[justify]“In the early years here at Hogwarts you all rely heavily on the use of verbal magic. It is not to your upper years here that you will learn nonverbal magic. So the charms I will teach you today will allow you to control sound itself to either help you out of a difficult situation or to make it just that more difficult for others to gain the upper hand on you.” James said as the last student made their way to their seat. There was a lot to cover and only a short amount to do so before the class was over, time was of the essence. “The first charm of the day is Soronus, or the Amplify charm. Soronus is used on the spell caster to amplify their voice loud enough to be heard across a stadium if not further. This is a useful charm in that it allows one to be heard over great distances which can throw an opponent off if you are on the run. Next is Quietus, or the Quiet Charm. A far more useful charm in that it lowers the voice of the spell caster to a mere whisper allowing it to become increasingly hard to hear what spell a wizard or witch is casting. Casting either charm from an extreme state will return the voice to its normal state. The last charm is of course Muffliato, a charm that causes all in the area to hear a buzzing, like static , when within the affected area of the spell. This prevents those who would eavesdrop on the wizard or witch unable to hear what is being said not to mention provide a worthy distraction in preventing one from hearing what spells or charms are being used. All the above charms, as you can see, have their benefits.” James said as he waved his wand at the board to reveal a small list of notes for anyone who did not already have them copied down.

“At higher levels you will learn the useful charm Silencio, or the silencing charm which prevents the target from speaking until the charm is broken. A far more useful charm in forcing a witch or wizard into non verbal magic, a skill that few can say they are complete masters of outside of the highly gifted. While most of you will be unable to perform that particular spell it may end up on a subsequent Exam so it may be in your best interest to make note of it. With all of the above charms it seems as though all of them are better to be practice on your own. So when I give the word you may practice them all as you see fit so long as you are spaced out far enough to not interfere with other students. The room has been sound proof to help keep the noise levels down to controllable levels. Once you have practice each spell and feel as though you have got a good understanding of each charm you are free to go. Also one more note, the proper wand movements for the first two charms is a light touch to the throat with your wands, while the last is an elevated flick of the wand close to the ear. I will be around to offer support and where it is needed just merely raise your hand and I will get to you as soon as I can.” James said with a warm smile as he motioned for the class to set to work. As the remaining time ran out it seemed that most of his students had a decent grasp one or more of the spells which was okay so long as they continued to practice back in the dormitories. The final this year would be a difficult one as they had to be prepared for year five which had a large amount of note taking and review. When the bell rang he dismissed the remaining students before preparing for his next lesson.

[justify]Sage had always preferred magical classes over the theory ones. He just found them simpler and just overall, she just felt like they were better. For one thing, Sage just preferred doing things rather than sitting around. Which was a little ironic considering that she wanted to be a journalist after school, which would involve a lot of sitting down and writing, but for now, she liked the magic side of things. She enoyed the challenge of spells, of making them work, on trying to figure out if she could do more with them. Get more from them. All just more learning done when not sat in a classroom with the others in her year, attempting to just try to work through things. Happily however, the girl was excited for her next lesson. She was looking forward to it. It would be good to go to charms once more and learn just that little bit more about everything. Sage was ready bright and early, she was spending a little more time getting ready. Adjusting little bits of her uniform, playing around with her hair, until it became closer to the time, and she had to leave to go to class. Which came all too soon in her opinion. She wanted more time.

Heading to the classroom, the girl took her time. Not wanting to rush, and knowing she had plenty of time to get there. She knew she'd be on time, which was true when she arrived at the classroom, before anyone else, and before the class was due to start. The girl quickly took her seat, and got herself ready, just as the rest of the class walked in, and the professor at the front of the room got himself started. Sage thought that the Charms professor was fairly cute. He looked good. She focused on listening to what was being said. Making a few notes as he spoke. Listing all the charms they'd be learning. She liked the sound of all but the one that made the voice go louder. Though she imagined that would be easier in areas where it was necessary in this class, it wasn't so much. The girl practiced all the spells through when instructed to. Liking all of them. Finding them all interesting. Finally when Sage felt she had a decent grasp on all of the spells she knew that she would be able to leave, so she gathered up her things and left the room.
