[justify]Lesson Five:

The clocked ticked by slowly as Professor Effie Kingston waited patiently for her class to arrive. She knew very well that today's lesson was going to be a bit of a pain, but it was part of the lesson plan. She had to have this at least attempt and get the concept of this next. This particular group had demonstrated that they were capable of understanding the subject fairly well. Effie had confidence in them. A student entered the classroom and Effie greeted them with a warm smile. Others soon followed. When the final student was seated and all ready to begin the listen, Professor Effie Kingston gracefully rose from her chair and and slowly to the center of the classroom, where she allowed her soft gaze to fall upon the group of students.

"We have now completed our introduction to Arithmancy. You are now familiar with the proper usage of the Pythagorean System and the essential details of the Core Concepts. However, any insight that you think you have gained into yourself based upon analysis of your given name and surname is incomplete and not founded in the true essence of Arithmancy. The work done previously was merely a test of your ability to perform simplistic calculations and justify your findings. For some of you, this may be a relief as you may not have looked favourably on the results of your calculations. For the rest, you will need to understand that you have only scratched the surface of what is to come. Today we begin the real work." Professor Kingston looked at the confused expressions on some of his students and smiled awkwardly. She felt bad for the poor dears. Although it was her job to teach them what it was they needed to know, she realized that there was going to be times when they found things harder to understand. Effie pointed a wand at the board and a bunch of neatly written letters formed together upon it.

Life Path

The Life Path is at the heart of your being. It tells you what you are really like. Its qualities want to be utilized and acknowledged. It is what is innate and natural for you. It is the vibration in which your soul has chosen to ground its essence.

"The Life Path is revealed through your Life Number. The Life Number is found through analysis of your full birthdate. Unlike earlier calculations that you have performed, your Life Number should not be reduced unless it exceeds 21. Please note that if your original number exceeds 21 that you are required to begin reducing and continue doing so until you have arrived at a single digit number. The blackboard provides an example of each type of calculation."

Board

Date of Birth: January 12, 1970
Addition: 1 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 9 + 7 + 0 = 21
The number 20 does not need to be reduced further.

Date of Birth: May 2, 1982
Addition: 5 + 2 + 1 + 9 + 8 + 2 = 27
The number 27 needs to be reduced further. 2 + 7 = 9

Date of Birth: August 19, 1981
Addition: 8 + 1 + 9 + 1 + 9 + 8 + 1 = 37
The number 37 needs to be reduced to: 3 + 7 = 10
And again: 1 + 0 = 1

Professor Effie Kingston finished the group of notes and turned to survey the class carefully to ensure that they understood the difference between these calculations and those utilized previously involving the alphabet and Pythagorean System. Then she smiled again. "If there are no other questions, class is dismissed. See you next week!" Effie said warmly as she waved them off. Hopefully she didn't over induce their brains or anything. The group of students started to leave and Effie went back to her desk.
