Summers waited comfortably at his desk for the first years to file in for yet another lesson. Unfortunately, they still wouldn't be doing any wandwork just yet. As they each took their seats, he rose from him and started into the day's topic. "Good morning! Great to see you all back. Wands won't be required today, sorry, but we have some more theory to get through before moving on to the exciting stuff." There were a few groans and other disappointed sounds, but the professor simply rolled his eyes. He wanted to get to spellcasting as much as they did.

"We'll try get through this quickly. Your first year is all about introductions and general familiarization, which I'm sure you've found to be the case in other subjects too. While you won't be performing most types of Transfiguration during this year, with the sole focus being Inanimate to Inanimate, you will need to know about what you'll be learning in future to help you prepare for it. Next year you'll be going into Inanimate to Animate, and so on through the list we covered earlier in the year." The wizard gestured toward the board with his wand as he spoke, causing the chalk to come to life, as usual, and write up the list again for those who needed a refresher.

"These are your building blocks. Think of Inanimate to Inanimate transfiguration as the foundation for which the others build upon. That being said, Animate to Animate transfiguration will provide the backbone for nearly every advanced transfiguration spell that you will learn in future years. You must capable of transfiguring animals in general before you can hope to learn to switch, vanish, or conjure them, or even put your hands on human transfiguration." He paused to allow the few stragglers to keep up with their note-taking before he continued on, hands moving animatedly as he spoke. "Of course, human transfiguration, as you should know from lesson one, includes the animagus transformation. An animagus, for those of you who weren't paying attention, is a wizard or witch who can transform into a specific animal at will, though they are rare. This school however, has trained more animagi than any other that I'm aware of. Myself and even the Headmistress are both animagi, as have been a few other professors who have taught here. Naturally, with this power comes responsibility, and the Ministry has regulations in place to avoid us causing havoc, if we wanted to." He stopped once more and flicked his wand towards the blackboard. The chalk floated away from the list it had already written up and began working on another.
Quote:

Animagi: Requires a license and is heavily regulated. The Ministry has a list of registered animagi, for obvious reasons. Any animagi found to not be on the list faces time in Azkaban prison.

Apparition: A license is required to apparate legally. You will learn to apparate in year six, and not a moment before.

Invisibility: The Ministry has tried time and again to keep restrictions on the use of invisibility cloaks and spells, unfortunately to no avail.

Muggles: The Department of the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts office, also known as Creation of Dangerous Objects Department, attempts to minimize the number of harmful objects created from muggle items. Sometimes they are successful, sometimes not.

Time Travel: This branch is heavily restricted, and for obvious reasons. Very few people ever receive permission to travel back in time.

"And with that we have homework. Nothing to extensive, more just a survey on your opinions that will give you some easy extra credit. That's all, class is dismissed." The Professor finished, conjuring a sheet of parchment on each students desk before they left.
Essay: Should there be more or less laws limiting transfiguration spells?

The weather was getting warmer around them and Sianna was looking forward to the joy that the summer months would bring for herself and those around her. She had been enjoying Hogwarts so far, she liked the classes and she liked the challenges which she face, she liked being able to do new things with her life, and really the more time she spent in classes and receiving relatively good grades, definitely better than her brother's the more at ease she felt. It was easy to get frustrated at her brother for what he did, but the more time she spent at the school the easier it was for her to just enjoy things and for thoughts of her brother to be completely left behind. The girl was currently getting ready for class, she put on her freshly washed uniform and sat down to ensure that she was looking fine, since there really was nothing wrong with taking pride in ones appearance. Eventually the girl was satisfied and she left her dorm room heading straight for the class which she had that day.

Sianna glanced at the front of the room as she sat down, looking to the professor at the front who was greeting them. She groaned a little at the fact they weren't going to be doing any spells but felt pretty pleased about it too, she still liked the transfigurations classes and was very much looking forward to being to eventually learn the spells that went along with what they were being taught. She had her work out in front of her, and continued to take notes about what was being said, finding it really very easy to follow what he was saying, it wasn't too difficult and she fully thought being able to follow along at this point would be a great benefit to her as the lessons over the years became more and more complex. She noted down what was written on the board, wondering what kind of skill level at transfiguration it would take to be an animagi or to be allowed to use time travel. With that, the lesson was over, the young Ravenclaw packed away her things and then left the room.

This is the 3rd lesson for transfiguration now. And still they were on lectures. Most specifically, RULES. Why are there so many? Bleaire thought again for the hundredth time.

The professor talked about animagi and license and stuff. Bleaire wanted to know how to turn things smaller for easier carry especially while walking down the stairs... She just waited until class was dismissed and was thankful for their assignment, because she will be able to voice out her opinions.

Lesson 3 Assignment

For me, there should be LESS laws limiting transfiguration spells because it isn't fun. And rules should be for those spells only that will cause great destruction because non-permitting rules are very tempting to try especially when a wizard is just starting out, and when there are too many rules, it would take a long time to remember. Thus, easier to go against them than follow them. Plus, too many rules distracts people from the important ones.

Miya absentmindedly put her wand in her bun as the professor said wands weren't needed. Her hair probably wasn't the best storage place for a wand, but it was more easily accessible than her pockets if she needed to suddenly hex something. Miya didn't mind listening to more theory lessons. The words slid right past her head most of the time and she struggled to grasp a lot of the concepts, but theory was difficult to mess up. She hid a smile when she read the part about invisibility. She was curious to know how difficult invisibility cloaks were to obtain. Being invisible sounded like the best thing ever to Miya. She'd read a little more about animagi since the last lesson, and was surprised to hear that other professors at the school were also animagi. Maybe the entire school was secretly a petting zoo, Miya thought in amusement. She scribbled down her notes as fast as she could and tried to ignore that she couldn't even read her own handwriting. Miya gathered her books into a messy pile and left quickly when the class was over.

Transfiguration Lesson 3

Rules are good because they stop people getting hurt, but I think there should be less rules. Too many rules makes things too complicated and that could lead to more problems! Having fewer rules make them easier to follow and remember. Not everything can be restricted and things like invisibility are difficult to control and other types of magic must be similar. And people don't always pay attention to rules and break them anyway, so having so many does not work anyway.

Another lecture, Aminia sighed and placed her forehead on her desk for a moment. There had been no point for her pulling her hair back into a messy bun as they weren't doing anything that involved her actual magic. The blonde sat her chin her her hand, elbow on the desk as she listened to the lecture that was being given. She knew it wasn't the professors fault, it was only because he had to teach them these things. Rules and theory weren't interesting though to Aminia, and so she let her eyes seemingly glaze over as she listened. Once class was out the girl left with a wave. She'd decided that as long as the antiquated bathroom was open, she'd practice there.
