Defence Against the Dark Arts,5,5The semester was so close to the end and Alaric was a little sad about the fact that soon he would be leaving Hogwarts and going back to the real world. The man hadn't decided what he would do or indeed where he would go next. Putting his future to the back of his mind, Alaric waved his hand to open the doors and allow the fifth years to enter the classroom. Once they were all sat down Alaric got to his feet to begin the lesson. "Good news, this class will be short, your OWLs are close and you need all the time I can give you to study for them," After a brief pause to allow the students reactions to his little news Alaric continued. "Today, we are discussing the Flagrante Curse," By some of the reactions on the students faces, the professor could tell who was familiar with the curse and who was not. "The curse is known to burn whomever touches the object that it is cast on. This curse has been known to occasionally be used on valuable items in Gringotts vaults. This is likely one of the few curses we've studied that a simple 'finite' will not reverse, after all the spell wouldn't be a very good security measure if any old wizard could reverse it," Alaric stopped and listened to the scratching of quills as the students finished taking their notes. "That's all for today, write me an essay on this curse for homework, and be sure to study, class dismissed," Alaric raised his wand and opened the classroom door. |

Charlotte did not particularly enjoy her last Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson but showed up to the next one nonetheless. She knew that she had to try to concentrate this lesson so she could get as much information down as possible for the upcoming OWLs, despite how much she was dreading them. They were still discussing curses this lesson, but this curse in particular was called the Flagrante Curse which burnt whoever touched the object it was cast on. Charlotte made sure to write this down as she continued to listen, and when she left the classroom at the end of the lesson, she was much more satisfied with her notes and was more than ready for the year to be over. |

Maddie walked into the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom and took her usual seat, next to her best friend Charlotte near the back of the room. She took out her writing things as she waited for Professor Snyder to introduce the lesson. She made extensive notes on the 'flagrante curse' a curse that sounded horrible to Maddie and she hoped that she would never have to come across it. She wrote down the homework and packed away her things and left the classroom with Charlotte. |

Tholomyes was not looking forward to the end of the semester, he was feeling so tired, he really needed to do more and get a few more friends, really needed to try that. He was just growing so bored of having so few and yet was doing very little to actually fix it, he wasn’t finding people he could be friends with, he wasn’t seeking anything out, he was just sitting around admittedly working on his art but it wasn't like he was actually managing anything with it. He felt that he was going round and round in circles. The teen just had to figure something out soon, nothing provided him with any hope anymore, it was just all so pointless really, but he kept trying, he knew it wouldn’t be worth but it was worth trying. However, today he didn’t really have to do that, he had to just focus on his classes and upcoming exams he had for them. This was the important year and he’d be damned if he didn’t do well, if he didn’t have something to show of this new world. With that thought, the boy gathered the last of his belongings for the day and left for the class. Tholomyes took a seat in the room, looking up at the man who was teaching them. He took out his parchment and writing utensils. The boy was fairly glad that he wouldn't have to be listening long, but was curious what spell they would be covering and not casting this week. The flagrante curse sounded pretty neat, it could be placed on things in the bank but also he couldn't help but think that it would also help protect art galleries, the fact it could be reversed with a simple finite was a bit of an issue, but surely some would manage it. The teen took notes about the curse, it was pretty interesting. The lecture like the professor had promised was blessedly short, and he was able to just jot down the homework and then pack up. Cairo was relieved to learn that his defence against the dark arts lesson that day would be short. He quickly say down in his usual seat, retrieved his notebook, and began taking notes. The flagrante curse was interesting, and definitely sounded useful to cast on valuable objects. Especially if it was used somewhere like gringotts. Cairo continued writing down what the professor was saying, and attempted to make a mental note to read up on the flagrante curse whenever he had a spare moment, so he could learn more about it. Cairo wrote down the homework as it was assigned, and then left the classroom as the lesson was dismissed. He spent the rest of his day in the library, reading up on what he had learned in defence against the dark arts that semester. |

Rudolf wasn't really enjoying Defence Against the Dark Arts that term, but it was better than Transfiguration, where they'd been casting the same spell for weeks on end. Of course, they didn't get to cast many of the spells they learned about with Professor Snyder, but at least they were interesting. The Gryffindor readied his parchment and took some notes on the Flagrante Curse, a very dark sounding spell that Rudolf hoped he never encountered. When he thought he'd written enough down, he packed up and left. |
