Professor Davershire grinned at the students when they entered the room. Once they were seated, she flicked her wand at the blackboard.

Transfiguration and the Ministry of Magic

"I am sure you have realized Transfiguration is very complex and dangerous magic," she started. "Someone who chooses to walk closer to the dark side could use a Transfiguration spell to bring harm to many innocent people. The Ministry of Magic has made punishments for those that misuse the spells. For instance, the Ministry punishes anyone who uses Transfiguration on any human being for the purpose of hurting them or entertainment," She stopped for a moment to take a breath.

"Not just on humans, but using Transfiguration on animals is also strictly forbidden unless if it's a life threatening situation," she continued. "In short, the Ministry of Magic has laws for usage of all types of Transfiguration. That is part of the reason that I mentioned I am a registered animagus. The Ministry has my transformed shape on file to know what I am up to in my transformed state."

At this point, Ava noticed a hand raised. "Yes?"

"Even for Inanimate to Inanimate Transfiguration?" a student asked.

"Yup, of course," she replied.

"But how could that be used wrongly, professor?" the same student asked, a bit surprised.

"The Ministry of Magic has numerous laws on using Transfiguration, which we will cover more in-depth next lesson; though it won't be the complete list. But if you are interested, there are books of Transfiguration laws available in the Library. You can read them. Though the Ministry of Magic forbids doing experiments on animals as I said, Hogwarts is a school and it has the permission of the Ministry to use animals, so you as a student can practice Transfiguration." She looked to see a somewhat satisfied look on the students face.

"Okay, now homework," Professor Davershire smiled as some of the students groaned, but she flicked her wand at the board nevertheless, making the homework appear.

Ada looked at her schedule, Transfiguration, nodding slightly trying to remember where exactly the classroom was. Walking in the general direction of the classroom, Ada wondered if they would be close to transforming things this class. She decided that so far that the Transfiguration classroom was the easiest to find, mainly because she hasn't been late for any lessons yet.

Being the first to class made Ada unusually happy, she sat right in the front, and slightly to the left. For some reason she preferred the left side to the right in about every classroom she has so far. Sitting down, Ada pulled out her quill, extra ink, and some parchment. Professor Davershire started right on time, Ada hadn't realized time had passed while she spaced out. Today's lesson was very interesting, it meet occurred to her that other wizards made laws against transfiguration, or any magic for that matter.

A little while through her lesson they talked about restrictions on using transfiguration, Ada couldn't get an idea out of her head, a question. She was feeling a bit shy but, she was dead curious, "even for inanimate to inanimate transfiguration?" The response was not what she was expecting, "but how could that be used wrongly professor?" She looked up eagerly.

Ada was not disappointed in the Professor's response. She still couldn't believe why, they all went to school for seven years to learn magic, then go and d get a job only to put constrictions on what they had learned. It just didn't make any sense. After the lesson Ada basically flew to the library to do more research, and to do her homework.

Homework

Three day to day transfigurations:

1) changing liquids, say, water to butter beer.
2) changing the colour of clothing.
3) changing textures of materials.

Kurtis sunk into one of the empty chairs with an almost disgruntled look on his face. He honestly didn't like this lesson as the whole concept of changing things around with a simple spell and some wand movements did seem to muddle up his brain. In all honesty he really preferred the type of lessons where there was barely any wand work at all like Herbology. He could easily understand that with his father being a Biologist who was around different types of animals and plants every day. He swore his house was filled to the brim with different plants where his dad was trying to merge two different things together with magic. Kurtis did think he would have been better suited to a magical job than a muggle one, but his father was happy so who was he to complain about it really?

Listening to the Professor he tried to take everything in, writing down his notes with the tip of his tongue poking out in concentration. Of course there was going to be laws on using this kind of magic just like there were laws against the Dark Arts and that kind of thing, it was important that people didn't find out that magic was real at any cost and people didn't get hurt in the process. Though thankfully the lesson was over and so Kurtis eagerly packed up his things before standing and leaving the classroom, making a mental note to get on with the homework as soon as possible just to get it out of the way.

Sauntering slowly into the Transfiguration classroom, Soren took a seat in the far corner, slumping his bag against the leg of his desk as he sat. He wasn't too sure of what to expect when it came to this subject, changing something into something else, it seemed to him to be a bizarre form of magic. He did wonder what it would be like to transform into something that could fly, or live underwater, as an animagus could. But the risk of being stuck with something boring made it seem like a waste of time. The professor had revealed she could turn into a dog during the previous lesson. It was so adorable! Golden retrievers were one of the cutest dogs. But was it worth it? Especially if you ended up transforming into something like a cow, or a worm. Soren wasn't sure if he'd have been happy with whatever outcome he was given. He couldn't imagine it would be anything other than simple and plain, like he was. He frowned at the thought, one hand rummaging through his bag for his books. He'd probably end up as a rabbit, quiet, easily frightened. Soren had a pet rabbit once, Lopsy, with white fur and brown patches. It disappeared one morning, and his father told him he had taken it to a farm where it could run around freely and make friends with other rabbits.

They had rabbit stew that same night.

Fishing out his parchment and quill, the Hufflepuff turned his attention away from his thoughts and focused on the professor, who had begun discussing the "dark side" of transfiguration and its punishments. He wondered, confused, as to what could be evil about changing things, though she didn't seem to go into any detail. How could a person be injured by transfiguration? Unless they were changed into an ant and stepped on, or something. Another student posed a question, asking if inanimate to inanimate transfiguration was punishable by the Ministry as well. Yup, of course. was the response, as if it were so obvious. Soren blinked. What. He thought, but again the professor brushed over it and didn't go into any details. By the end of the lesson, Soren left the classroom feeling more confused and less like he'd learned anything. Transfiguration was not a subject he thought he'd enjoy too much.
