Professor Aeon Summers

Canine Animagus ☼ Spell Inventor Magical Menagerie Proprietor Transfiguration Professor 1-4 Brodie's Familiar

Upon entry to the classroom, many of the students may have noticed the presence of a somewhat colourful jar atop the professors desk, its contents seeming to move about in a rainbow mess. A handful tried to get a closer look, but were waved away by the professor and told to wait for the lesson to begin before they'd find out what was inside.

"Sit down everyone," said Professor Summers, grinning. "Today we are going to work on our first transfiguration spell of this year." He said, walking in front of the class. He could see excitement on students' faces at doing some practical work. He himself was excited, as he preferred spellcasting over writing constantly. As a student, using magic in class would always give him a rush, as if nothing could stop him now that he could turn turtles into tortoises.

"In the last lesson we learned about Animate to Inanimate Transfiguration, and that's what we are going to do today." He said and held up the colourful jar from the table.

"Beetles," He announced, raising the jar just above his chest so everyone could see the small insects scittering around inside. "We are going to transfigure them into coat buttons. Small objects especially insects are easiest to transfigure, because you don't have as much detail to worry about," He said, handing the jar to a girl in the front row. "Keep one beetle with you, and pass out the others among the rest."

The students took a long time to choose a beetle of their choice. There was quite the variety, colours, spots, sizes. Finally, after the last student had selected a beetle, Aeon continued the lesson. "Hold onto your beetles, don't let them escape; be gentle though, we don't want them dead. Please try not to kill them. Now, you will find that in transfiguration that it is easier to change items that are closer in size to each other. Matchsticks and needles are of the same size, shape, and weight. Essentially all you had to transfigure was the material and color. The same with beetles. They are small and similar in size to buttons, so all you need to do is to change the shape. Remember, that doesn't mean that it's easy. You still need the proper wand movement and concentration. Now," Professor Summers flourished his wand, "as I told you in the last lesson, Animate to Inanimate Transfiguration uses the 'three tap' method of wand waving. Make sure you use that or the spell will not work properly. Visualize the outcome."

"The incantation for this transfiguration is 'Praepilatus'. repeat it after me."
Aeon said, and waited until they were finished. "Now, first you must picture a button in your mind. I want all of you to picture a button with the same coloring as your beetle. That will make it a lot easier for you. As I said, we're mostly focusing on the shape. Once you're comfortable, you may attempt to alter other features. After that raise your wand, visualize the beetle turning into the button. When you are ready, tap the beetle three times with your wand, and swish the wand through the air, saying the incantation. Praepilatus!"

At his words, the chunky beetle on his desk flattened into a round, glittering button.

"Now perform the transfiguration on your beetle. I want to see buttons good enough to line my coat with." He beamed. "If you have any problems, feel free to ask. And don't worry - this won't hurt the beetles."
Homework: RP transfiguring beetles into buttons. Feel free to rp myself helping you.

Tristan wasn't in the best mood today, he had a cold and didn't feel like doing anything. Unfortunately, he had Transfiguration today. He needed to focus or he would fail, and he didn't want to fail. He took a seat in the back of the class, leaning his head on his hand as he watched Professor Summers. He was glad he told them it would be their first spell of the year, at least that would be interesting. He took one of the beetles and watched it walk around on his desk for a while while he listened to the Professor explain more. He repeated the spell with him along with the rest of the class, before picturing the button in his mind. He didn't want it to be anything fancy, just any button would do.

He tapped the beetle three times before swishing his wand through the air and saying the incantation. He smiled to himself as the beetle in front of him turned into a wooden button. He had done it, this day was starting to get better. He touched it gently to feel if it really felt like wood, and it did. Weird to think this had been a beetle only seconds before.

Questioning Everything | Honeydukes Assistant | fifth year

[justify]The idea of pranking someone had really taken over Jerara’s mind, he couldn’t wait to actually do it. There were some minor planning details left to figure out but he felt more than certain that between himself and Tristan they could figure it out. Plenty of people before them had figured out how to prank people so why couldn’t he. The young ravenclaw was putting away his books that he had been reading, he had decided to scale back what he had been reading to only focus on the things that he needed to for classes, and for the things he might choose to take as electives. He hadn’t made any real decisions about it yet and he was certainly on the fence about most options. The young boy had no idea what he was going to be doing with his life in the magical world and he didn’t know what he would need for it. The solution his mind was giving him was to do everything but he didn’t think that was all that viable. The teen pulled the books that he would actually need for the classes that day and placed them in his bag, before making sure he had his wand and leaving the room.

Jerara walked int the transfiguration classroom and took a quick seat within the room. Looking to the rpfoessor as the man began his lesson the moment all had arrived. The announcement that they would be working on the transfiguration spells was a good thing, though Jerara loved theory he knew his practical work could use quite a lot of work and he was more than willing to put the time in with spells that were at his level that he could actually do. The ravenclaw nodded as the professor told them what they would be doing, handing out beetles to everyone in the class, he kept his beetle safely as the professor told them how the spell would work, what they were to imagine and the incantation. All of which suited the boy fine, he just wanted to do the spell. He just wanted to get started on it. The boy took his wand and pointed at the creature. Tapping it three times and quickly imagining the beetle becoming a button, "Praepilatus," but nothing happened at all. He took a deep breath and this time went through the steps more carefully, spending more time thinking about the beetle becoming a button and thinking specifically what kind it would become and when he tried the spell again this time he had far greater success. The lesson was wrapped up soon after and the boy packed up his things and left the room.

[justify]Signy had signed up for the rose delivery and she was definitely looking forward to it. The hufflepuff knew that it would be a lot of work, but she was looking forward to the work that she was going to be doing. The girl really thrived off the work she could do during the event. She liked working and sometimes the school work just didn’t fill her time enough. She needed more to do with her time than just the school work, so this seemed like a good place to start. The young blonde was excited by the prospect, and she’d taken to going to the gardens too look at some of the last roses growing in the gardens. She had seen it the last year and she had been too nervous to take part in it, but this time around she wouldn’t being sitting watching it, she would be taking part. Signy was getting ready for the day, she had put a rose in her hair, feeling the preparation and excitement over the coming valentines day. She was excited for the work the day would bring and she was ready to get started, her bag was fully packed and she left the dorm when she was ready.

After the first exceedingly interesting last transfiguration lesson, the hufflepuff was expecting more of it. She took her seat in the class and since she expecting that they would be doing a lesson that was lecture, since she just wanted to know more about the animate to inanimate transfiguration. However, it turned out as the professor began his lecture that they wouldn't be just doing theory but would actually be able to do the type of spell that they had learned some of the theory of in the last lecture. She couldn't help but think it odd that beetles would be used for transfiguring into buttons but she thought it was pretty interesting, and the little bugs were so small, perhaps it made more sense that she was giving it credit for. She listened to the man's instructions and repeated the spell several times. Finally they were able to do it. She kept a good control of her little beetle and just pointed her wand at it. She imagined it changing in her head. Seeing it become something it was not currently. She tapped three times and said, "Praepilatus,", it didn't change, though shook for a brief moment. She did the spell over and succeeded. The hufflepuff smiled to herself and then when the class was over, packed up her things and left.
