Professor James Killian stood outside of the Charms classroom. The classroom door was locked. It was going to be his demonstration for the charms the students were going to be learning. He did not want to have to lock them inside the classroom. That would probably terrify them, so he decided to do it outside of the classroom. When he saw that the class had gathered around him he raised his hand up and they went silent. He had gotten tired of clapping. "Can I have someone come up here and open the door for me?" he asked. He called on a student that was further back. The student walked up to the door and tried to open it. "It's locked, Professor Killian." the student said. James nodded. "The door is locked. Today we will be learning to unlock and lock doors." James took out his wand and turned to the door. "Alohomora!" he pointed his wand at the door knob. Soon a click was heard. He opened the door and allowed the students to enter the classroom. He walked to the front of the classroom after all the students had taken their seats. "There locks on all of your desks. I want you all to try using 'Alohomora to unlock your locks. Then I would like you to use 'Colloportus' to lock them again. You may keep the locks if you wish. You may begin." he smiled. James walked around the classroom and assisted students who were having troubles. He thought this lesson was much better than the last one he had with another class. After the time was up Professor Killian walked back to the front of the classroom. "Please practice these charms as they can become very useful to you all. Class is dismissed." he waved as his second year packed their stuff and left the classroom. Assignment: Roleplay the lesson Total Possible points: 10 Extra Credit: First poster please try and open the door. For Five Points, |

Lorin couldn't wait to get stuck in to his third Charms lesson of the year. While he was not entirely secure in his level of ability within each of his school subjects, the boy did rather enjoy and savour each moment he spent within the classroom learning the very varied realms of magical study. Today's lesson seemed as though it was due to have a rather more unusual start. For one thing, Professor Killian was stood waiting outside, instead of his usual habit of remaining within the classroom. For another, the door to the Charms classroom appeared to be locked. Lorin dare not utter a single syllable once the Professor's hands were raised for silence. He paused with baited breath, eager to discover what exactly it was they should be studying today. Though he soon had a pretty good guess at the matter. The moment the Professor asked for a volunteer, Lorin stepped forth. He manually tried to open the door, but his theory had been correct. "It's locked, Professor Killian." Lorin said, turning respectfully to face his tutor. Thankfully, the class- which had started to grow restless waiting, were able to enter the classroom thanks to the use of the Professor's unlocking spell. Lorin hurried to his place at his desk and drew out his wand, eager to learn some magic. His eyes pulsed over the lock and the boy took aim with his wand, having listened carefully to the Professor's instruction as to the spell and its pronunciation. "Alohomora!" Lorin tried, not even half expecting much for his first attempt at the spell. He could see how very useful such a charm could be.. Once mastered. Lorin tried again. And again. Finally, on his fourth try, the padlock sounded a loud 'click' and snapped open. He'd done it! "Brilliant!" Lorin beamed, ready now to attempt the opposite spell. He began muttering 'Colloportus' beneath his breath in repetitive manner until he felt fully sure of the pronunciation. Now he could give that charm a go. "Colloportus!" he cried out, sending a dagger of magic forth from his wand. The lock shuddered angrily but snapped shut with another loud 'click'. The Ravenclaw continued this back-and-forth practice of both Charms until the Professor finally dismissed the class, at which point Lorin packed away both lock and wand, wanting to get in further practice later. |

This week there was a buzz going throughout the castle, one that could only be brought on after a weekend of Quidditch. Even though it had been a few days ago Iason was still on a high after Slytherin winning their first Quidditch game of the year and hopefully not the last. It had been a long game and he had saved more goals than he could have imagined so he was more than happy with his performance. Although there as no rest for the wicked as he was back trying to get a least some practice in every day as the next game would be here sooner than he expected and he didn't want to get big headed and be sluggish in his next game. Taking the day on with full force he was up early and probably a bit more energetic than somebody should be so early in the morning before class but Iason had always been excited about classes. After breakfast he made his way to the classroom and was surprised to see that Professor Killian and the rest of the class were all standing outside the room, maybe they would be going somewhere today? Iason waited until the rest of the class arrived and Professor Killian started the lesson. Of course once Iason heard the student say that the door was locked Iason rolled his eyes, figuring that they would be learning the unlocking charm today, it was the only thing that made any sense really. When the Professor opened the door Iason entered the room with the rest of the students and took his seat. Listening to Professor Killian, Iason took out his wand and waited until they were given the go ahead to try out the spell for themselves. Placing the lock in front of him, he cleared his head so he could focus himself. Pointing his wand at the lock he took a deep breath and said, Alohomora nothing happened. He let out a small groan, wanting nothing more than to actually do a spell on the first try. So once again pointing his wand, he said Alohomora this time, there was a sound of clanks of metal. Iason tried the lock and it opened. He was somewhat pleased with himself. So this time when he pointed the wand at the lock he said Colloportus. Again, unsurprisingly, nothing happened. Clearing his throat once again he said Colloportus. Iason heard the familiar sound of the clanking pieces of metal from within the lock. Confirming the lock was indeed lock Iason practised a few more times until class was over. Placing his lock in his bag for practice he left the room. |

Charms certainly was Donald's favourite class, he was very good at it and it was his strongest area of magic. The 12 year old was approached the classroom and was slightly confused by the professor being outside the room, with a few pupils gathered around him. Was something wrong? Maybe some pixies or something had occupied the classroom and it was too dangerous for them to enter, or maybe the professor had lost the key for the door? The young boy watched as his friend Lorin tried to open the door, but to no avail. The professor had apparently locked it to teach them a charm for opening locked doors, and another one for locking them. This should be useful he thought to himself, smiling. This was another reason why Donnie loved charms, it always taught the most useful of spells, unlike some of the other classes. The 2nd year walked over to his usual desk and drew his wand, preparing to use the magic that the professor had just demonstrated to them. Now, what was that word again?....Ah yes Donald raised his wand "Alohomora" he said, however the lock only twitched a bit. Don frowned, slightly disappointed that he didn't get it right. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, before refocusing. "Alohomora!" Success! The lock fell away from the desk and he was able to open it. The youngster picked up the lock and grinned a bit, before placing it back. "Colloportus!" a wave of magic left his wand causing the lock to click back shut. The quidditch subsitute grinned at his success. If only I was this good at transfiguration he thought to himself, but now wasn't the time for him to think about his failures, but rather concentrate on his current success. The young lad kept practicing and practicing until the class was dismissed. Since the professor had said they were allowed to keep the padlocks, Donald took his. He could use it tonight to continue his practice of the spell. |
