HS Ravenclaw Graduate | Curse Breaker

Defence Against the Dark Arts,5,4Alaric was running a little later than usual so when he entered the classroom for the latest lesson with his fifth years they were already in their seats. He quickly scanned the room to see if anyone was missing before he closed the doors. "Good morning, today we will be discussing two curses, and why they are curses, not simply jinxes, though there a bit of debate around the current classification," The chalk behind him tapped against the board as it wrote what he said.

"You should all remember the Jelly-Legs jinx from your second years, I want you to think about that a moment before you consider the two new curses, Jelly-Fingers curse and the Sponge-Knees curse, I'm you can figure out the effects of the curses yourself, turning the victims fingers to jelly, and knees to sponge respectively," Alaric decided he would see how opinionated the class were and if any were willing to debate the curses being named as such. "Now, why are these two curses be considered more of a curse than a jinx wheras the Jelly-Legs Jinx is not considered a curse at all?" Alaric noticed that many students rose their hands. The professor picked out a few to share their ideas.

"Good to see you all have ideas about this, however it is all speculation, I myself find it odd that these two curses are named as such while sharing similar effects to jinxes, such decisions are a mystery to me," Alaric shrugged his shoulders. "I think that's enough for today, your homework is simply to study for your OWLs, they are coming up fast," Alaric waved his wand to open the doors and allowed the students to leave.

Twinning | Former Slytherin & Prefect | Class of 2046 | Charlotte ❤️

It was the fourth Defence lesson and Dan arrived to the classroom early, wanting to make a good impression with his professor as he felt that he was late at every other lesson this semester. He took his seat when he got there only noticing the missing presence after a few minutes, smiling at Professor Snyder in greeting when he finally appeared in front of the class. His books were out as the Slytherin Prefect wanted to be ready for today's lesson. He sighed, not liking the fact that they had to learn about curses in detail but knowing how useful it was to know a lot about them. He resisted the urge to roll his eyes at the mention of the Jelly-Legs jinx, where his sister used to try it on him all the time just to annoy him. He barely felt the small smile on his face as Professor Snyder explained the difference between two other "curses". Daniel remained quiet, not really in the mood to raise his hand and put all the attention on himself - a little unusual for him actually - and let other people share their ideas. His thoughts were far from OWLs when the professor mentioned them. After being dismissed, the fifth year packed up and left the classroom, heading to the common room.

Charlotte entered the Defence Against the Dark Arts Classroom and took her usual seat as she waited for the lesson to begin. Unfortunately, they were going to have to sit through a lecture, and Charlotte sighed before she took out her writing equipment and tried her best to take notes. She would have much preferred to be learning a new spell and so the words that were coming out of the professor's mouth went straight over her head as he spoke. When the lesson ended, Charlotte left the classroom with little to no notes about any of the curses the professor spoke about, but thanked him nonetheless before leaving.

Maddie settled down into her usual seat and got out her things ready to take notes on the chosen curse of the day. She made notes on the two 'curses'; the jelly fingers curse and the sponge knees curse. They sounded pretty interesting and she decided that she would head to the library to learn more about them. Once the lesson was over she packed away her things and left the classroom.

struggling artiste | class of 2046, former head boy

Theo had never liked halloween, so he wasn’t particularly looking forward to the celebration, he always tried to make an effort with an outfit and by going but this year the boy wasn’t sure that he would attend the celebration, after all he felt empty without the possibility of Emma there, though it had been over a year without her, and he really needed to get himself new friends, it just was that he wanted to be there for her during this difficult time given the death of her brother, but also because her smile had been one of the most incredible that Tholomyes had ever seen. He was getting ready for the day, with vague thoughts towards the halloween celebration, and was looking forward to at least, the dorm room being quiet for the night, and that he might have the opportunity to just do a bit of painting without the prying eyes of his dorm mates. The teen was tired of having to find somewhere else to go whenever he wanted to draw. The boy put his books into his bag, pinned the prefect badge to his chest and then left the dorm heading straight to the classroom.

Tholomyes walked into the defence against classroom and took his seat within the room, staring forward at the professor who stood before them. He had his notes out and nodded as the made got started, they were doing a little revision it seemed. He nodded his head at the question, if he remembered the spells. He did, they weren't things he would think that fun. But, that was likely just the difference between him and others, Theo was no prankster after all. He listened to the points given by his peers in the class, not having a position on it at all. He wasn't sure why the professor needed their opinion on it, or how that would help them for the exams, but perhaps this was more for the future and less just for the class and the exam. it made sense that the class would go beyond just practical spells but actually make them think about the spells they were casting. With that the lesson was over and Tholomyes packed up his things and left the room.

Rome's twin • Introverted

Cairo had already arrived to the classroom, and sat comfortably in his seat by the time the professor arrived. He raised an eyebrow, immediately beginning to judge the temporary professor's lateness. This didn't change as the lesson was introduced and a discussion on the Jelly-Fingers curse and the Sponge-Knees curse ensued. Cairo did not care for the relevance of a spell's classification, and instead only saw spells as a means to an end. He would use either of them if he needed to and if he could cast them, regardless if they were a curse or a jinx. Though despite his indifference to the spells classifications, he did enjoy being part of an in depth discussion about the spells, and managed to take notes on things he did not know about them as the class continued. By the time the class was over, Cairo felt confidnent that his knowledge had been expanded. He then promptly left the room, and headed to the library to catch up on his other subjects.

Rudolf sighed as he entered the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom and sat down. He didn't feel like talking to anybody these days - not even James, who he could talk to about anything. Listening was a chore, too, as he discovered quickly when Professor Snyder began to talk about various curses or jinxes or something. The Gryffindor took a few half-hearted notes, hoping nobody would notice he wasn't as enthusiastic as usual, and then packed his things away to leave.

Reuben knew something was up with his brother - it was hard not to notice - but he wasn't sure whether pressing him about it would do any good. It was difficult to judge when Rudolf wanted to talk and when he wanted to left alone, and Reuben wasn't particularly good at it. Biting his lip, he took his seat next to Matthew and tried not to think too much about it, taking notes on the day's subject and hoping all the information would stay in long enough for him to pass his exams. He was beginning to regret thinking he wanted to be an Auror. It was harder work than he'd thought.
