On each desk in the class room sat a small boxes of various items, none of which were worth anything in regards to coin but where items that would server their purpose today for the lesson. Knick knacks, trinkets, do hickies, and things a mob aplenty the items were all broken or dirty beyond reason. As a neat freak James had to instill the help of the caretaker to rustle up some assort things for the class to practice charms on as he was not in possession of enough dirty or broken things in his life. He could have summoned a few up and smashed and deface but that seemed more hassle on his part which was not all that appealing as he would most likely begin cleaning and repairing them as he went. As the students begin to pour into the class the sound of deep sigh and confusion began to settle over his second years. Some knew what the lesson would be about having had siblings or parents who either used the spells outside of school or who had taken the class themselves at one point in time. James smiled as he held back a small laugh as he saw the expression of a few that really were not looking forward to what they would be learning. As you can see, sitting on the desk before you is a small box of house hold items along with various things you have or will encounter in your day to day life here at Hogwarts. Everything also is in a rather filthy state not to mention broken. Your task is to not only clean everything in your box but also fix everything to its original state of being. The muttering from his second years was ominous as a few students even glared at him. One brave if not foolish student stood up slightly annoyed as he looked the professor in the eye, How are we to do this professor if we have no cleaning supplies or tools? James quirked up an eyebrow which was more than enough to force the student back to their seat as he motioned for the class to become quiet. You will be using magic to aid in your tack today. The sigh of relieve and the look on his classes face went from annoyance to relief. The charms used today are rather useful charms for your everyday magical being s such as yourselves. Reparo is the repairing charm, and will be used to fix most broken objects to normal. The spell will require a different incantation and a much great will to replace some magical items while there are things that simply cannot be fixed or repaired once broken. Scourgify is a cleaning charm used to clean most hard to remove dirt or grim. The spell can remove wine from linens, caked on mud from boots, and even grease from those rather difficult pots and pans. James said with a smile as he walked up and down the aisle of his class. The wand movements for either spell are simply a point and flick method. Once you fix and clean everything in your box then you will be free to go. Next week will be the last practical lesson of the year before Exams. I will teach you a very special charm for all of your hard work this semester but I ask that you begin to study all charms that we covered over the year and practice them for homework. So with the lesson set out before you , you may move about the class and complete your work. Keep the volume to a minimum and if you need help I will be working on a few things at my desk. James said as he sat down at his desk and began going over a few things. When a student approached he helped them the best he could before setting back to work. When class was over he dismissed the students after checking in each box to make sure all the items had been cleaned or repaired to satisfaction. Once all the students left he cast a few spells to return the items to their original state before his next class. Assignment: roleplay the lesson Total points possible: 10 Extra Credit: 0 |

Iason was looking forward to this weekend, it was the first Brightstone weekend of the year so far and it couldn't come sooner. He was seriously running low on supplies and was looking forward to a good stationary shop. Of course, a trip to Brightstone might also take his mind off the fact that the second Quidditch game had yet to be scheduled and he was itching to get on the pitch again, even though the first game was only a few weeks ago it felt like for ever and this Slytherin wanted to kick some more butt at Quidditch. Of course he had plenty to keep his mind off Quidditch, what with the next edition of Hogwarts Monthly being due soon and he spearheading the entertainment section, he had a lot on his plate, maybe more than a second year should, but he enjoyed the chaos too much to care. After a late night studying and writing and researching Iason was surprisingly awake this morning and after a nice shower and hearty breakfast he was ready to take on the world. Grabbing his bag he made his way to class, taking his usual seat in the front. Taking out his writing equipment he waited for the class to start. As he waited for the class to start Iason peeked into the box that was sitting in front of him, everybody had one just like it on their desk, it looked like nothing except some old bits of metal and glass, confused he closed the box over as he heard Professor Killian starting to talk. As Professor Killian explained what today's task would be Iason soon clicked on what they would be doing today. Although when one of the other students asked how they were to complete this task without tools, Iason rolled his eyes, did he somehow think he was in a muggle school and not a magic one? Iason took down some notes about the spells they would be learning today as Professor Killian talked about them. Once they were told to start Iason carefully took out all the items and placed them in front of him on the desk. Taking a few minutes to make sure he had all the pieces and group them together he soon realised that he had had a pocket watch, a goblet and a fork - all in five or six pieces though. He decided that it would be best to try and repair all the items first and then clean them. Taking his wand out of his bag he started with the pocket watch. Taking a deep breath he pointed his wand at the broken pieces of the pocket watch and flicked his wand as he spoke the incantation. The broken pieces started to shake just a little but the watch was still clearly broken. Once again, Iason pointed his wand at the broken pieces and flicking his wand as saying the incantation he watched as all of the pieces magically stuck back together. Setting his wand down he opened the pocket watch and smiled as he saw all the hands moving and at the right time too. Picking up his wand again he started to repair the other items and in a matter of minutes he had a fully functioning watch, a straight fork and a goblet without a crack or chip in it. Now for the matter of cleaning them. Taking the watch first again he cleared his throat and pointing his wand at it again he flicked the wand as he spoke the incantation. Taken off guard he was surprised as he saw a burst of water eject from the tip of his wand, it wasn't often a spell worked for him on the first try. Carefully cleaning the watch until it was gleaming he then moved on to the fork and goblet, which by the end of it were all gleaming as if they were brand new. Once the Professor had inspected Iason's work and was happy with it he packed up his things and left the class so he could practice his spells for homework. |

Eager as ever, Lorin arrived on time for his fourth Charms lesson of the year. He smiled at the sight of the broken and dirty objects, knowing only too well exactly what sort of useful magic it was that they would be studying on that day. The dark-haired boy seated himself amongst the throng of curious, chattering children. He waited in silence for the class to begin. The students began to settle as they examined the artefacts upon their desks. As the Professor spoke, Lorin's gaze petered away from his teacher and down into the box waiting patiently before him. Inside he could see a scratched hand mirror, a broken pocket watch, and a heavily scuffed and muddied old boot. The perfect assortment. Once the Professor had given the class the go-ahead, Lorin took out his wand, smoothing it over his palm to check it still remained in good condition. After all, he didn't want anything going wrong during his attempts at spell work. Lorin withdrew one of the objects from his box and studied it closely: The old hand mirror had clearly seen better days. Its face was scathed and dusty, and the handle, which must have once been a vibrant shimmering silver, no longer glistened. Lorin laid it down upon the table and angled his wand at it. First he would repair the scratched surface. His wand waited for the command, and the boy gave it a flick. "Reparo!" He ordered boldly. The wand obeyed, sending a pulse of magic into the mirror, sealing up the cracks and already improving the outlook of this objects worth. Now it was time to clean it. Again, Lorin positioned his wand appropriately and mastered his wand. "Scourgify!" With a slight buzz, the wand's beam began to cleanse the dust gently from the mirror's face handle. It shone again, as Lorin imagined it must have done long ago in days of the past. Only when he was truly satisfied with his handiwork did Lorin replace the object in the box, and withdraw the next item he set his grasp upon; the old boot. The boy set about cleaning this in no time. "Scourgify!" He watched with pleasure as the filthy mud began to erase itself to reveal a shining brown leather boot. Lorin placed that, too, back inside of the box and took out the third and final item. The broken pocket watch came of great interest to the boy as he often intentionally dismantled clockwork mechanisms simply for the joy of manually reassembling them. He almost wished he could do the same here, but he knew the Professor had tasked them with using magical method to repair the items, and so that is what Lorin did. By the end of the lesson, Lorin had successfully cleansed and repaired each and every item in his box with a loving restoration. The Professor dismissed the class, asking only of them that they practice their charm work. This was not at all a bad idea, Lorin mused internally as he packed his bag to leave the room, for their exams were only a short while away. He left the classroom with this in mind, nodding a respectful thanks to the Professor as he left the box of fixed and shining items in their rightful place. |
