James Killan entered the Charms classroom before any of his first year students had arrived with a cup of tea in one hand and a romance novel in the other. Today was the first day of the new semester as well as the first lesson of charms that the new batch of Hogwarts students would take. Oh how he could remember back when he had taken his first charm lesson, how he never in a million years would believe that he would be teaching the class years later as a professor himself. Sitting down at his desk he read another chapter in his book as it was starting to get to the really exciting part where all the drama not to mention the unforeseen plot twist was unfolding. Today was the introductory lesson of the year and as such he was more than prepared for the class as he lounged back in his chair and sipped his tea. The work load would be small though there was a lot of lecturing that would take place before they could get to any of the fun stuff. He knew all too well that most professors for the first week of lessons would be taking it easy on the students much too their misfortune as lecture after lecture seemed never ending. It was a necessary evil much to the same effect that homework would be required for the class if any of the students hoped to pass his class for the semester. Closing his book and putting it in his desk he waited as students were going to be filing into the class ready to learn. Taking another sip of his tea he was about ready to get the day started as he waved his wand at the windows, which caused the curtains to open, and another at the door causing it to open as well he stood at the front of the class as he waited for the kids to arrive. He of course did not have much time to wait as the eager first years were rather prompt in getting to their first lesson; once everyone was in he gave his wand another flick causing the door to close slowly as he placed his drink on the table. James stood with a smile on his face as he scanned the room and made note of the number of student in his class that had arrived on time as well as where everyone was sitting. He was not a fan of assigned seating but he found that most students sat in the same general area for the entire semester. Assigned seating in his eyes did not change how well a student did in class but rather it made it far more difficult to keep them focus as the excitement of gossiping and sharing in the experience made the students more focused. At least that was the case in his most humble opinion, he was a young professor and so he did not yet have the rigidity structure that his older colleagues had which would make his lessons a bit unconventional at times. "Good Day, my name is Professor James Killian, though you can address me as Professor Jamie or Professor Killian if you would like. I am your charms professor for years one through four. From years five on ward you will be in the capable hands of your other charms professor whose name you will find out when the time comes" James said as he began to pace up and down the aisles of his classroom as he found the process of pacing allowed him to be heard by all not to mention forced the students focus on him at all times."I graduated from Beauxbaton Academy in 2033 though I did attend Hogwarts for my first year of school. To those of you who are curious I was sorted into the house of Gryffindor. Afterwards I joined the ministry as a committeeman on experimental charms before being offered the charms teaching position here at the school." Pausing for a moment he looked around, pride was visible on his face but only just. "Now, that's all for my introduction, I would like each of you to tell me your name, your house, and a little something about yourself that others might find interesting , maybe what you look forward most to being a wizard or a witch. You can start," he said with a clap of his hands as he rubbed them together excitedly before pointing to a student in the front of the room. After the first child was done he went around the room and had everyone stand up and speak to be fair on all. It took some longer than others to introduced themselves and share a tidbit of information, it was not easy to get up in front of a room of strangers and share something about yourself. He learned a lot about his students and overall was impressed as he laughed and cheered on all of those willing to blossom a little in the social setting. Once everyone was done it was time for him to go over the general rules and expectations with them so they understood how the class would run from here on out. "Well done guys and girls. I look forward to learning more about you over the next four year and I hope you will learn a lot about me. So now let's get the boring stuff out of the way shall we so that we can get to all the fun stuff. Rules. The rules are pretty simple and won't change any over the next couple of years so please pay attention. You may take notes if you wish, but they are posted on a poster in the back of the room for all of you to check out whenever you get the time," James said as he turned to the board and waved his wand. On the board the rules appeared causing a few students to mutter excitedly as some were hoping to see some magic for the first lesson of the semester. "Rule One: Listen to what I say at all times. Guys your safety is number one to me and I don't want anyone to get hurt in my class this year. We will be learning some spells that if you do not pay attention you can cause yourself or someone else harm. Rule Two: Do not talk when someone else is talking. It's rude and you guys are so above that in my eyes. Rule Three: Don't be afraid to ask questions. It's better that you ask questions then just assume you know the answer when you really have no idea what you're talking about. Rule Four: Bring your wand to every class; you never know when we will need it for a lesson. Rule Five: Have all materials needed, textbook, ink and quill, parchment. And finally Rule six: Complete the Homework which I assign you. I know homework is cruel and unusual punishment but it is required for my class if you hope to pass with flying colors."
He felt the class was getting fidgety. Looking at the clock he noted that the class was almost over and there was not a lot of time left to teach them a spell this week. "Well, class is just about over, so I will dismiss you early. Come into class next week ready to learn your first charm of the year. Lumos! It should prove to be enlightening. Go ahead and read up on the spell for next lesson if you will in your text book and I will see you all around. " James said causing a few students to groan at his bad joke as he sent the class off for the day without any homework this week. It was just wrong to give homework on the first day and so he would let them rest and relax before going full tilt next lesson. Once everyone cleared out he sat back down and began to drink his tea as he waited for the next class to roll in. Assignment: Roleplay the Lesson Total Points possible: 10 Extra credit: 0 |

Maya looked in the mirror and made sure she looked presentable. She didn't want anyone to think she couldn't take care of herself. She grinned at herself and flicked her hair over her shoulder. Today, it was in a simple ponytail. Her naturally curly hair working to her advantage. Well, it wasn't really curly, just really wavy. She liked her hair anyway, despite the fact that she was basically an albino next to the rest of her family. People sometimes didn't believe her when she told them they were related. Her mother especially did not look much like her. She was much darker then Maya. But Maya didn't mind being different. As it turns out, she wasn't only different in appearance. She had to wonder though, whose side of the family was the magic from. She assumed it was her father. Walking down the stairs and out of the common room, Maya made her way down to the third floor and into the Charms classroom. Her wand was in her hand even before she sat down and she looked up at the Professor ready for the lesson to start. She couldn't even believe that she was in a class where she was actually going to be learning spells! It was all so surreal. She was still trying to comprehend it all. The professor started the class and spoke a little about himself. Apparently he was a Gryffindor and also went to a place called Beauxbatons. That was nice. Beauxbatons sounded like a strange name. Of course, so did Hogwarts, especially when you consider that Maya went to a school called Glenside Primary School. That was what was normal to her. The professor mentioned that they should introduce themselves and when Maya was called up she immediately forgot everything about herself. But she grinned at her classmates and professor and carried on anyway. "Uh, hi! I'm Maya Corby. I'm in Hufflepuff, I guess y'all would know that from my robes. Uh... something about me? I guess I could tell you that I am half aboriginal, believe it or not, most people don't but my mother was aboriginal, born on a reservation in Alice Springs. Seriously. Okay, imma sit down now!" Maya sat back down and listened as her peers all spoke about themselves. Maya smiled but was disappointed as she realised that they wouldn't actually be learning any spells today. She sighed slightly and pulled her bag onto her shoulder, before she left however, she walked over to the professor and smiled. "Um, hi... I don't know anything about magic. Nothing at all, I'm something called a muggleborn? But anyway, is there anyway for me to catch up, I don't really understand how this school works or anything. Could you help?" After hearing the teachers response, Maya nodded and left the room. |

Victoire had really enjoyed the last lesson, while it had not been much in the way of learning, just seeing the room gave her a much better feel for what the class was actually going to entail. She had been unsure about a lot of things, that now seemed just that little bit more clear. Having never been around magic she was unsure as to how important this all would be to later magical careers, which had now opened themselves up to Victoire. She wasn't sure what she would be doing with her life after this. Before the plan had been simple. Primary, High school, university, under graduate degree, post grad, and then doctorate. She was unsure as to if she could follow the same path here. If there were any universities that were for studying magic. If so, or if not, Victoire was pondering it. It was what had filled her young mind as she had gone to bed that night, and had been the first few thoughts that she had had when she had awoken the next morning, that and a tiredness that felt overwhelming. In the time that she had been living in Australia, Victoire had not been made to attend school, so not only had she really had an extended holiday, but she hadn't had to get up early at all during it. Now, it was another day of classes that she had to be up early for. However, after spending a good few moments gathering herself to be able to get up, the girl got quickly ready, throwing on the still clean uniform from the previous day. She tied her hair up in a messy bun, and used the ribbon to attempt to make the hair stay in place, though it never did. Her mother was never completely unjustified in calling her hair unruly. The lesson of the day was charms, and so the girl made sure to place her wand into her bag before leaving the dorm room. She headed down the many steps and to the Charms classroom, which she had also learned where it was, due to the fact she'd been attempting to find the library but had turned up empty. The class itself was not busy when the girl arrived, and so Victoire was able to get a spot that was front and centre of the room, the perfect place for her. Since with so little magical background she was determined to in a sense catch up to others who were born in magic, and just because all of these new subjects were incredibly interesting to her. It didn't take long for the rest of the class to appear and the professor then began his lesson. He seemed nice, not as strict as the last professor, though still not the kind of class that would be easy to mess around in. He started by introducing himself and also how he came to be teaching at this Hogwarts. Then he motioned to the girl she was sitting beside to also get up and introduce herself. Clearly he wanted everyone to do it. Victoire wondered what to say, and hoped that her accent wouldn't mean that no one actually understood what she was saying. Once the other girl had sat down, Victoire got up and stood at the front. She cleared her throat, and took a deep breath, "My name is Victoire Oceane Fontaine" Victoire couldn't help but slip into french when she said her name. It was a habit, and it was a french name. "I'm a gryffindor, and as you can probably tell, I am not from la Nouvelle Zélande, I am also not from France. I am from Charleroi, in the French speaking region of Belgium which is called Wallonia." With that, she was sure that she'd included something interesting, so she smiled at the class and then sat back down in her seat, and the rest of the class went up each one at a time and introduced themselves. The professor then went on to explain the rules to them, and once that was done, he appeared to wrap up the lesson. Clearly today they would not be learning any spells, but the girl was hardly disheartened, she heard him say they'd be learning Lumos next week. Which Victoire was incredibly excited about, and not just because she'd actually already learned it, thanks to Perseas. The girl gathered her belongs and then left the classroom. Keen to do something else with her day. |

Rolling out of bed wasn't the hardest part of the day. Kylar could never get his hair to stay where he needed it. It never, no matter how hard he tried, would stay put. After a few minutes he gave up, like he always did. He then reached into his wardrobe and pulled out his robes. As he walked out of his dorm, he paused halfway through the door. He then immediately turned back around. He got to his bed and knelt down on one knee, and propped his hand up on the top of his bed. He then quickly reached under his bed and retrieved his school books. "I'm always forgetting something." Kylar stated as he darted for the door once more. Finally, he was out into the halls and on his way to his next class. This would have been his second class so far. He had no knowledge of the witch and wizardry world, and his first class wasn't so bad. But he knew they weren't all gonna be the same, and he would have to adjust to each one individually. This time he knew exactly where his class was, and wasn't planning on being late. The door to the classroom was now in eye sight. Many of the class mates he had seen from his other class where piled at the door. Right before he reached the small group, the began to rush in like water leaving a funnel. He decided to "funnel" in too. He set his eyes on a seat in the back, in hopes he'd be hidden from everyone else. Nonetheless, he was ready to learn. All he knew, was the name of the class, and that was about it. He really needed to find someone that knew about this wizard stuff. He approached his chair and sat down. The professor than shut the door, with magic of course. About that time, Kylar's attention was solely on the professor. He listened closely as the professor introduced himself. It was also warming to know that he was from the same house Kylar was sorted into, by that scary looking hat. This laid Kylar's nerves at rest. But right around that time, he had also mentioned them standing up and introducing their selves. Now Kylar's nerves went haywire. He watched patiently as they went around the class room. He was dreading his turn to stand up, and began sweating like he always did in these types of situations. The teacher then pointed at Kylar, and he felt like he was going to pass out. Kylar slowly stood up, almost falling over. "Myy nammes, Kylar. I'm a gryffindor." Kylar paused for a brief moment to catch his breath. "I'm frooom Italy....Imperia...Italy." Kylar knew that being from Italy was weird. Why come to New Zealand. Maybe something conflicted with him going anywhere else. Kylar sat down, hoping he had said enough, so he could. He didn't want to offend Professor Killian, but he didn't want to be the eyes of attention either. Apparently it was enough, because he continued on. He sat patiently, waiting for class to be over. Kylar began looking over the rules carefully; making a mental note of each one. He was going to apply all these rules, to all his classes. Finally the teacher had mention something about a charm, and then class was over. Kylar didn't hesitate, he threw his books in his bag and to some extent...ran. Aya happily walked to her next class, confident in her stride and head held high. So far, her time at Hogwarts had been wonderful, already meeting people that she thought she could potentially get along with. Her first class had been a bit of a bore, but that was to be expected from the first day of classes. Even if it was boring, just being in the classes seemed to solidify that she was actually there even more, showed her that indeed she was learning to become a proper witch. It was exciting and terrifying all at once. This calss would be much of the same: a whole lot of rules that Aya would tune out and probably end up ignoring on multiple occasions. As long as she did well in the class, she didn't care. This was the class she wanted to be in however, and thought maybe she'd behave herself a bit better here than in other places. She chose a neutral seat right in the middle, not seeing Jarek or anyone else she recognized, and patiently waited for the lesson to start. This professor was much less intimidating then the Potions professor, and from first impressions she thought she might get along with him. That was, until, he began to call each student up to talk about themselves. All of a sudden Aya wanted to be anywhere else but there, watching students stand up and knowing that all eyes would be on her in a few moments. One on one interaction was one thing, but to have a whole class paying attention to you, that was a whole other matter. When her turn came she slowly stood up, casting nervous glances all around and biting her lip slightly. After a moment she realized how stupid she looked and put on a brave face, her expression going neutral as she said, "My name is Aya, Gryffindor, and I like to write." It was a cookie-cutter answer, she knew, but it got her through her introduction and she sat down again, fighting to keep the redness out of her cheeks. Slowly her heartbeat went down and she even managed to chuckle at the dumb joke Professor Killian had made. All in all, it hadn't been terrible, but she was still quick to leave once he had dismissed them, hoping that next time she wouldn't have to face the class again. |

Dwaide Lesley strolled into class. This was the one class he was most looking forward too. He knew that if he could learn all those spells he would be able to be the Doctor even easier. He could pretend to do things that the Doctor does. He could already break computers with just his magic, that was easy. He basically just had to be in the same room. His first piece of Accidental magic had been hilarious. He was about eighteen months old and he had turned Demeter's hair blue. Apparently it had taken her weeks to forgive him. He thought that was pretty funny. Turning his attention back to the professor, one had to appreciate his demeanour, he was pretty hard to ignore, that was sure, Dwaide continued to take down notes of what the professor was saying. He liked this Professor already, he seemed friendly and Dwaide was delighted to discover that he had been a Gryffindor, that was pretty cool, indeed. Dwaide was a Gryffindor too. Gryffindor's were the best, at least they were in his opinion. When they were asked to introduce themselves and talk a little about themselves, Dwaide listened to everyone as they introduced themselves and spoke a little about what they liked, well except that one Hufflepuff girl who seemed to need no air. She just kept talking about whatever it was she was talking about. She was speaking quite fast and in an accent that Dwaide didn't really recognise very much. Her accent was so weird. As it came to his turn, Dwaide stood up and looked around the room. He cleared his throat and then started to speak. "Hi, I'm Dwaide. I guess you should know my last name too, uh, its Lesley. And, uh, I like Doctor Who, its a muggle thing. Just incase you were wondering." Dwaide sat back down and leaned back in his chair before packing and getting ready to go. As he tossed all of his things in his bag he left the room. He yawned as he walked out and noticed that he was tired. Well, at least he could go to sleep now. |

Tabitha was really looking forward to charms. So all her lessons had been taught by some bog scary dude, and all they talked about was rules, and punishments. She hoped hoped hoped that today they would finally be able to cast a spell of some sort. It was unlikely, but you never know. Tabitha walked into the class room a little late. She had accidentally stayed at breakfast a little longer then she planned. Tabitha looked around the room, and was happy to see a seat open next to her friend, Kylar. She plopped down, and greeted him. Unfortunately they didn't get a chance to speak before the professor started class. The first thing Tabitha noticed about Professor Killian was that he was so much younger then all the other professors. He seemed a lot nicer too. Charms was quickly becoming her favorite class. When people started introducing themselves Tabitha shifted her full attention to them. What better way to get to know your class mates? When it got to Kylar's turn she looked over to him. She was surprised at how nervous he looked. Was he going to be okay? However she didn't have much time to worry about it as Kylar sat down as fast as he could, and Tabitha stood up. "Hi I'm Tabitha. I'm from Australia, and I love animals. I wasn't able to get a pet until now though because our apartment doesn't allow them. I got a rat, and his name is Henry." she told the class. She hoped it wasn't too much, but it was all she could think of on the spot. Tabitha sat back down, and listened as everyone finished up. Once class was over she turned to Kylar to see if he wanted to hang out, but he was already in a mad dash to get out of the room. 'That's weird...' Tabitha thought as she watched him run out. She would have to check up on him later. |

Jade bounced to the classroom, having taken only a few moments to quickly throw on her robes and brush through her hair before heading to class. It wasn't the one she was most excited for, but it was directly to do with magic, and that piqued enough of her interest. She chose a seat towards the front, tapping her fingers and looking around. She was about to start a conversation with the person next to her when the professor stood up and began to speak, and quite frankly she was enraptured. He graduated from another wizarding school she hadn't heard of, and wondered what that was like. Finally he gave the time over to the class for introductions, and she made careful note of the people who she thought were interesting, and felt a little bad for some of the more nervous people. When it came her turn she stood up and clasped her hands behind her back, a big smile on her face. "My name is Jade Tova, a proud Hufflepuff, and I absolutely love...herbology I think it's called here? Well gardening then in general," she rambled slightly before giving another winning smile and sitting down. She listened to the rules, making note of them, and was almost sad when he was done talking. All she wanted to do was head to another class, but there were breaks, and so it took her another little minute after they were dismissed before she packed up her stuff and left, excited for the next time they met. |

The biggest shock about Hogwarts for Jarek was not being away from his parents for the first time in his life, as he had expected. The biggest shock for him were the staircases, the hundreds of steps he had to climb to get anywhere. He was forever climbing staircases which moved as well! It was a shame that they only moved diagonally, if they worked like muggle escalators then Jareks life would be made a million times easier! Because of said staircases, Jarek arrived for Charms slightly out of breath and followed the last students into the classroom so it didn't look as if he was slightly late. He took one of the last seats and awaited the lesson. They had to introduce themselves to the class. Jarek looked around at his peers, he was not sure of the names of several of them so paid attention as one by one, a student gave their name and a little fun fact about themselves. And then it was Jareks turn. "Hi I'm Jarek." He gave a little wave to his peers, "I uh- am from New Zealand, from the Northlands to be more specific. And oh - my mum is amazing at Charms so I hope I've inherited her skill!" Jarek fell silent and moved his head in the direction of the next person to speak. Jarek wasn't afraid of public speaking but he could imagine that some people were, it was quite an awkward experience introducing yourself to a room full of people like that. No matter, Jarek was excited to start learning some proper magic! |

Hurrying to class, Rotem was ecstatic. He was on his way to the first class that he would probably start learning magic in. Dashing around corners, the first year made it to class just in time and hurriedly plunked himself down just as the bell rang. The professor then stood up and introduced himself as Professor Jamie. He told them that he graduated from Beauxbatons which caused Tem to cock his head quizzically. What was this... Beauxbatons? He guessed it must be another school for wizards. The professor then asked each of them to stand up, introduce themselves and say something about them. When it was Rotem's turn he shot out his desk with a dimpled smile. "Hiya! My name's Rotem I'm in Hufflepuff and I love to climb! Trees, fences, cliffs, buildings, you name it and I can probably climb it!" Sitting back down he listened to the rest of the class and then Professor Jamie started in on the rules. Expecting to be bored, Tem was surprised to see his teacher use magic to put them up on the board and let out a soft "wow" with a few other of the muggle born students. Normally he didn't pay attention to the rules, but he would remember these ones! When Professor Jamie glanced at the clock, Rotem followed his gaze and his heart sank when he saw that class was almost over. They wouldn't be doing any magic this week. Writing down the assignment to read the chapter on lumos, Rotem gathered up his things and when they were dismissed left for his next class. |

As the students were entering the classroom, Daniel was one of the last that came in. Dragging himself along, he eyed the teacher for a couple of seconds, before feeling relieved. Finally, a teacher that don't look old as a rock, and strict as that old lady from next door everyone had at least once in their life. He found a seat at the back of the class, as he dropped his stuff onto the floor, and waited for the lesson to start. As the introductions started, Daniel was grinning, as he found out a little from his fellow classmates. It was finally his turn to stand and shine. He stood up, and looked over at the class, before speaking. "Uh-.. Well, hello. My name is Daniel. I come from America, New Jersey. A small town called Piscataway. I never really knew about magic until I came to this school-.., So uh. Don't judge me. A few things about me-.. Uhm, I like music. And I like knives.. Pretty much it." He lowered himself down into the chair. He grinned at a couple of students that gave him a wierd look after he mentioned knives, but the awkwardness later cooled off. He was relived when he found out there is no homework. It was a good start for the day. |

Ariana was excited and anxious at the same time as she entered the classroom. She quickly found herself a seat and waited for the lesson to start. She had been reading her school books before hand and she had to admit charms was one of the classes she had been the most eager to learn more about. She looked around the other students. She listened intently as the professor introduced himself and then asked the class to do the same. She smiled as she learned more about her classmates and then it was her turn, standing up she took a deep breath before she started talking. "Hi hi, I'm Ariana Romanov and I am a Ravenclaw. I am from Sochi, Russia and moved to New Zealand two years ago. I'm into music and my mom was a spy before I was born and she has been training me in the art of espionage as long as I can remember. Oh, and I'm a muggleborn." She looked around the room as she took her seat again. She smiled at everyone before settling down and focused on the rest of class. When the class was dismissed she made her way slowly to the door. |
