[justify]Jonathon was ready to return to teaching after a week's absence, and wanted nothing more to apologize to his fifth year students after they arrived to the classroom that day. The previous week was the first time he was supposed to be teaching that specific year of students, and he was disappointed in himself for not being there to make the best first impression. "Good morning class, my name is Professor Phillips, but you're welcome to call me Jon. Before I begin the lesson, I would like to apologize for my absence last week. I was very sick and couldn't make it, though I am very glad to be back now, and to finally meet all of you." He said, before explaining the subject material of the lesson. "Today's lesson will be a brief introduction to muggle cinema. You will learn how movies, or films are made, as well as some of the most basic knowledge of how the world of muggle film works." Jonathon stepped to one side, revealing the movie camera on his desk before he turned towards the blackboard that held the student's notes.
Basics of Muggle Cinema

Motion pictures, or films, can be dated back as far as the 1890's.

These films did not contain sound until 1927.

The first noteworthy film with sound was titled "The Jazz Singer".

Films are watched in movie theaters, also known as cinemas.

Films are made using analog film or digital video cameras

The professor waited for a few minutes so the class had the opportunity to copy the notes. He continued speaking when he noticed many of the students had finished writing, so he could elaborate on how films were made. "Films, or movies, whatever you would like to call them, are recorded on these things known as Cameras. They are similar to our magical cameras, though they are also very different because of the technology that was put into building them." Jon returned the classes attention to the camera on his desk. "This is a film camera, and it is obviously one of the many kinds of cameras that can be used for creating a film. Though it is much smaller and not as advanced as the cameras currently being used to record films, it is still an example that I hope will help everyone understand how films are made." He picked up the camera and handed it to one of the students in the front row. "I would like you to pass this around so everyone can get a closer look." He smiled as he remained at the front of the class, choosing to dismiss the lesson once the camera had been returned to his desk.

"That's all for today everyone!" Jon exclaimed as the sound of parchment and quills being packed away and students shuffling out of the room filled the air. "Oh, and before I forget, your homework is to tell me the name of a famous film, and to explain to me what has made the film famous!" He called as the students filed out of the room.

Homework: Name a famous film and explain why it is considered to be famous.

Matthew was glad to see that the normal professor for this subject was teaching this lesson, it seemed like he had been sick last time and Matthew was glad to meet him now. He seemed very friendly. He had been eager to get back to this class, the world of muggle cinema was something he was happy to learn more about. He wanted to understand how they were made, so he took careful note. He grinned at the sight of the muggle camera, and then copied the notes quickly.

The camera was handed around and when Matthew got it, he looked at it from all angles, his face alight. It was similar to his own camera, but different in so many small ways. It was definitely very interesting, and he almost felt sad to pass it on. At the end of the class, he copied down the homework and said goodbye to the professor before leaving the classroom.

Muggle Studies Lesson 2

A famous movie in muggle cinema is called "Titanic" and it was made in 1997. It's very famous as it's one of the most watched movies of all time in the muggle world. It's based on a story of a real life tragedy, something that spoke to people at the time and still does. It has won many awards, and was one of the biggest budgeted movies at all times. It was also well liked for using new and innovative technology at the time, making movies in a way that the muggles weren't used to at the time.

Maddie walked into the Muggle Studies classroom and was pleased to see that their new Professor was standing there ready to start the lesson. She took a seat next to her new friend, Matthew and waited for the rest of the class to turn up. She took out her writing equipment and started to make notes on Muggle Cinema, she knew a lot of it already but it was interesting to see it from a magical point of view and to see her classmates look really confused. She took the camera from Matthew and had a look at it and then passed it to the person next to her. The lesson soon came to an end and she packed her things away and left the Muggle Studies classroom.
