Professor Spenser entered the classroom, running slightly late. He saw that most of the students were there already; and as he sat at the desk, quickly looking over his notes, the rest entered. He smiled and stood up, moving in front of her desk to her usual spot before the class. "Welcome back! I read over all of your assignments and am happy to get to know all of you. I am sure we will get along just fine, and I thank you all for taking them time to fill them out. Now, I would like for all of you to take out your quills and some parchment. I am going to give you a very brief lecture and I would like you to take notes." Jonathan walked between the desks as she continued. "If we go way back, to the beginning of when witches and wizards were first mentioned in history, you will always wind up in the Medieval times. Does anyone know who the most famous wizard of that time is?" He paused and looked around, his eyes setting on a young student with their hand up. "Go ahead," he said, nodding encouragingly. The student replied, "It's Merlin, right?" Jonathan smiled and nodded. "You are absolutely right. Well done." Taking a note of the student who answered, Jonathan continued to pace and continued his lecture. "Yes, Merlin was the wizard who worked for King Arthur and his father before him. Did you know, however, that Merlin also had a hand in raising the future King? King Arthur was originally put up for adoption when he was just a baby and Merlin found him a foster father and there young Arthur stayed. He also had a half-sister who was named Morgan La Fey. At a young age he unsheathed the sword in the classic sword and the stone tale. I wonder, though, as you all have heard this story I'm sure, if you know that this is a true story. Back in that time that was considered to be a test of strength and power. I won't tell you too much more, but I would like to let you all know that this is all very important and I would make sure to keep all the facts for the exam at the end of the semester." he smiled again at the students, and continued making sure to mind the time. "Right, well, I don't want to cut this lesson as close as I did the last lesson, so I am going to end there. For homework tonight, I would like for all of you write an essay on either King Arthur, Merlin, or the Medieval times. This will be due before next week. "A History of Magic" is an excellent source. You can find this book in the Library." Homework Assignment: RP: 10 Essay: EC I would like an essay on King Arthur, Merlin, or the Medieval times. I would like no less than 150 words and please no more than 500 words on this. I would also like a link to your resources, please. There is also a book called "History of Merlin" available at the library. You also have the option to RP the lesson, taking notes, your thoughts on the lecture and so on for extra credit. Also, first poster, please answer my question. Have a great week! |

Rhys sat in his usual seat in the room, staring at the roof. He was bored, and would have much preferred to be outside and on a quidditch pitch. It had been an overly average day, and Rhys hadn't slept much the night before with the impending quidditch game. It would be his first game, and he was worried about it. Truth be told, he was only an alternate, but if a player game off injured, he would be straight in and this time he could be playing any position. However, he had been hoping that that wouldnt be the case. As the Professor started speaking, Rhys remembered that he hadn't yet pulled his things out of his bag. Doing so now, he placed his writing equipment on the table and opened his note pad. He also placed his 'A History Or Magic' book on the desk. Listening intently for the first time today, he grinned to himself as they broach a familiar subject. As a child, he had heard and read all about King Arthur. "Its Merlin, right?" Rhys answered the Professor before scribbling a tonne of notes down into his book. He considered to himself for a moment the irony of Merlin. Before Rhys had ever known about magic or wizards, Merlin had just seemed like a myth to him. A story made up by older people centuries past. For once, when the Professor handed out their homework, Rhys was actually keen to do it.

Marc was his usual self when entering class. He was one of the last ones in again and it just seemed like a regular lesson. Getting out his parchment & quill, he sat on a desk on his own and get comfortable. He was ready for the teacher to ramble on about how history will affect the future or something stupid like that. The entire subject seemed pointless to him but alas, he had to attend. He took small notes and doodled a picture of Merlin punching Arthur in the face whilst saying You will become king!. It made him chuckle for a second and sought to his amusement. The lesson seemed to go by very slowly for him to the point where he was trying to find other things to occupy his mind. However Marc was still paying attention but it was only the bare minimum. The lesson finally came to a close with the news of homework. Just shrugging it off, he walked out the room and saw a familiar face. He greeted them with a smile and proceeded with them to the Great Hall. Edited by Marcus King, Mar 14 2014, 05:50 AM.

For someone so fond of being alone Saffron had managed to make a collection of people she knew. She had gotten to know her room mates through she was still holding out judgement on whether or not she liked them or not. She had gotten to know a few of the Slytherin boys, a few Ravenclaw, a Gryffendor that got on her nerves but still was entertaining enough for her not to curse her on the spot and one Hufflepuff that had some potential to become useful to her in the future if she ever needed someone psychotic. With this in mind Saffron walking into the History of Magic classroom and took her usual spot but was now surrounded by people she knew. This time by Rhys and Marc who she assumed she was forcing to sit up in the front with her because he didn't seem like the type who would do it on his own. Well at least not in History of Magic. Saffron busied herself with taking out the class text, which now looked well warn, and her quill and parchment to start taking notes. Professor Spencer wasn't there at the moment she had some time to listen to conversation around her, even taking part in it a bit seeing as people talked to her. She was the first the quiet when the professor finally made it. His lateness mas made up, in her book, by the face that they where going over the middle ages, one of the most interesting times she could think of though they didn't take the place of the Salem Witch Trails in her mind. She listened the moment Professor Spencer started talk and once again was one of the first with her hand up when he asked a question. "It's Merlin, right?" she asked to make it appear like she too was capable of second guessing herself mostly for a bit of self entertainment. For the rest of the time she had her head down over her notes and being careful to get every word down. With her notes and the text she was sure that she would outstrip everyone come the final exam. They where three weeks in but Saffron had been thinking about finals the moment she set foot in class. There was the slightest hint of a scowl on her face when the class was cut short but she finished up the last of her notes and placed the highlighter mark on the corner of the page that marked it clearly as History of Magic notes. She packed up her things and sulked off into one of the few secluded corners she had found so she could start that day's assignment.

The last History of magic class for Avie had not exactly been the best class. he had found the whole lecturing side of things entirely boring, and this had sort of lead him down the path where he had simply fallen asleep. Which he really hoped would not happy again, since it was still early in the term, and while Avie was not so interested in the classes and such he was still sure that he needed to show face a little more than he currently was. Which was why he was even still forcing himself to go to the classes. Forcing himself up and out of bed. Making his way around the dorm room gathering up clean enough clothes and getting dressed for the day ahead. He was still sort of hopeful that the classes might pick up, and that he might get a little more interest in them, but there was little guarantee of this. Even at home, he had not been entirely studious, so it was fairly ridiculous to expect that he would be like this in a place when the classes were not exactly more of a choice, but he just made it so, by not really attending. Making his way to the room, the boy walked with the book out and open at what he sort of remembered the previous lesson being on. This was a small struggle since it was still pretty hard for him to even be able to read most of what was written. Though he had noticed a small amount of improvements. He just didn't take as long getting through a paragraph and did spend a lot of time reading out loud, but it was all in the name of improvement. Sitting down in his usual spot the lesson got underway. Avie listened to what the professor was saying, but grew bored fairly quickly. He knew that this was important. That he should be interested in the first clear wizard of history and his story, but Avie was not. And just took to pretending to take notes, instead was really just making dents on the parchment with the ink-less quill. He zoned out pretty easily and only came back to it, when the professor appeared to be wrapping up his lesson. Finishing it earlier than the last time, but also giving them homework. Avie made a mental note of what it was, but this didn't actually mean he was going to do it. |

Esme was looking forward to the upcoming History of Magic class, after the previous lesson on the Salem Witch Trials, a subject she was familiar with, she thought the class would be one she had an edge over the other students with. Though she'd been exhausted, the general history had been interesting enough to keep her attention, some of its contents even being new information to her. Things she'd skipped over during her life at the town. But what stood out most was the Muggle's treatment toward each other, which horrified her while at same time, causing a sway her view on the race more negatively than it was originally. Sure, she'd grown up in a family where blood status was a large issue and those who were non-magical were looked down upon, but she herself hadn't cared too much, especially after meeting a Muggle-born student who didn't appear to be too bad. Then again, perhaps that was just due to her magical gain. Esme entered the room, more rested than before and enthused for the lesson. She took a seat, hanging her bag from the back of the chair as the Professor, slightly late, walked in, instructing them to take out their writing equipment. Esme complied, quill ready in hand as Spencer went into the days topic. Her heart sank as the subject did not appear to continue from the last lesson, instead moving onto Arthurian history. She frowned. Maybe we'll revisit the topic at a later date. The girl thought with a shrug of her shoulders. Her quill scratched against parchment as the lesson progressed, taking the odd note here and there. Like the last lesson, it seemed to end prematurely. Esme furrowed her eyebrows in irritation. That hadn't been much at all. Annoyed, she packed her things and left the classroom, quickly heading to the Library to borrow A History of Magic, figuring if the professor couldn't give her much information, it could.
