As the students entered the room, Trina gave them all a soft smile as some of them seemed to be giving her strange looks but that could have been due to the cages on each of the desks. A few of the students continued to give Professor Adelia strange looks, but sat down anyways. They knew she would fill them in when the time was right. She soon rose from her desk, and walked in front of them to begin class. "Welcome, welcome. I am Professor Adelia and will be standing in for Professor London until further notice. This week we will be working with a verbal conjuring spell again. You each have a cage because we will be conjuring up a flock of birds." A few faces around the room showed that she was making total sense. She smiled and continued, "Now I really didn't think we wanted dozens of birds flying around the room, so I have provided you each with a cage to contain your birds in." Moving back to the board in the room, she tapped it and the word "avis" appeared on the board. "This is the spell for conjuring birds. It is pronounced just like it looks. Avis. I will give you a quick demonstration of the spell." She quickly crossed to her desk. Tapping the cage three times, she spoke the word and a flock of birds appeared inside. The birds were small, yellow canaries and quickly started to make a lot of noise. "As you can see, this will become a very loud lesson." She picked up the cage and moved to the window, quickly opening it and then the cage. She allowed the birds to fly free before shutting the window again. Turning back, she spoke as she replaced the cage. "Now it is again important to concentrate on exactly what kind of bird you wish to conjure. Please pay attention to detail. We don't want to have a bird that barks or anything like that." She smiled before continuing. "If you need any inspiration, I have a few books on birds over on the shelf that you may feel free to use. Once you have your birds in the cage, I will grade you and then you may feel free to release them into the wild. Feel free to practice as many times as you wish. I will be walking around to help you as you need." She smiled, then with a nod of her head, dismissed them to work. Homework: RP the lesson. Pictures of your conjured birds may be included if you wish. Have fun! |

The fifth week was rolling in and there was nothing Nikandros Matthias would love to do than to sit back and laze around, but he could not. The Gryffindor needed some good grades or else he would have to deal with his dad and he did not want to have to deal with him anytime soon. Nikandros sighed as he entered the classroom and he found his seat toward the back but not in the main back either. Nikandros sighed and he looked ahead at the professor before he wondered what they were going to be doing today. There was only so much that a Gryffindor could do. No doubt what they were going to be doing today, after he had realized where he was. This was one of those classes that one would have to predict on what they were going to do, and he recalled nothing at all. So, he could not guess. The spell was called Avis, and Nikandros had to remember that or else he would not be able to conjure the birds that he was thinking of. He watched as the professor did it without so much as a hesitation. The lesson was going to become loud, fast, so he hoped that he would be able to do it. Nikandros hoped that no one in here would make a bird that barked or else he would lose all concentration. He knew what he wanted to conjure. They didn't make many sounds at all. Once he flourished his wand, he concentrated on every part of their body, and he could see one in his mind. Six little hummingbirds filled his cage, buzzing around and making little noise, just as he had hoped. Nikandros could hear the squawking of the other birds that were conjured as he took his cage up to the front to be graded. After he was graded, Nikandros went back to his seat as he waited to be dismissed. Once they had, he grabbed his things and went off to take a potion or something for his headache. |

Damon Kyle was looking forward to the holidays, unlike before in the past. Just a couple more weeks to go, and he knew that he could do so much with his family. The lack of a mother bothered him, but not that much anymore. Damon smiled to himself as he entered the classroom and found his seat near the front of the classroom. He looked to his right and left and did not see Sofii there and he frowned. Well, she might show up here soon. He did not look for Alaska since she did not like him much either way. Brother or just peer, he was not liked. Damon did not know why because he thought that he was lovable. Soon everyone entered and the professor greeted the class. He could not wait until he could get through with the lessons so that he could start with the holiday planning. He needed that more than anything. The prefect’s eyes looked upon the cage that was resting on his desk and he wondered why it was thise. He hoped that they were not going to do anything that would be inhumane. He listened to Professor Adelia and then heard that they were going to be conjuring up a flock of birds. The spell was called Avis. That would be nice! The professor demonstrated this spell and he looked around to see if the others were as excited as he was. He thought over what kind of birds he was going to conjure before he settled on some very quiet ones. Pigmy Owls. He loved those birds so much. He figured that it would be adorable! He concentrated on their features, and he intoned the spell with the right wand movement. Inside of his cage burst forth from emptiness to a small flock of owls. Once they were free to leave, Damon gathered his things and he left the classroom. |

Finally, it was the fifth week of lessons, which meant that there was just one more lesson in each classroom before moving on to another set of uninteresting classes ahead. Sergei did not want to do much to begin with, but earning Slytherin many points made it worthwhile. It had taken a while, but Sergei was finally taking an interest in the house that the hat sorted him in. Sergei settled into his seat in the back of the classroom and waited for the rest of the idiots to arrive, sans his relatives and the few that he actually talked to. Then again, he never talked to anyone now. He was busy doing his own thing and it was going to stay that way since he did not want to do anything else. Sergei was not interested in many things. Just some things. Sergei sighed and he thought that he needed to just get over some things and get to work. At least this time, the desks were normal. Something Sergei had observed once he had taken his seat. Apparently, they were going to be working with verbal magic again. He looked down at the desk and noticed that there was indeed a cage, and they would have to deal with conjuring up birds. The spell was called Avis, and it was simple to pronounce too. And it would become loud fast, really fast. That was going to be bad for him. He decided to summon a flock of crows. The cage was big enough to fit a few anyway. He focused and he flourished his wand. He intoned, "Avis." Then a few crows were conjured into the cage. This was not unusual now. Sergei covered his ears with his hands to block out most of the noise from the damn birds. He showed the cage to the professor once they were free to leave, and he went to the nurse to get a potion for the lesson brought headache. |

It was the last week of lessons before the study lessons came. Bryce Chamberlin felt relieved that he could take a break from his studies and his training to be a seer. He would still practice over the holidays, but he would gladly do that in his own time. He could not wait until he could relax, but still, having his dad not be there for Christmas made him more depressed than ever. He let out a sigh, but he did not dwell on painful thoughts. The librarian said that one day, it will be better. And he could not wait until he woke up to that day. It would indeed be the day that he could smile without forcing it. He entered the classroom and took his seat where he always did before he looked at the professor. He waited for the lips to start moving so that the lesson could begin. Now, it was time for another lesson, and they would have to work with verbal conjuring. And, they had the substitute professor this time. And, they would be conjuring a flock of birds. He felt relief that he did not have hearing. He just thought of the birds that he liked, and he thought of some blue jays. He liked those an awful lot. He really did. He looked into the cage that he would have to conjure into, and he smiled a little bit. He said the incantation before he thought of the birds, and he had some red birds instead. Well, it was better than nothing. He turned in the cage before leaving for the day. He liked this lesson, because he was a fan of bird watching. |

He was in the second last week of classes before the exams. Tybalt usually around this time was feeling pretty stressed but for some reason, he was managing to stay pretty calm. For some reason that was beginning to freak him out just a little bit more. He was sure that eventually he'd get over it, and the stress would hit him in waves. Despite not being overly stressed, the boy was studying pretty hard. He was splitting his time between the books and the quidditch. He could almost feel victory. He knew that the team was perfectly capable of getting it, he just hoped that they would. He wanted Taylor to be able to walk away with a victory. To leave the school, knowing they'd gotten the cup. He always had next year to be able to try again. Happily the teen was gathering his thing and getting ready for the class that was going to. It was pretty easy, he just had to triple check that he had everything. He had his quidditch gear ready at the end of his bed, so that straight after he could get some practice in. He was looking forward to it a lot. But, for now, he had to focus on the class that he had. Tybalt sat down in the room, and looked to the professor as she began her lesson. They'd be conjuring birds in this lesson. Which seemed like a good thing. Though a little strange, but he didn't think it really mattered. He was smiling slightly, and then watched as the professor demonstrated how it was done, Avis being the spell. He was smiling to himself and then looked to the cage at his desk this was surely not going to be too hard he assumed. Happily he got to work. He imagined the same kind of bird that the professor had made appear. Sure they weren't exactly quiet, but that didn't bug him. He smiled happily. Tapping the wand three times against the cage and then said, "Avis" suddenly the cage was filled with birds. he couldn't help the smile that graced his lips. That was simple. He nodded to himself and then with that, the class was wrapped up. he wasn't sure what to do with them, so he just handed the cage to the professor so that the professor could make the decision. With that, Tybalt just gathered his things and then left. |
