Professor Orbon was running behind, nearly enough to make him have to call upon the substitute Professor to fill in for him but luckily he made his way to the classroom because today was meant to be quite the exciting day ahead of them with a trip to the most elusive of places thus far. The Bermuda Triangle. Knowing that it would be very wet where they were, he had placed rain jackets on each of his students desks hastily and fastened one on himself as he starred at the class who was already there. "Sorry for my tardiness class. Please put these on, you'll need them." He smiled and waited before he, once more, presented them with a port key to touch but just before he said, "We're going to the Atlantic Ocean, so come along now." With a touch of the port key they had all landed on an oversized platform, floating above the water made of sturdy glass and silver railings for them to hold onto and to keep them all in tow. He had yet to have an injury in his class so far and hardly wished to start. Not needing to explain the magic because they were all old enough to understand it, he decided to begin his lecture. Without a piece of land in sight, Eduardo announced excitedly, "We're in the Bermuda Triangle." He paused to allow for a titter of whispers as there always was about this place between no-majs and wizards alike. "A century ago, or so, magical astronomers had worked out that the pull of the moon ruled the tides of the sea. One astronomer by the name of John Bingledack became obsessed with the this and believed that if he could harness the energy, he would become the most powerful wizard that the world had ever seen." He hoped that his students were paying enough attention to this instead of looking at the crashing waves below them. It was really most important to their education. "Bingledack spent most of his adult life hiding away from other people and secretly working on a spell that would mean he could control the tides, instead of the moon. He thought that with this ability, no-one would challenge him. The ministry, naturally as the ministry does, managed to cover up the actual event and hide the area from muggles: Unfortunately, Bingledack didn’t realise just how strong the magnetic pull was." Professor Orbon looked over at his students and noticed one had paled considerably, perhaps due to sea-sickness so he quickly continued on so they could end this. "It’s strong enough to pull nearby ships off course and, once they are directly above the place of the backfired spell, powerful enough to drag the ships underwater." It was a very sad thought but he had a class to teach so he forced onwards as all good professors should during difficult discussions in class. "As it tends to go, stories began to circulate of a mysterious area of the sea where people disappeared. They didn’t really gain momentum until muggles invented Aeroplanes- Those metallic things they fly in." Eduardo hoped his students were taking Professor Phillips class to understand the reference, otherwise that might be for their private studies. "Things, as things go, got worse; you see, not only do some ships get dragged into the sea, but planes too. It took some time for 'us' to come up with a shield that not only hides the area but also counteracts the magnetized section. All of Bingledack’s research blew up with him so we never knew exactly what magic we had to reverse. All he left was a diary full of useless rants but no information on the spell." With his lecture over, he smiled and nodded at his class pleased with it and then quickly instructed them to touch the port key so they could arrive back in their class and he could offer them cookies and tea to warm them up enough. Homework: RP the lesson. Take notes (EC)Astronomy,6,5 |
