. He recalled going through the same lesson in his fourth year, and it had been a lot of fun. Things were a little different now than they were in the old days, however.

Aeon leaned back in his chair as the students walked in, some immediately noticing the tin sitting in plain view. Items on his desk, other than paper and quills, usually pertained to the day's subject. He waited for them to take their seats, some curious, others oblivious, until finally he stood up to address them. "Good morning and welcome back. Today's lesson is going to involve transfiguration and food." He explained, picking up the tin and shaking it between his hands, the biscuits rattled around inside until he withdrew one. In appearance, it resembled a mundane custard cream.

"This is called a canary cream. Not many people eat them on a regular basis, though. Can any of you tell me why?" He pointed at a student with their hand up in the back row.

"...Because we'll turn into canaries?" They said.

Professor Summers smiled again at the answers accuracy. "Exactly. Once upon a time, transfiguration spells were placed into objects so that when they were touched; or in this case, ingested, a transfiguration spell was triggered."

"Back in Ireland in the 1300's, a man by the name of Aksel cast a spell into a rock in the middle of a wooded area that caused everyone that touched it to have their fingers turned into sausages. To this day, no one knows why a wizard would cast such a randomly malicious spell, but for some reason or another, use of the spell fell into sharp decline shortly after. Today's wizards seem to only imbue objects with magic to fulfill the youth's unquenchable thirst practical jokes."

Professor Summers picked the little biscuit up and continued to speak. "These little treats look tasty and small, but the spells that go into them to turn the eater into a canary are some of the difficult to cast. First you've got to cast a spell to turn the object itself into an enchanted object, much like you would to create a portkey. Then you've got to cast a transfiguration spell--a switching spell, to be precise, into it in such a manner that it will radiate outward to affect another object or person."

"One would think that such a complicated spell would draw the most intelligent and powerful wizards to think of creative and useful ways to use it but so far we have joke items."
He looked around the room with a devilish smirk on his face. When he was a student, the professor had convinced him to eat one, then promptly transfigured herself into a cat to chase him around the classroom as a canary. Fun times. "So. Is there anyone brave enough to eat this?"
Homework: None. Feel free to RP trying the canary cream. There's plenty to go around. ;)

Lilyanna entered the transfiguration classroom for the second time that year and took her usual seat at the front of the room. Today they were going to be given a good lecture and Lilyanna excitedly took out all of her writing equipment and listened intently to everything the professor had to say. He picked up a canary cream and proceeded to ask the class why not many people ate them. Lilyanna hesitantly put up her hand before telling him, "...Because we'll turn into canaries?" and he told her she was correct. Lilyanna figured that was a stupid question to ask as she continued to listen to him. When asked if anyone would try the canary first, Lilyanna shook her head and stayed back, figuring she did not want to be a part of that.

Eleanor was happy for her next Transfiguration lesson. However, as she entered the room and took her usual seat, they were given a lecture on canary creams. Ellie liked eating food but she didn't particularly care about the history of it and much preferred to just eat the silly thing instead of wasting time. She hadn't tried a canary cream before as she knew what they did to you and didn't particularly want to turn into a bird and not be able to turn back. But when the class was asked who wanted to try the canary cream first, Eleanor's face lit up and her hand went straight in the air. "Me!" she exclaimed, jumping up from her seat and making her way over to the professor. She took the canary cream from him and shoved it into her mouth. At first nothing really happened until she felt herself begin to become smaller and wings began to form. Before she knew it she had turned into a yellow canary and was using her wings to stay in the air. She tried to speak but instead sounded exactly like a bird. Excitedly, she tried to fly around but became unbalanced and fell onto the floor with a small thud. She frowned before shaking her feathers off. She wanted nothing more now than to change back.

[justify] Sianna had more and more work as the weeks went on, knowing that soon at the end of this week she would have to go to the valentines ball without a date and without really anything but her work for accio being the driving force for why she was there. The girl didn’t really want to go, she really didn’t, but it was her job. It was her job to be there. To do it. She was getting ready for the day, taking it slowly, taking the time to slowly brush her hair. Applying to a fine amount of make up and think about her life choices so far. She had sent a rose to Lennon, and she wasn’t sure if she should’ve, but the last show at the yuleball had been enough for her to know she would rather have his friendship than pursue anything romantically with him. She wanted him to know that, she wanted that to be as clear as she could make it and a rose of friendship was how she knew to do it. The girl took her time getting ready, but eventually she was at the very least dressed and ready for the day. She put a few of her books into her bag as she made sure she had everything before leaving the dorm to face the day.

Sianna walked into the transfiguration classroom and took her seat within the room. The ravenclaw had done some light reading about what the switching spell would involve and was eager to really try it herself. She looked to the professor as he got started, wondering for a brief moment how the lesson was actually going to involve food, it seemed a little silly. But as he said canary cream, she knew exactly what she was in store for. The teen had seen them, seen them in action before she didn't need a class explanation and demonstration about what they did, but she had never actually thought of them as switching spells, though it made sense in her head now. Sianna listened to the man's lecture on the background of the canary cream, finding it weirdly interesting, noting down a few of the points that she believed would be important. She wasn't interested in eat the dessert and so was happy when someone else tried it and became the canary they biscuit made them. She was glad when the lesson was brought to a close and she was able to leave the room.

[justify]Zared was in a little bit of disbelief over how things were he couldn’t have imagined winning a duel and much less could he have imagined spending more time with Elysia in preparation for it. He liked Elysia so much, he knew it showed, he had expressed it in a rose that she would get and he hoped that she would want to spend the time with him at the valentine’s day ball, and these things all made the slytherin both so nervous and yet so excited. The boy considered this his last open attempt to see if she liked him back, but he was certainly feeling this moment of fleeting bravery in doing all of it, and if she wanted to go to the valentine’s dance together or express that she liked him a little back, then that would be the best thing to ever happen to him. The teen was getting ready for the day of school, his mind just elsewhere that it took him several attempts before his bag was packed with the right books, but in the end he was ready to go, he had gathered everything he could possibly need for the day, and was just ready to face it.

Zared walked into the transfiguration classroom feeling pretty confident about this class, he felt sure that he would manage the switch spell they'd do with little problem. He was sure of it, from what he'd read the switching spells were largely non-verbal, he could do just fine at those. He could do that. The boy took his seat within the room and looked to the professor at the front as he began the lesson. it became fairly clear to Zared that he wasn't going to be able to do any switching spells, and rather they were learning about a sweet that had a switching spell within it. The boy felt somewhat frustrated that they wouldn't be doing the spells themselves, but he kept his attention on the professor, making sure that everything the man said about the origin of the sweets were written down. Since the background had actually been fairly interesting. However, he had no interest in eating one of the sweets themselves, it seemed silly to him. Why would he want to do that in front of everyone, and he didn't think they tasted particularly good either. So he was glad that he din't have to do it. Rather when everyone else who wanted to had had their fill he packed up his things and left the room.

[justify]The first week had gone a lot better than Ares had thought it would. There was just something that was going well about it. The duelling had been a surprising part of it, but it had been enjoyable, his partner in the first round had been an enjoyable person to compete against and he felt bad with the timing of it, because he would’ve loved to send the girl a rose, just for making the experience good for him, even if she had had no intention of ever doing that for whomever she’d been up against. The teen had a second duel coming up and he had far less hopes for it, but he was looking forward to simply being able to try it again. The boy was happy that he’d decided to try it. It had been a somewhat sudden decision in his mind but if he could fight then he had something more than quidditch going for him. This was why he was trying in classes as well as trying new experiences that would broaden his hogwarts career. With that in his mind it drove him to be motivated for the classes that he had that day. He was just finishing getting ready, when the boy realised he had to get to class.

Ares knew they would be doing more of switching spells in this transfiguration lesson and so was ready to learn more about it. He took his seat within the room and when the professor started was surprised that what they would be covering were canary creams, he'd come across them in the past of course, but he felt pretty silly for never making the connection between them and the magic inside of them. The teen listened to the professor explain them and their history, the interesting history of which Ares took several notes. however the more interesting part of the lesson was actually trying them, he'd never had one before, seen them yes, had them before, no. The boy watched as Ellie tried one first before he walked forward and tried one too. he took a large bite and he felt it immediately. He felt himself float almost, become different in size, for his perspective to change, it was such an intriguing thing. He wondered why there weren't more candies like this. With that the boy seemed to return to his normal state and he was able to pack up and leave the room.

[justify]Lennon was excited to get to Transfiguration class today because the subject matter always intrigued him. It was a bit on the harder side of magic, but the theory behind it was interesting to him. The Ravenclaw walked in and smiled at Sianna as he took a seat beside her and took out his supplies to take notes. He was very hopeful that they might learn how to do switching spells today since the professor had introduced them to the subject of it last week. He was a little surprised but curious as to why the professor was talking about canary creams, but once the reason was revealed he grew even more intrigued. He had never considered what type of magic went into making joke items such as canary creams. The items were so juvenile but the magic it took to create them seemed complicated. He chuckled a little as the professor implied what Lennon had been thinking. Why would someone waste their talents in magic on such joke items? Still, the product was fairly sold and used often so their efforts hadn't gone to waste.

Lennon continued to take notes on the lecture, finding the history of the object and the magic involved very interesting. Even if he wasn't able to learn how to do a switching spell today, the lesson had been fun. When Professor Summers asked if someone wanted to try a canary cream, Lennon hesitated and looked around. He saw someone else raise their hand first so he was glad because he wanted to see it in action. He laughed as he saw Ellie turn into a canary and thought the experience might be cool to try out - as long as the professor switched him back to his normal form afterward. Lennon decided not to miss out so he stood up and walked to the front of the room so he could eat one of the biscuits as well. He was eager to see what would happen and it didn't taste too bad either. All of a sudden he could feel himself shift and change into a small bird, flapping his arms - wings - to stay in the air. He zoomed around the room giddy with the feeling, before landing rather ungracefully at the professor's desk to patiently wait to be turned back.
