Professor Aeon Summers

Canine Animagus ☼ Spell Inventor Magical Menagerie Proprietor Transfiguration Professor 1-4 Brodie's Familiar

Professor Summers greeted his students from behind his desk as they entered the classroom, gesturing for them to take their seats. This particular group of second years were the handful he had taught the previous years. He was yet to meet the students from the other two houses. Transferring positions was a pain like that. At least these faces were familiar. "Good morning, and welcome back to Transfiguration. For those new students who have transferred over, or the old ones who are simply just forgetful, I'm Professor Aeon Summers. Now, let's get started. As I'm sure you all remember, first year was centered around Inanimate to Inanimate Transfiguration. We're completely done with that branch. This year we're moving on to something more complex; Animate to Inanimate. It's a lot more challenging than what we've done so far, but I'm confident that most of you won't have too much trouble." The wizard glanced around the classroom, happy that the majority of them had seemed somewhat capable from the previous year. They were a few who were rather disappointing, but he couldn't have a perfect class.

"If you all remember back to first year, we went over Transfiguration terms and their meanings in your first lesson. If you can't properly recall, Animate to Inanimate transfigures something living into something that is not. For example, a hamster into a rock, or a flamingo into a lawn flamingo. Of course, as much fun as trolling muggles by selling temporarily transfigured animals would be, the Ministry doesn't allow it. Rules are rules I guess. Anyway, as with Inanimate to Inanimate Transfiguration, you're still using the three-tap method, so nothing changes there."

He stopped to make sure everyone was following along, continuing when he was sure at least most eyes were on him. "A few people have some difficulty understanding how Animate to Inanimate transfiguration works. We don't take the life away from the animals, it's more like we suspend it. They still has some small degree of awareness and thought, but are incapable of movement, speech, seeing or hearing. If you were to turn a person into a couch, they essentially are a couch for that period of time. They're aware if you were to sit on them, yet aren't able to do anything but provide you with comfort."

Summers got to his feet and walked around to the front of his desk as he spoke, suddenly feeling uncomfortable to be sitting in his own seat. The reality of it was that anything had the potential of being something else. A book thrown into a fire may very well have once been a human, transfigured into an object as a punishment or prank. Which brought him to his next step of the lesson. "There was once a time where Transfiguration was used to punish dark wizards and other rule-breakers. Before Azkaban, wizarding authorities had few places to hold wizards and witches. As such, they resorted to changing them into a stationary figure. Their bodies were turned to stone and became their prisons." His face was far more serious as he spoke. There were depictions of this punishment in old books around the library, and it wasn't pleasant. "Wizardkind has always had questionable methods of punishment. This method has not been used in a long time, but it wasn't that long ago that we still had Dementors roaming Azkaban. Thankfully now we have a less cruel system in place. Which brings us to your homework." Summers waved his wand toward the board, the chalk quickly scrawling their task onto its surface before they were dismissed.

struggling artiste | class of 2046, former head boy

[justify]Tholomyes had improved his grades since the last semester, and his parents had been happy about it, although he hadn't been too pleased by it, it had been good, he was learning more, doing more, but Theo had no real interest in the classes, they were fun when he did them, but he got bored in lectures and found any spells he could do in his own time with a little instruction. He had used to really love classes in his last school the mixture of classes that he did usually ended up with him being able to have lots of arts of languages class which he didn't have now. The boy did know that he had electives coming up and to him this was a good opportunity what his sister had told them about the classes he could pick hadn't helped much and he was looking to find out more about them. The young boy ignored all of this as he put down his pencil on the notebook and got off his bed to head to class, wondering if this would be one of the classes he had with Emma.

Tholomyes took his seat in the transfiguration classroom and looked to the front of the room where a familiar face was in front of him, the professor from last year, which was a good thing, he liked this man. The boy settled in his seat as the professor got started. It appeared as though it would be an interesting lesson, animate to inanimate, he had seen the title in his textbook but never given it much thought until now, you have to be careful. It literally suspended the life of a creature which he couldn't imagine doing but could definitely imagine others doing. But it made him curious about it. He listened to what the professor continued saying and realised it was actually a really interesting bit of magic, punishment for dark wizards, by the time the class had finished there were so many thoughts running through his head he left immediately for the library.

Silus sighed as he took a seat near the back of the classroom. The boy began subconsciously rubbing at one of his temples with a calloused finger.
The previous semester hadn't been so great for him, and while he normally wouldn't be motivated towards bettering his grades, his usual "P's" were finally starting to dig a big enough hole in his thoughts to bother him. He supposed skipping around wasn't the best plan in the long run. So here he sat, with his eyes trained on the Professor (for the most part), making an attempt to pay attention.

Now to be honest, most of what the Professor said went through one ear and out the other, but they perked up with new found interest once he heard something along the lines of "punishing rule-breakers". The idea of the school establishing a severe enough punishment to affect him had him tense in his seat. Not breaking the rules would be a habit just too hard to break. As he listened longer, however, he relaxed his posture and found himself suddenly interested in hitting up the library. He was curious on whether he could find depictions of what Prof. Summers what talking about. That'd be worth poking around in there, and with the added benefit of it making him look like he were studying...

Silus smirked, surprisingly pleased with the day's lesson. As class was dismissed, he found himself pondering his homework. He thought Transfiguration was quite the punishment system. Though if there ever was a slight possibility of him being tossed in the wizarding prison, he'd prefer it if he weren't turned into a statue. Transfiguration wouldn't be such a good punishment in that case, and he made the decision to be write his paper on how it should never be re-established...

Transfiguration was Xio's least favorite class however it intrigues her the most. Who the heck thinks turning things or yourself into something else is lame, right? That's why she's gonna go an extra mile to interest herself in this class. Mr. Summers started the class with his usually long speech. And refresh their minds about their past lessons which Lief kinda need since she had no idea what she did last year. He went on about rules and more rules which Xio jotted down along with the other things her professor told them. Finally, the class ended with another bloody homework.
