Sloane was sitting on her desk as the students arrived to her class. Once more, she had supplied the students with pads of paper, pens and pencils. On an extra desk Sloane had also provided a few other items. There was a stapler, paperclips, binder clips and a variety of other muggle supplies on display for the students to play with. She was a little uncomfortable with the stapler being used, because some students did like to staple themselves, or others. However, she hoped that this would not be the case with this class. Nonetheless, the class should be rather entertaining to watch because a few, or most, have never seen these items before. In the corner of the room Sloane managed to conjure a high school locker to show to the students as well. Once everyone had arrived and taken their seats, Sloane stood up and greeted them, "Welcome back. I hope you are all ready to learn about the muggle school life. From what I've seen, it is extremely different from Hogwarts. Someone, anyone, please give me some ideas on what might be different, other than the lack of magic?" Sloane listened to the responses and nodded. "Indeed. The biggest difference is that the majority of muggle schools are not ones where the students live. There are some that allow students to reside in them however. Schools will vary by country, but for example, we will look at those in New Zealand. Students will return home each night, and won't live at the school. During the time they are at school, personal items and books will be held in a school locker or sometimes in a store room." Sloane walked over to the locker in the corner and opened it. Inside were a few coat hooks on each side, a shelf at the top and bottom. It was completely empty. "Students will hang their coats and bags here on the hooks. They also keep books, notebooks and things on the shelves. Depending upon the school regulations, they will either take all their books with them to their classes or will return to the locker to change books between classes. Also, students will often decorate the door with pictures of friends, family many other things." Sloane went to the desk with all the school supplies on it. "And all of these are some of the typical muggle supplies that the students will use. You already know about pens, pencils and paper. But muggle students also use folders or binders to keep their papers in. I will allow you to look at them and choose which one you would prefer to use for your own papers." She gave the class a smile and motioned toward the items as she continued to lecture, "This is a stapler. It is used for binding multiple pieces of paper together, like so." She demonstrated stapling two pieces of paper together. "Paperclips are also used to secure papers together but this is more of a temporary use than that of a staple." "Now, use the rest of the time remaining at the end of class to examine the supplies on the desk as well as the locker, I want to explain a typical course of study in muggle schools. For my example, I will be using New Zealand because of the simple fact that we are here right now. Things are more than likely diverse in other countries. Now, there are three types of schools: Primary School, Junior High-school and Senior High-school. Primary is for the youngest students and has grades Kindergarten through fifth or sixth, sometimes seventh. Kindergarten is for kids who are just entering school and are about five years old. Most students your age are in the eighth grade, and that would put you in Junior High School. Junior High is grades Seventh, Eight, Ninth and tenth or the equivalent of second through sixth year here. There are many diversities among the school districts in the middle grades. There is one area I know that merges both Primary and Junior High into one school. Senior High wraps up the grades. Students are typically around 16 to 18 years old. Muggle children are not considered adults until they hit 18 years old, and more than likely will not graduate until they are around eighteen or nineteen, they sometimes are only seventeen however." "The courses in a traditional Muggle school are different than in a magical community school. Students take core courses in mathematics, language arts, reading, science and history. There are other electives such as computers, music, home economics, art, industrial technologies, foreign languages, and physical education or gym." Sloane sighed and she chuckled softly. Today was a long day, more or less nothing but a long lecture. "What I would like you to do for your homework tonight is look through the textbooks I have on my shelf over here." She motioned toward the large bookshelf in the room. "Pick one of the muggle courses and write me an essay on your impressions of the coursework included and compare this course to a course you have taken here at Hogwarts. Easy example, compare Math with Arithmancy or History with History of Magic. I would like a few extra sentences on your reaction of the muggle school supplies and whether you are choosing a folder or a binder for your work. And you will be using your muggle school supplies for this course or receive a T." Sloane added before dismissing the class, "Oh, and one more thing. Next week, come dressed in your muggle attire. No uniforms or school robes. You can bring them if you have another class right after this, but I wouldn't mind seeing how you picture muggles dressing. This is important, even if you all have a lot of experience with this. Many members of the magical community have no idea how to blend in. I can name a certain Professor here at the school who can't." Sloane chuckled once more. "The goal of this class is not just to ensure you understand that muggles are people too, but also how to blend into their society as you would need to in the future. And if you want to take a textbook, just ask me first." Homework: RP your impressions with the muggle school supplies and whether you are choosing to use a binder or a folder. You will be provided with the item in your next class. Also do the assignment assigned. I do not expect a huge essay, for a paragraph or two will suffice. Textbooks of every subject you can think of is provided. Just be creative!Muggle Studies,3,2 |

Evelyn was having a great morning with the thought she would have Muggle Studies again today. She hoped she made a impression on the Professor last time and was curious about the next lesson. As she entered the classroom she greeted Professor Stark and found her spot on the front. The blonde made sure she had parchment for notes, because she had a feeling there would be lecture today that would be important to have on paper. And when the lesson began the blonde listened very carefully to the Professor. Muggle school life, that would be something interesting too, what would they wear there? Evelyn didn't really knew much yet about the difference other than that muggles didn't learned magic ofcourse so she listend as others responded. Evelyn was wondering if the class would be interesting for muggleborns, since they already knew a lot. But to easily get a good grade for something could be a motivation she guessed. As Evelyn saw how Stark opened something called a locker she tried to look at how much space it had. She couldn't imagine what you all needed to bring everyday. Evelyn was glad to sleep at school, although she preffered a bedroom without Zenia and even better one for herself only. But the idea of a locker sounded nice and a way to show yourself since the muggles were decorating the lockers sometimes. As the blonde writed a lot of information down and looked what Professor Stark was talking about she felt her hand hurting. As the lecture part was over and Stark said they could leave their uniform and put on their own clothes Evelyn was very happy. She could show her sense of Fashion and liked her own clothes more than those robes of Gryffindor. The blonde decided to work on her assignment after class and took al of her stuff back in her bag and left the room after saying goodbye to Professor Stark. |

Flavio found learning about muggles extremely interesting, and despite how much the lessons dragged on, he was excited to go to his next muggle studies lesson and learn more about the muggle world. He sat down near the front of the class after arriving and focused his attention entirely on professor stark, noting what she was saying in his mind. He watched in slight awe as she introduced each of the different items of stationery, surprised by the thing she described as a 'stapler' because putting a piece of metal into paper to keep it together with anything other than a spell was astounding to him. When allowed, Flavio approached the table of stationery, picking up the stapler and pulling the top off of it to get a look on the inside. He wanted to figure out how the stapler worked; though was disappointed when he couldn't figure it out. The rest of the lesson was self-explanatory enough for Flavio to understand. He played around with the different pens and pencils available, testing them out on the paper to see how they worked. He took a particular liking to one of the pens listed as a 'fountain pen' and loved the way it made his name look neat and polished on the page. Soon enough Flavio's attention wavered to the professor introducing the homework. He walked to where the textbooks were kept and flicked through the pages, still in the process of thinking which subject he would write about when the lesson was dismissed. He noted that he needed to wear muggle clothing for his next lesson as he left the room, and continued wondering what muggle subject he would write about since there were so many for him to choose from.
