Professor Aeon Summers

Canine Animagus ☼ Spell Inventor Magical Menagerie Proprietor Transfiguration Professor 1-4 Brodie's Familiar

To the first years entering the Transfiguration Classroom for the first time, the room appeared devoid of any authoritive presence. No professor waited to greet them by the door, which had instead been left open with a note telling them to enter and take their seats, nor did any await them at the desk located toward the back of the room when they walked in. Instead, a large husky sat in the center of the room, tail wagging as it happily watched the students file in. Once it seemed like everyone was present, the canine got to its feet and leapt toward the professor's desk, it's body shifting in the air to take on a more humanoid form. Professor Summers landed on the edge of his desk, now himself once more. "Transfiguration." He started, looking across the sea of eleven year olds with a bright smile. "Is a very powerful branch of magic capable of changing almost anything from one thing to another, whether it be a quill into a spoon, or a person into a dog. Like you've just seen."

Aeon got to his feet and wandered back to the center of the classroom. "Good morning and welcome to Transfiguration. I am Professor Aeon Summers, your teacher for the next few years. I will be providing you with the tools and abilities that are an absolute necessity for each and everyone one of you as capable witches and wizards. The other subjects pale in comparison to the power transfiguration holds. Your only limits here is your imagination. You will learn everything from manipulating, conjuring and even vanishing the very matter that makes up our physical world." Summers stopped to withdraw his wand, whipping it toward the blackboard behind him. Immediately, the inanimate chalk was imbued with magical life and floated up to start scrawling across the board.

Types of Transfiguration
  • Inanimate to Inanimate
  • Inanimate to Animate
  • Animate to Inanimate
  • Animate to Animate
  • Switching
  • Conjuring
  • Vanishing

"Now, some of you may not be familiar with all of the terms written here, so we'll begin the day with some vocabulary. Take notes if you feel you need to, but it's all very easy to remember. Let's start with inanimate. Inanimate means that something is not living, for example a rock, or a chair. Buildings, furniture, it's all inanimate. Animate on the other hand, is the opposite. Anything living. You, me, your pet goldfish. Even the grass we walk on. Simple, right?" Summers looked across the rows of faces, hoping they were keeping up. It wasn't a difficult concept.

"Now that we have those key terms out of the way I can explain what the combinations on the board mean. Let me know if you need me to slow down at all. It's all just really exciting stuff, even for me. I'd honestly be surprised if any of you got bored by this subject. It's amazing. First of all, we have inanimate to inanimate transfiguration. Simply put, it's changing one thing that isn't living, into another thing that also lacks life. This is easiest to do regarding objects of the same size to begin with, like so." Summers waved his wand once more, transforming a random students seat into a comfortable armchair. Waving his wand again, a vase in the corner of the room became a small teacup. "As you gain more experience, you won't need to worry about retaining the same general size. Inanimate is the best to start off with, as the target does not move and lacks the complexity of living creatures. Which brings us to inanimate to animate."

Another wave of his wand, and the cyan quill sitting in its inkpot on Aeon's desk transformed into a chirping blue bird, its feet coated in black ink. It fluttered its wings a few times before taking flight, circling the room a few times. "As you see here, we are capable of changing something without life into something living. Don't be fooled by it though. The living creature you create lacks a soul and is only alive through you. True life is something we cannot give." As he finished speaking, the bird reverted to a quill and floated slowly back down toward the floor. "That there is simply untransfiguration, something returning to what it once was. But it is indeed possible to turn something such as a bird into a quill through animate to inanimate transfiguration. I'm sure you all know by now that it means turning something alive into something that isn't. Of course you don't kill the targeted creature, but merely halt its life for a short time."

The wizard stepped forward and retrieved the quill from the floor, glancing at the clock overhead as he straightened back up. "And finally, animate to animate changes a living thing into another living thing, such as a guinea pig into a rabbit, or a human into a toad. A favourite among fans of muggle stereotyped witches. Unfortunately, that's all we have time for today. In the following lessons we'll be doing actual wandwork, so look forward to that. If you turn your attention to the board, Mr Chalk has gone ahead and kindly left you all some easy homework to do before our next class. Make sure you write it down and do it for some easy house points. See you guys later." Summers finished, gesturing for them to leave once they were done.
Homework:
Choose one of the types of transfiguration and write about either a real myth or a legend where one thing was transformed into another (or you can make a story up.)

Lost • Insecure • Self-Concerned Young Werewolf

[justify]Transfiguration was one of the school's subjects that Alistair had a particular interest in, a type of magic capable of changing one thing into another in itself was extraordinary, but the young Slytherin had other reasons for wanting to learn as much as he could about it. As a werewolf, he was forced to undertake monthly transformations into something...unnatural, whether he wanted to or not. He thought, or more so hoped, that in mastering the ability to change other things, he could learn how to stop his own transformations. He wanted a normal life again, one where he could sleep soundly on a night of a full moon, and not have to worry about drinking vile potions, or feeling sick all the time. He had to try.

Taking his seat at random, Alistair looked from the front of the classroom to the rest of the students, noting their reactions to the fact that a dog was sitting on the professor's desk. The Slytherin was unsurprised, already knowing who Aeon was, what he could do. The older wizard was Katherine's son, which made him Alistair's...cousin? Yeah, that was it. The professor could turn into a dog and back, whenever he wanted, which was exactly why Alistair thought it possible to achieve the same feat with his lycanthropy. Surely it was much the same?

By the conclusion of the lesson, Alistair had two pages filled with notes he'd taken the time to jot down, underlining sentences such as "only limit: imagination". The lesson itself left him feeling hopeful about the future, though part of him knew that if it was that easy to reverse lycanthropy, they'd have done it already. Then again, new spells and potions were being invented every day. Perhaps he'd be the one to cure his condition once and for all. Who knew?

Chinese | Sophisticated | fourth year

[justify]Lauv Bao was eager to get started on her second semester of school, he hadn’t been overly involved in the school, still adjusting to the differences of this school that she hadn’t entire expected. She was happy with how her school had gone so far, but this was a different semester with a whole new set of professors and she was nervous that these ones unlike the last ones would be the ones that would give her the most amount of trouble, but even during the break she had spent a lot of time sitting learning more english, improving her listening and writing skills, she knew that she was doing pretty good now, but she wanted to do well and have it never be down to her language skills that brought down her grades. Her grades from the last semester had been rather good, she could admit, but she was rather eager to just get started, if she got good grades from the first day that would be the best thing for her. With that, the girl was getting ready for the day, brushing down her clothes, tying up her hair and making sure she had everything she needed in her bag. When the girl was finally ready she left for the class, eager to just get started.

Bao was nervous about transfiguration, she hoped that she would be good at it, but she felt nervous. The slytherin walked into the room and took a seat within the room. She noted the dog sitting in the centre of the room and smiled towards it. Wondering if the dog would be something they'd transfigure when they were able to do advanced spells. However, the husky turned out to be the professor, and Bao was very impressed with that sort of magic, it was probably one of the more impressive introductions to a class and its professor that she had seen so far. The girl leaned forward in her seat and listened to the man introduce himself and the study of transfiguration. Bao watched as the different sorts of transfiguration spells appeared on the blackboard, she wrote them down as the professor continued his lecture, talking about the terms listed. Which Bao found useful, it helped put some context into words that though she knew wasn't overly familiar with. Clearly as the professor spoke and demonstrated the spells, Bao realised just the scale and impressiveness of transfiguration and was rather glad she had this class, all hints of prior nervousness just gone. She took a note of the homework as it was told to them and then left the room. Happy with how it had gone.

gentle; alternate keeper

[justify]Marcos had not achieved as highly as he had wanted to in the first semester of his hogwarts life, it had been difficult for him, he had been so distracted by just about anything that classes had really been the last thing on his mind, but right now he was just quite happy, he had a second semester in which to make small improvements and show that he could be smart like his siblings, not as smart, but a little smarter. Just show that he wasn’t just all about fun and sports and adventures. The boy was rather eager for the semester too, there was no real reason why, just that he’d had such a great first semester that anything that repeated it to him was great. If he could do a little better in class that would be great, if he could have a little more fun that would be amazing, he was just looking for all the ways in which he could have more fun. The boy was getting ready for the day of lessons, he was also making sure that he’d have all his work in time to be able to go the quidditch game at the weekend. With that the gryffindor was ready for the day, he gathered up his things and then left the dorm for the class.

Marcos walked into the transfiguration classroom and took a seat within the room. He was curious about what this class would be like, he'd heard some good things about what they would learn, so he wanted to know what the class itself would be like. He looked to the front ignoring the husky at the centre of the room, because it was surely something to do with the class, and was very impressed, that it was actually the professor. Marcos had heard of that sort of magic but he'd never actually seen it in practice until this very moment. It was incredible. He knew they wouldn't be learning that specifically, it was more advanced magic than most of them would ever encounter. He looked to the professor as the man began the bulk of the lesson, explaining to them who he was, and what the class would be like. The different branches of transfiguration and what some of them actually meant, It was so interesting to him. He was looking forward to what he might be learning in this class, especially because of the fact they might just be doing a lot of spell work. He took of the homework before leaving the class.
