Second year was considerably more difficult than first year as the professors all expected a lot more from their students. The charms that the second years would be asked to perform this year were more complex than before and emphasis on proper wandmanship as well as pronunciation would be prominent. This year the students would learn spells more commonly found in the house hold variety such as spells used to unlock doors, clean up mess, repair broken Objects, and to create flames . All in all it would a year of rather practical magic and though not entirely offensive the importance of such spells will be hard to miss. Standing at the front of the room he waited patiently for the second years to settle in and made note that they did not waste as much time quieting down which he pleased by as he jumped into the lesson without hesitation.

Hello Second years, my name is James Killian and for those who are new to my class you may refer to me as Professor Killian or Professor Jamie. This year is going to be more difficult than last year as the learning curve for you all has increased somewhat as you no longer need to focus as much time on wandmanship as before but you will be expected to simply understand the wand movements for the term. On top of that the spells you will be learning this year will be more practical and slightly more complex than last year spells. You should also understand the rules for the class as they have not changed since last year. If you have forgotten then you may check out the rules on the poster in the back of the class. With that said I want to see how well you have memorized the spells taught last year. For the remainder of the class I want you to practice any of the spells I have on the board. I will be around to help you were is needed but other than that you have no homework for the night other than to study up on the spells I put on the board above last year’s spells.” James said as he motioned for the students to stand up as he waved his wand about causing all the desks to push up against the wall as several dummies and first year levitating feather appeared around the room. Today he just wanted to get the students once more into the swing of charms to brush off the rust that has grown on their skills since last class.

He then moved about the room introducing himself to those who had not met before while helping a few students with proper posture and pronunciation. When the bell sounded he dismissed the class before putting the class back in order for the next class of the day. It seemed the students in the second year were equally as skilled as those in the first year. What an exciting semester this term promised to offer, he smiled inwardly as the next class entered the class causing him to once more focus on the task at hand.

As sunlight poured through the gleaming windows of the Ravenclaw tower dormitories, a mop of dark hair began to stir: It shifted itself from side to side, wriggling back down as far beneath the covers as it could, melting away into the comfortable bedsheets until, at last, it rose again. This time a child emerged with it, his two blinking eyes dazzled by the morning glare. What time was it? The thought crossed his mind but for a moment before the small ticking clock perched atop the side table confirmed a joyful notion; there was one more hour to be had before the boy need even dream of rising from his bed. Now that made a most pleasant turn of events.

The morning having calmly swam by in a pool of cool energy, Lorin Finch arrived at his first Charms lesson of the year. He seated himself in the exact same spot as he had done the previous year, and awaited the Professor's plan of action for the day's class. He did not, thankfully, have to wait long.
When the Professor had finished informing them of the lesson plan, Lorin stood and watched keen-eyed as the furniture was shifted to make way for several practice dummies. Feathers began to appear on desk tops and Lorin's spine gave a tingle of delight. He drew forth from his pocket the much trusted wand he had learned to love and cast with, and found himself a space to begin his practice.

Feathers rose and sailed through the air, some settling elegantly back to their places on desks. Lorin beckoned one such feather with the summoning spell. "ACCIO!"
The Ravenclaw commanded the feather to his grasp and so it obliged. "Wingardum Leviosa!" He added, flicking his wand and instructing the feather to float upwards. "Finite! Depulso!" The feather dropped back towards Lorin's outstretched palm but never made the full trip back before it was intercepted by his banishing spell, at which the delicate item was tossed angrily back across the room towards the desks.
Lorin turned his attention to a brief session of lighting up his wand and putting it out again, whiling away the waiting time for the dummies.

Once the queue had thinned, Lorin stepped forth and began his practice. He disarmed one dummy not once, but three times in a row. His banishing charm did even better job of disarming the practice dummy in the most literal sense, offering up the opportunity to test out the second year spell for repairing. It took a fair few tries to grasp the concept, but the boy grew dangerously close to perfecting it. In the end, Professor Killian approached and fixed the model to its previous good standard.
Finally, after a little further charm work in which Lorin unintentionally misplaced one eyebrow and dyed his eyelashes white, the lesson came to an end. The Professor went round the class restoring order where required, before dismissing the students to further their studies and allow them the chance to practice in a more calm and quiet environment. Lorin decided to leave the practical side of Charms for a few more hours, in favour of bettering his literal knowledge of the study.

Toas entered the Charms classroom quietly, and took a seat beside some Ravenclaw he did not know. The Slytherin was sick of people by now, and Slytherins were some of the worst. It seemed that the majority had some sort of problem with something, and while Tommy had many problems with may things, he was not in the habit of complaining about it to people, or teasing others because he was incapable of finding something better to do with his time. He wanted to hang out with Victoria, because she was fun, and she wasn't a total idiot like some of the people he had been forced to live with both at school and home. He sighed, knowing that it was only going to get worse with the knowledge that this holidays would be filled with him meeting the rest of his family. He did not like it.

The Slytherin unpacked his belongings and looked at the professor. He was really, really young. Or he just looked young. Tommy watched as the professor introduced himself to the class, in case they did not know him, and jumped right into teaching them. Which was fortunate, as Tomas hated it when professor's seemed to enjoy wasting the precious time they were given to teach their students. He ran through what was expected of them this year, and Tommy simply nodded to it all. They were twelve and thirteen, he wasn't sure why so much was expected of them so quickly, but if everyone else before him could do it, Tomas was confident he could. And if anyone had managed to 'forget' the classroom rules, Tommy really hoped that the professor would kick them out or something. Really, there was no time for stupidity.

Tommy looked at the board with the list of spells. He remembered most of the first year spells, he probably used them a little too much. He could not wait until he was seventeen and able to use magic without having to use the cover of magical adults in the house. The house was going to be crawling with people soon, and Tommy wanted out before he managed to hate them. He sighed as he stood up, not wanting to have to get up from his seat. The desks were moved, and Tommy looked at the professor, then at the board. He also recognised most of the second year spells, as members at home used them regularly. Especially Reparo, stuff was always breaking. He flourished his wand, knowing what he had to do. He looked at the feathers. "Accio." One down, loads more to go it seemed. "Wingardum Leviosa," he said, with the gesture, and caused another feather to levitate. "Finite." The feather dropped to the desk.Tommy called for this feather, and levitated it one more time, before, "Depulso." Tommy then stepped up to the line for the dummies, and aimed his wand, before disarming one. "Expelliamus." He knew the first year charms, but he knew that he would have to do some work on the second year charms. Then again, that was what class was for. He left when the class cameto an end, finding it to have been an interesting lesson.
