Transfiguration,5,5 Today's class should be fun. As the students entered the room, Professor Wolf grinned to see them shocked by the cacophony which greeted them. This week, each desk was occupied by a crate containing three ducks. "Hello fifth years!" He was excited about this one, it would be their final class on new creatures, and he found it quite funny that the final creatures were ducks. "Today, you will be vanishing, ducks." The mix of colours was lovely, the brown, plain colour of the female ducks and the brilliant green and purples of the male. "Now, you've done a fair bit of vanishing at this point, so this shouldn't be too difficult, but bear in mind that ducks are much larger than anything you've vanished before, and, can fly." If any of them had particular difficulty with their bird, he would help them, but for the moment he trusted their competence. "Be gentle when removing them from the crate, they won't like it if you ruffle their feathers," chuckling at his own joke, he continued "Remember; the three tap method, and Evanesco. Once you have vanished all three of the ducks in your crate, you may go." Sitting behind his desk, Josef took quite some enjoyment watching the teenagers antics with these animals. Charlotte was eager for her next Transfiguration lesson. She figured she had slowly got the hang of making mice vanish and was more than ready to learn something new. She entered the classroom and sat in her usual seat as she waited for the lesson to begin. Sure enough, they were going to be vanishing ducks. Charlotte thought they looked adorable sitting in the crate and was exited to get her hands on one. When she did, she pet the duck before taking out her wand and tapped three times on it before saying the incantation. "Evanesco." It took a couple of tries but eventually the duck disappeared and Charlotte beamed before making the other two ducks in the crate disappear too. When the lesson ended, Charlotte thanked the professor before heading straight to her next class. |

Tholomyes was not looking forward to the end of the semester, he was feeling so tired, he really needed to do more and get a few more friends, really needed to try that. He was just growing so bored of having so few and yet was doing very little to actually fix it, he wasn’t finding people he could be friends with, he wasn’t seeking anything out, he was just sitting around admittedly working on his art but it wasn't like he was actually managing anything with it. He felt that he was going round and round in circles. The teen just had to figure something out soon, nothing provided him with any hope anymore, it was just all so pointless really, but he kept trying, he knew it wouldn’t be worth but it was worth trying. However, today he didn’t really have to do that, he had to just focus on his classes and upcoming exams he had for them. This was the important year and he’d be damned if he didn’t do well, if he didn’t have something to show of this new world. With that thought, the boy gathered the last of his belongings for the day and left for the class. Tholomyes was pretty eager to just get started on the lesson as soon as he arrived, he enjoyed making things disappear, he went between setting on fire the pieces he didn't like, and just making them vanish into nothingness. It was something that he liked a lot, hugely practical, but everything he vanished was small and he wanted to get started on larger objects. So, when the professor in the transfiguration classroom told them they'd be doing it on ducks, he couldn't help the little smile that graced his lips. He got up from where he was sitting and got a duck out of the crate of them. He went back to his desk and placed the duck down. He smiled a little at it before pointing his wand at it, tapping three times and saying, "Evanesco," the spell appeared to begin to work, but didn't fully manage it. He sighed heavily but tried again, and this time the spell worked. Clearly the amount of practice that he was putting in each work was paying off. He pulled out the next duck and again took two tries to vanish it, but by the third he managed it on the first go. The boy, proud of himself for once, left the room feeling like he might not completely bomb the upcoming exams. |

Rudolf nearly groaned when he stepped into the Transfiguration classroom that day. Another lesson on vanishing? The Gryffindor didn't really understand why larger objects were supposed to be so much harder to vanish than small ones, and he didn't really care. They'd spent weeks on this one spell, now, and he just wanted to move on. Reluctantly he took a duck from the crate, taking care not to ruffle its feathers as Professor Wolf had told them. It honked at him indignantly as he set it down on his desk. "Me too, duck. Me too," he said, withdrawing his wand. Using the three-tap method he cast Evanesco on the bird, managing to vanish it after only two attempts. Fairly proud with himself, he packed up and left. |

Unlike Rudolf, Reuben liked repetition: it helped information stick. He smiled at the ducks in his crate, reminded of the ducks they had back home. Home. They'd be home, soon, for the Christmas holidays. Maybe then Rudolf would feel better. Reuben still wasn't sure what was even bothering his brother, but he hoped he would come forward and speak up about it soon. Even if Reuben was to blame for something, at least then he could apologise for it. Settling down, Reuben picked up a duck and set it down on the desk in front of him. An animal of this size was bound to be much, much more difficult to vanish, which made the Hufflepuff's courage falter briefly. He'd had to cast the spell several times last week to get the mouse to disappear - how many times would he have to cast it on a duck? But his worries were in vain, for he vanished the duck on his first try. He looked at Rudolf, who needed two attempts, and grinned smugly, before remembering his brother was upset about something and quickly wiping it off. |

Like Rudolf, James was bored of the vanishing spell so when he entered the classroom and found out they would be having another lesson practicing the spell, his face fell in disappointment. With his mood significantly more sour, James took his seat and listened to Professor Wolfe as he told them what they would be doing during the lesson. After getting the instructions James went to the desk and grabbed a duck. It struggled in his hand all the way back to his desk where he set it down. "Quit struggling," James grumbled as he took out his wand. He looked at the duck on his desk and wondered briefly why some of his classmates were struggling to cast a spell on one, they were dirty little things. "Hold still so I can get rid of you," James looked over at Rudolf and Reuben, he knew his attitude towards animals such as the duck on his desk was a sore subject for the twins, but he didn't like farm animals. After successfully vanishing the duck James was happy to be finishing up the lesson. He put away his wand and once Professor Wolfe gave them the nod he made his way out of the classroom, leaving Rudolf with his brother. |
