As her students sat down, Professor Davershire took a large box from under the desk. On closer inspection, it was actually a chess set. The marble pieces stood still, staring blankly out at the class. "Okay, something fun for our last lesson. Who here has played wizard chess?" Professor Davershire asked. A very few students raised their hands; wizard chess was not exactly one of those subjects that most 12 year olds found particularly fascinating. "Before those chess pieces have minds of their own, they are normal, boring, chess pieces that rather resemble the type used by most muggles." "The pieces are transfigured, by a special team of wizard toy makers, to come to life. Depending on which wizard brought the piece to life, the chess pieces all have their own distinct personality. This type of transfiguration falls under the Inanimate to Animate type of spell." "This," Professor Davershire pointed at the chess set, "is a muggle chess set. The pieces remain stationary, having no animation or personality of their own, until we put some life in them." Professor Davershire took her wand out and pointed it at one of the knights. "Animare!" The piece's facial features changed first. Its mouth melted into gentle smile, scowl, and even goofy jester grin. Next its attire changed somewhat. The piece remained in the clothing that had been carved onto it, but it seemed to come to life, separating from its body somewhat and becoming three-dimensional so as to give it a more 'real' appearance. The knight swung its sword menacingly. Professor Davershire's eyes moved from the knight to the class with a smile. "As you can see, the incantation 'animare' brings things to life. Naturally, other inanimate objects are brought to life to amuse children. Chocolate frogs are an excellent example that comes to mind. After the chocolate is mixed and set, candy makers use a sort of mild spell form of the spell on it so as to not disturb the flavor. The result is that they really only get one good jump before --" "Oy, there! Ya' don' look fit ta play agains' a fruit fly, ya' wee lass!" The knight interrupted gruffly, swinging his sword as though he meant to lop someone's ear off. Professor Davershire's face flushed a light pink as she flicked her wand and untransfigured it back into an inanimate piece. "Ok, so the wand movement," she said quickly. "The type of wand movement best suited for Inanimate to Animate Transfiguration is called 'One-Tap Method.' You should tap the object that you are going to transfigure once squarely in it's center and then aim the wand at the object, speaking aloud the incantation. With the proper visualization and concentration, the correct wand movement, and a firmly spoken incantation, you should find yourself able to cast most inanimate to animate spells. Now one by one come to the front, pick a chess piece, and try to bring it to life in front of the class. Starting from you!" Professor Davershire pointed at a student sitting on the first bench of the first row. Homework: RP trying to bring a chess piece of your choice to life in front of the class |

Scarlet sure was glad that it was already the last week of lessons though she can't say the same about her whole semester experience. Sure, it was bearable but that didn't mean that the Hufflepuff appreciated it to its fullest. After all, she had a couple of issues that needed to be dealt with, but for now, she would have to just deal with Transfiguration since it seemed to be the one that needed her immediate attention right now. It was one of her classes after all that didn't make the lesson a free one for review. Instead they would be reviewing so it was quite a new experience that she did not expect. With a sigh, Scar merely listened to the professor's instructions and watched in fascination as the chess piece came alive. It was a sight to behold even if she was already in her second year of study. After the demonstration was over and the instructions were given out, Scarlet stood from her seat and made her way towards the chess pieces and had gotten herself a queen piece. The Hufflepuff stared at it before resuming her seat and bringing out her wand to try and animate the said piece. "Animare," she said meekly and flicked her wand but it did nothing to actually make the piece move, much less to be alive. A few attempts later, Scarlet was nowhere near getting the spell done while much of her classmates had already finished and she immediately knew her chances with this exam. Her attempts had been futile until class was over and she resolved to ask Jakobe and Giuliano for help since they do seem to be more capable than she ever will be in this field. |
