Jon felt at ease for that day's field trip with the fifth years. He stepped forward from leaning on his desk as the class filed in. "You won't be sitting for long, because today's lesson will involve a field trip to a muggle movie theater!" He exclaimed. "You have a few minutes to go and change if you're not already in muggle clothing." When a couple of students left the room, he gave the class an opportunity to talk among themselves until they returned and the lesson could finally begin. Jonathon waved his hand towards the bottle sitting on his desk. "We will travel using this port key and once we get to the movie theater, I'll give each of you some money to purchase your ticket for Snow White and the Huntsman. We will watch the film together as a class, and when the film is over we will use the same portkey to return to the castle. This lesson almost sounds too easy, doesn't it?" He asked, chuckling quietly. "The point of the lesson is to focus on how differently the film we're seeing tells the Snow White story to the Walt Disney version you should have watched for homework after our last lesson. But of course, you're welcome to have fun!" He said, before mentioning a brief list of rules for the excursion as he stepped to the back of his desk, gesturing for the students to gather around when he had finished speaking. "Everyone gather round!" The class was transported to an alleyway in part of a muggle city. Jonathon counted each of the students' heads to make sure they all arrived safely when he gathered his own bearings, leading the class around the corner and into the movie theater when he was sure everyone arrived safe and sound. He handed each student their own money to purchase their tickets and bought one for himself so he could keep an eye on the students during the movie. He kept a close eye on the class until the end credits flicked on the screen, and when the class was ready to leave he led them from the theater and back into the alleyway where they used the portkey to return to the castle. Jonathon dismissed the class without any homework when they returned, saying they at least needed to attempt to think about the similarities and differences between each telling of the Snow White fairy tale. As per usual, Jon remained at the front of the room as everyone filed out to answer any questions if need be. Homework: Roleplay the lesson!Muggle Studies,5,5 |

Amy entered the muggle studies classroom and sat down, smiling at Professor Phillips in greeting. She grinned immediately when he announced what they were to do that lesson, she never went to muggle movies with her family because her parents weren't too fond of movie theatres but her and Dan always appreciated every time they were able to visit. It was a treat for the twins. She had forgotten to put on her house robes that morning but they weren't even necessary. She waited for the rest of her classmates to change and soon the class was ready to go. She only wished her brother was with her, it was a little unfair he wouldn't get to go but not taking Muggle Studies this semester has been his choice. Not that she blamed him, but the class was great. Amy made a face when Professor Phillips mentioned the portkey, she'd never been fond of using one. She had forgotten about the homework from last lesson, not that it mattered much because she saw the film when she was younger. They portkeyed to the movies, where the hufflepuff stared at the screen most of the time because this was definitely not what she was expecting. She had to admit, this version of Snow White was impressive to the sixteen year old. She smiled slightly when they were done and they returned to the castle, where Amy grabbed her bag and headed to the grounds where her brother was waiting for her. |

Matthew remembered what the professor had told the class about the trip to the muggle movie theater, and he had brought his camera with him. He didn't know if he would get any time to himself, but he hoped to snap a picture of the building to show Leah in his next letter. Or perhaps over the holidays, if he could meet with her then. The thought made his stomach tingle oddly. He was familiar with the portkey but he didn't really like traveling that way. Still, he had to and he didn't complain. He listened to the professor's explanation, glad he had done the homework and watched the animated movie. He had enjoyed it quite a lot, not caring that it was supposed to be for children. When they arrived Matthew took his picture quickly and then looked around in amazement. He bought his ticket and followed the class inside. He watched the movie with wide eyes, it was definitely a lot different from the animated version. Parts of the story were completely changed, but he had to admit he liked this one a little bit better. As they took the portkey back, he discussed the differences in the movies with one of his classmates. The lesson was over when they arrived, and he filed out with the rest of his classmates, glad to have had this experience. |
