[justify]Jon always enjoyed teaching his fifth year students and that day was no exception. It was one of his favourite lessons of the cirriculum where the students were allowed to watch a famous film and draw their own conclusions about it. It would even be the first time some of the students were watching a film and that alone made the lesson worthwhile. Jon waited at the front of the room until everyone in the class arrived, smiling after each person had taken their seats. "Good afternoon everyone! Today's lesson is on famous films." Turning back to his desk, Jonathon picked up a replica of a vintage movie poster for the Disney film Snow white and the seven dwarfs and hung it on the blackboard. "This poster originally advertized Walt Disney's feature film Snow White and the Seven dwarfs, which was the first animated feature film ever made." He smiled as he spoke, pointing to the movie's title on the poster before pointing to the films opening date written along the bottom. "The poster says the film was released in 1937, which means it premiered over one hundred years ago! Isn't that crazy?" Jonathon queried, stepping back towards his desk so he could pick up another replica of a vintage movie poster and place it on top of the Disney poster on the board before he continued speaking. "This next poster was made to advertise the godfather, released in 1972. It is one of the most popular films to date." Jon exclaimed as he clapped his hands together. "As I have mentioned in previous classes, film making has been around for many many years. Some of the other most popular films to date are Casablanca from 1942, and Schindler's list from 1993. Now I'm going to mention, that these three films have pretty grown-up themes. They have a lot of violence, gore, and foul language. I understand that you're all old enough to know foul language and watch violence, but I'm still going to reccomend that if you want to watch these these films outside of class, you should do so with your parent's permission." He said, making sure the class understood the nature of the films. Despite how popular the films were, their adult themes were very prominent. He didn't want to get in trouble for telling students to watch them without guidance. "But, one film you don't need to ask your parents permission to watch, is Snow White. It's a children's movie so it's appropriate for all ages." He added as an afterthought, before continuing the lesson and assigning the students' homework. The professor clapped his hands together a second time to signify the end of the lesson. "Your homework for this week, is to watch Disney's Snow White. In order to watch it, you will need to set aside time in the classroom and also get the film from the library." He stated. "This week's homework is particularly important because next week is our field trip to a movie theater. We're going to watch a live-action version of the Snow White story, so I would like you to watch both films and be able to make a comparison." Jonathon then dismissed the class, now that he had mentioned the homework. "That's all for today, see you guys next week!" He said, waiting at the front of the class as each student packed their belongings and left. Maddie skipped into the Muggle Studies classroom and sat next to her Hufflepuff friend, Matthew. She got out her writing things and waited for the Professor to introduce the lesson. She was excited to learn that they would be studying famous films and the Professor chose Snow White and the Seven Dwarves to teach them about. The Professor introduced the homework for that week and it was one that Maddie didn't actually mind doing as it was just watching a film, something that she had a lot of practise doing back at home. She packed away her things and set off for the library immediately to watch Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, she had a couple of hours to kill before her next class. When the movie was over she found herself whistling along to the 'whistle while you work' tune all the way to her next lesson, she thoroughly enjoyed the movie and couldn't wait for the next lesson when they could watch another at an actual movie theatre. |

Matthew was a little early to Muggle Studies today, he smiled at Madeline who sat down next to him. It seemed like it was another day for taking notes, so he took out his paper and pen. Famous films was an interesting subject to him, he was curious what made these films famous in the first place. The fact that Snow White and the Seven Dwarves was the very first animated feature film ever made said a lot, and he really wanted to see it. He didn't care that it was for children, he was curious how it looked. Animated movies were a bit further away from his point of view as a photographer, but he was still very curious about them. He was excited to watch the movie for his homework, and went to the library straight after class. |
