James had a cup of coffee in one hand and his book in the other as he paced about the class waiting for his fourth years to arrive. When they did they would find that all of their desks had been replaced with a small team of practice dummies from the dueling chambers. The dummies were a little worn around the edges but had been a normal sight with in the class room over the last couple of years. As a charms professor he was not required to teach the students any dueling spells but found that a few spells here and there often lifted the spirits of his class each year. Learning how to clean, change the color of, or even levitate things could be a bit boring to a child from the magical world who saw most spells of this caliber around there homes growing up, but to a child raised on the muggle side of the world it would all be rather fascinating. So with that said he had to offer a little bit of something for all of his students. A cough alerted him the presence of several children walking in and so with a reluctant sigh he closed his book and took a long swig of his coffee as he waited for everyone to gather in the center of the room. “As you can all see, today lesson will be one that requires the use of practice dummies. Most of you should be familiar to all of those who have taken charms one through four with me. For those of you who have not you should have used these dummies in Defense Against the Dark Arts or the Dueling chamber. While you all may be familiar with these dummies what you are not aware of are the enchantments placed on them. These dummies have several spells on them that when attacked will try to defend themselves with a very simple stun spell.” The muffled murmurs of the class began to grow in noise as the professor stepped forward and drew his wand. With a flick of his wand he cast a charm at the dummy which glowed a deep green before raising its magical arm sending a spell fly toward the attack. James of course was aware of this response and so with ease cast protego before lowering his wand. A small around of applause filled the small space as he waved the class back to a quiet state. “to prevent yourself from being stunned you will be in need of a dual purpose charm. The confundus charm is a confusion charm that is difficult for most wizards to perform without focus. If you took charms year three then you are familiar with the importance of focus. An unfocused mind is the down fall of most wizards and it is only with intent to change something does a spell truly blossom. As you are all too young to perform this spell in its entirety you will be able to cause your opponent to become unsure of themselves and their whereabouts in short burst of time. True masters of this charm can alter the targets mind to greater extents that include complete memory loss and alteration of what truly happened in any event. The only way to undo this is with the unique skills of medical wizard or a licensed oblivator. In fact most oblivator use this charm on a regular basis, so keep that in mind for all those here aspiring to become one of the these skilled professionals.” James said as he circled the group with a warm yet serious look on his face. “The proper incantation for this charm is Confundo and should be used with the point and flick method of spell casting. When I give the word you all may take your time practicing the incantation and clearing your mind before stepping up to one of the dummies. Be prepared once you raise your wand the dummies are set to launch a spell if too much time passes. If the wrong spell is cast or a weak spell then it will be rebound upon you the caster so for the sake of this lesson let’s stick to the approved charms. If stunned the effects will last a few moments before fading but it will not be the most pleasant sensation. I will be around if you need help or medical attention and once you have performed the spell twice, you will be free to go. Oh and one more thing, if successful the dummy will throw both of its arms up and quiver before relaxing back to its waiting state. “ James said as he set his class to work. Making his round he helped in proper pronunciation, wand movement , as well as helping those who were struggling more than others. Once most of the students where done he released them with a warm smile and a reminder about reading the next chapter in their school books. Once the class was empty he finished his coffee and turned on the radio for a bit as he waited for the next class to mossy on in. Sage was enjoying herself, while she had a lot of work to do, she didn't really do it, and she didn't give much thought to it in reality. She just sort of did it when she felt like it. Which maybe wasn't the best way to go about classes, but it was the only way she was going to do it. Happily the teen was finding that with this minimal effort and stress, she always eventually got the work done before the time. And this was really what was meant to happen. She didn't need to do much more than what was minimally required of her. Which was a happy thing. She found herself smiling and also found that she just felt better. This was good, since Sage was not a fan of stressing out, and she was not a fan of pressure from exams. She was in the process of reaching her own personal balance which allowed her to just perfectly achieve what she wanted. The young girl was excited in a way to be going to the second week of classes. She knew that they'd actually do some work in these classes, and that really was always a good thing. Not doing any work was sort of a massive let down. Considering she'd gone to the effort of going to the class. The charm classroom was empty upon Sage's arrival, so she was quickly able to get her seat, and just wait for the professor to begin his lesson. Sage had always somewhat enjoyed charms, it was spell casting and it was relatively simple. It didn't take too long for the rest of the students to appear and for the professor to get underway with his lesson. She took out her quill, ink and parchment and began to slowly take notes along with what the professor was saying. She wasn't going to write any quicker than she really needed to. But, soon the professor was telling them, that they'd be practicing the spell he was talking about, which was good. Sage liked practicing spells. She took her wand, and repeated the word, with her dummy in front of her, she cleared her mind and with what she wanted the spell to do to the dummy, she spoke, "Confundo" the spell shot from her wand and hit the dummy square on. She smiled as it work, and then, did the spell a few more times, until they were instructed to leave. She gladly grabbed her belongings and left. |
