Canine Animagus ☼ Spell Inventor Magical Menagerie Proprietor Transfiguration Professor 1-4 Brodie's Familiar

Most of the students sat down in their desks upon entering the classroom, not bothering with the plastic jar on the Professor's desk. There was nothing special about the jar, but there were many colorful things inside it. A few of them kept standing and staring at the jar, while most just ignored it. Professor Summers waved away the few students that gawked, gesturing towards their desks.

"Sit down everyone," said Professor Summers, grinning. "Today we are going to work on our first transfiguration spell of this year." He said, walking in front of the class. He could see excitement on students' faces at doing some practical work. He himself was excited, as he preferred spellcasting over writing constantly. As a student, using magic in class would always give him a rush, as if nothing could stop him now that he could turn turtles into tortoises.

"In the last lesson we learned about Animate to Inanimate Transfiguration, and that's what we are going to do today." He said and held up the colourful jar from the table.

"Beetles," He announced, raising the jar just above his chest so everyone could see the small insects scittering around inside. "We are going to transfigure them into coat buttons. Small objects especially insects are easiest to transfigure, because you don't have as much detail to worry about," He said, handing the jar to a girl in the front row. "Keep one beetle with you, and pass out the others among the rest."

The students took a long time to choose a beetle of their choice. There was quite the variety, colours, spots, sizes. Finally, after the last student had selected a beetle, Aeon continued the lesson. "Hold onto your beetles, don't let them escape; be gentle though, we don't want them dead. Please try not to kill them. Now, you will find that in transfiguration that it is easier to change items that are closer in size to each other. Matchsticks and needles are of the same size, shape, and weight. Essentially all you had to transfigure was the material and color. The same with beetles. They are small and similar in size to buttons, so all you need to do is to change the shape. Remember, that doesn't mean that it's easy. You still need the proper wand movement and concentration. Now," Professor Summers flourished his wand, "as I told you in the last lesson, Animate to Inanimate Transfiguration uses the 'three tap' method of wand waving. Make sure you use that or the spell will not work properly. Visualize the outcome."

"The incantation for this transfiguration is 'Praepilatus'. repeat it after me."
Aeon said, and waited until they were finished. "Now, first you must picture a button in your mind. I want all of you to picture a button with the same coloring as your beetle. That will make it a lot easier for you. As I said, we're mostly focusing on the shape. Once you're comfortable, you may attempt to alter other features. After that raise your wand, visualize the beetle turning into the button. When you are ready, tap the beetle three times with your wand, and swish the wand through the air, saying the incantation. Praepilatus!"

At his words, the chunky beetle on his desk flattened into a round, glittering button.

"Now perform the transfiguration on your beetle. I want to see buttons good enough to line my coat with." He beamed. "If you have any problems, feel free to ask. And don't worry - this won't hurt the beetles."
Homework: RP transfiguring beetles into buttons. Feel free to rp myself helping you.

[justify]Joining the quidditch team and the subsequent victory they had enjoyed shortly after had greatly improved Rome's view on the week, though she hadn't gotten to play and the game had been incredibly short, the young Slytherin was thoroughly happy with her decision, she felt the practices were good for her, allowing her to experience what she wanted, and to vent some of the pent up rage which she felt in her day to day life, it was a good way of her just being able to express herself without too much of a worry. The young girl felt happy with her decision to join, though she definitely felt less happy about her continued committment to class, it was just frustrating to have to plan her life around them, she had much preferred when she'd only gone when it had suited her. That wasn't this, she was going for Cairo, for better grades so that her family might be proud of whatever she achieved more so than if it was anything their family was interested in, like music, Rome knew she would never be as smart as Cairo but she was willing to attend some lessons.

Rome would never admit it, but she was very much looking forward to the next Transfiguration class, the thought of having to do theory was putting her off slightly, but it was still one of the few classes where she was actually liking what they'd done so far, even though all they'd actually done so far was one lesson. She took a seat in the room and looked to the front where the professor was stood in front of them, beginning his lesson. She was pretty excited that they'd actually be doing a spell, and was looking forward to being able to do such a thing. She wasn't happy about the prospects of using beetles, but she was looking forward to making it into a button, she definitely intended to just sit and do that repeatedly to the creatures outside the room, the little ones at least. She took one of the beetles and then continued to listen, resist the urge to kill it and then finally when the professor had shown them how to do it, and the spell, she was able to try. Rome visualised turning the beetle into a button in her head, focus her mind on such an outcome, "Praepilatus," she said, and nothing happen, there was definitely some action from her wand, but nothing else, so she did it again, tapping the beetle three times and saying, "Praepilatus," this time the beetle did switch and Rome smirked happily to herself. After that the lesson was wrapped up and Rome was able to leave the room, feeling content with how it had gone.

Maddie took her familiar seat near the back of the classroom and waited patiently for the class to begin. She was a bit nervous to begin these next few classes, it didn't feel right turning living creatures into objects even if it was only for a little while. She sighed as the Professor began to explain to them what they would be doing in this lesson. Maddie chose a beetle out of the jar and tried to keep it on the desk while also listening to the instructions the Professor was giving out. It was an emerald green colour with very faint silver spots on its back. It sounded very difficult and Maddie was worried that she would get the spell wrong and something terrible would happen to the beetle. She repeated the incantation a few times with the Professor until she felt confident enough that she could pronounce it properly. She tried to visualise a button with the same markings as the beetle that she picked out and took a deep breath and pointed her wand at the beetle. After three taps she said "Praepilatus" but nothing happened, the beetle jumped a little but that was it. She frowned, imagined the button again, tapped her wand three times and said "Praepilatus!". The beetle transformed into a beetle before her eyes and she felt a sense of accomplishment despite her feelings about transfiguring a living thing.

Hemi thought any spell that turned a living thing into button was well worth learning. Never again would he be annoyed if he lost a button on his shirt, he had a spell for getting a new one. Hemi could even remove all the regular buttons from his shirt and replace them with former beetles just because he could. He wondered how many buttons at Hogwarts were actually transfigured beetles, it struck him as animal cruelty but much spells were obviously acceptable at Hogwarts

He took out his wand and attempted the spell on his test subject, "Praepilatus" He said, tapping his wand. Nothing happened, it never worked first time for anyone so he wasn't bothered and tried again. In fact Hemi tried another three times before any Transfiguration took place. The beetle most definitely looked like a button, but Hemi had screwed up somewhere and the button still had movement, scurrying around Hemi's desk as if disorintated. Hemi slammed his hand down on top of it and it became still. "That'll do" He said, submitting his button for the Professor.

Charlotte had definitely had enough of the boring Transfiguration lectures. She hadn't even learnt anything interesting in the subject apart from the fact that it was hard to become an animagus, probably because she failed to listen half the time. She wanted to try and do better this year and sighed before walking into the classroom, not really having any good expectations for the lesson. Fortunately, as Charlotte seated herself, the professor told them that they were learning their first Transfiguration spell for the year and Charlotte couldn't contain herself. She jumped up and down in her seat and snatched the jar from the person closest to her so she could choose her beetle. It took her quite a while but she chose a small purple one with black dots on it and carefully placed it on her desk. When instructed, she began to tap the beetle with her wand three times before saying the incantation. "Praepilatus." she said, trying her best to visualise the beetle as a purple and black button. After a lot of tries her beetle had turned into a button but it still had it's eyes attached. Shrugging, she took it over to the professor nonetheless and exited the classroom when the lesson finished. She'd have to keep practicing to get it perfect later.

Class of 2046 | Gryffindor Graduate | Thunderers seeker | Cade campaign intern

James was hoping for something more active as he made his way to Transfiguration. After the boring lecture the previous lesson he wanted to take his wand out and turn something into something else. Transfiguration was one of those lessons that could be very boring one week then very exciting the next. At least James hoped that would be the case this time. The Gryffindor walked into the classroom and took a seat behind the usual group. For the most part they were his friends, with the exception of Maddie of course who for some reason couldn't stand him. James took his wand out and placed it on the table while he listened to Professor Summers begin to talk them through what they would be doing that lesson. To James' relief they would be practicing a new spell and they would be transfiguring beetles into buttons. Along with the rest of the class James repeated the incantation out loud. When everyone had practiced the spell they were let lose to try it out for real. James took a beetle and carried it over to his desk, he picked up his wand and hovered it over the beetle, tapping in the air three times, "Praepilatus," The beetle seemed to freeze and transformed into a button and plonked on the desk. James grinned to himself as he picked up the button and took it over to show Professor Summers before he left the classroom.

Rudolf was always pleased to see Transfiguration approaching on his timetable. Professor Summers was the best, and although Reuben wasn't there to keep him company, the young Gryffindor always entered the classroom with a broad grin on his face. He took his seat next to his friends and listened intently to the Professor, who soon told them that they would be practising animate to inanimate transfiguration that day. Rudolf practically bounced in his seat, but quickly calmed himself when he realised he was getting a little over excited about it. He headed up to the jar of beetles and picked himself out a red one with white stripes, shuddering as its feet tickled his fingers. He was used to bugs and beetles, but that didn't mean he'd grown to like them.

Back at his desk, Rudolf placed down the beetle and envisioned it with button-like qualities. After several minutes, he withdrew his wand from his pocket, cleared his throat, and whilst tapping his wand said, "Praepilatus." The beetle morphed before his very eyes, becoming rounder and shinier before eventually taking on the full form of a button. Rudolf grinned, looking around to see how his friends were getting on. He giggled at Hemi and his still scurrying button. Once a few others had completed the task too, Rudolf took his button to Professor Summers and thanked him for the lesson.
