Professor Spenser entered the classroom and found that none of his students had turned up yet. Grumbling to himself, he looked up at the big clock on the wall and realised that he was twenty minutes early for the lesson. Slightly embarrassed, Jonathan sat behind his great desk and opened up a very large, dusty volume of Magical History.

Exactly twenty minutes later the door burst open and the first few students walked in, talking excitedly amongst themselves. Jonathan nodded and smiled at all the students who entered. "Please take a seat anywhere," he said as he motioned to the room and all the desks.

Once the room was filled and she was sure that all the students were there, he walked around to the front of his desk and stood there, casually surveying all of the young people who sat before him. "Good morning!" he greeted, brightly. "My name is Professor Jonathan Spenser, but to all of you I am Professor Spenser. I will not respond to nor allow anyone to call me by my given name Jonathan. If you choose to break this rule, it will be on pain of torture or detention, whichever I prefer." He grinned at the class. Jonathan loved to stir up the students. It made the lessons slightly more interesting. "I will set a few guidelines now and I want all of you to memorise and apply every one of these rules. I am very sorry if this is boring, but I am afraid it is a requirement that I go through these with you. As I am all fairly certain you are able to read, I shall put these rules on the board for you, and whether or not you decide to copy them down is your choice. If you feel you need reminding as to how to behave, then I would strongly suggest copying them down." Jonathan waved his wand at the empty board at the front of the room and suddenly words appeared.
The Rules

1. All home work assignments will be turned in within the given deadlines. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!! (I will understand if you have a VERY good reason for an assignment being late, but I would appreciate it if you made the effort to turn your assignments in on time.)
2. Everyone in this classroom are old enough to take care of themselves, and no special allowances will be made for anyone.
3. Everyone in this classroom will be treated with respect; both by myself and by each of you. Disrespect will not be tolerated.
4. Everyone is to behave while in my class.
5. Everyone is to have fun! If anyone has any ideas or something they would be interested in learning more about, I would be more than happy to work with you to fit this in to a lesson.
Jonathan waited until he presumed that the students had finished reading, and then turned to the students again, with a smile on his face. He noticed several of them were frowning. "Don't worry, students, I am very easy to get along with, and I'm sure that not all of you find History of Magic to be an exciting subject. But it is my mission to make you all interested in learning more and expanding your minds while hopefully making it fun."

Jonathan glanced up at the clock. "Oh! I didn't realise what time it was!" he exclaimed. "Quickly everyone, look around at where you are sitting and who you are sitting next to. This will be your designated seating for the remainder of the year. What's your name?" He asked, pointing at a student sitting in the front row. When they introduced themselves, Jonathan gave them an encouraging smile. "Okay, could you please pass these around?" he asked, handing the student a stack of papers. Once he was sure that everyone had a copy he went on to explain what he wanted. "The papers you all have now is this weeks homework assignment. Please fill these out and hand them in before next week, this day. Thank you and everyone please have a wonderful week!" He smiled at all of the students, then, noticing that no one had gotten up yet she added, "Class dismissed."
Homework Assignment:

I would like all of you to fill this out. At the beginning of each homework assignment I would like everyone to head their paper with their name first, then on the second line put their house name and what year you are in, then I would like you to put what lesson it is. Here's an example:
Example

Professor Spenser
Staff House 1st Year
History of Magic, Lesson #1
Here's the lesson I would like you to fill out. This is simply a survey for me to get to know you better. There are no wrong answers!
Homework

1. Your full name
2. Your age
3. Are you Muggle, Pure blood, or what?
4. What are your interests?
5. Tell me a little bit about your family.
6. What would you like to learn in the upcoming lessons in History of Magic?
7. Any additional facts you would like to put down, put here.
Remember, this is not mandatory. But, if you do the homework, it will help your house out and it will be more beneficial for you in the long run!

Also, first student, please be the person to hand out papers in the class. There's extra credit in it for you!

[justify]The young slytherin groaned excessively loudly when his alarm went off that morning. He groaned for a much longer period of time than was necessary and while he was now in part awake. Snoozed the alarm, and just tried to continue sleeping. However, it appeared that no matter how tired he felt he could no longer just sleep. He was awake and this was probably a good thing, or he might've slept throw most of the morning and missed the class. Sighing, in an overly dramatic fashion, the boy attempted to open his eyes and sit up. But, in the end, he threw the covers mostly off his body and just slid out of bed and on to the floor. After which, with his eyes still closed he went to shower. This didn't get much better after that. His second alarm went off, and Avie rushed from the shower to switch it off. He was just in time, and by this point he was awake. It was the first day of classes and the boy was realising that it wouldn't be all fun and games at Hogwarts. He was quick to get dressed into his uniform, and slip on his glasses. He quickly put his writing utensils into his bag, and then yawned loudly. He knew he should leave, but he didn't want to. Avie was not too education. He didn't want to be up this early because someone else told him to. However, he knew that he couldn't be late on his first day, so he mustered up all the strength he could and went to class.

Avery had History of Magic first, which would be an interesting enough class he was sure. They wouldn't be doing much, he thought, since it was their first week, and no one really wanted to learn during the first week. With little to no difficulties the boy managed to find the room, right on the time where the doors to the room opened. Avie headed in and took the first available seat in the second last row near the back. He sat down, pulled out things he might need but probably wouldn't actually use. He glanced around him, and just yawned loudly. Stretching his arms a bit in front of him. This was silly, this was too early. This was also the first ever real class that the boy had attended. He watched as the professor got up in front of the class and introduced himself, and explained what was expected of them. Avie looked to the board and well, he could see just fine, but a few of the words he didn't really know, and he had some difficulties reading it. So, instead of doing like the others, he just pretended that he was writing something. When in fact he was just scribbling on the paper. The professor then went on to explain where they were currently sitting was going to be their spot for the entire semester. Avie was then asked by the professor to hand out a bit of paper to all the others in the class. Avie nodded and did it without complaining, though he didn't want to do it. Finally once every one had one, he gave the spare back to the professor and then filled out the sheet. It was suppose to be for homework, but Avie just filled it out in class, since it was fairly easy.

Saffron hadn't slept really. It was a strange bed with several other people in the room. That and she was excited to see what she would be learning today. She looked at her watch and knew that it was time to get up. Saffron made sure that she was dressed down to the letter of dress code aside for her cloak which she couldn't seem to leave behind. Like some children had a blanket or a toy that they carried around everywhere Saffron had the cloak that reminded her of home. Or at least this is how she rationalized why she wasn't wearing everything school standard but no one would say anything she hoped. Down in the great hall she sat in the comer of the Slytherin table and ate by herself looking around at the other students. Her mind was way to busy to do anything else. She heard the bell that told them they needed to get to class and nearly raced off to History of Magic.

She took a seat right up at the very front and took out a notebook hoping they would start right away. To Saffron's minor disappointment it was only and introduction class. She shifted a bit in her seat when Professor Spenser said that he only answered to Professor Spenser. What else would anyone call a teacher? It was common knowledge to call professors by their title even when they where outside of school. Even though she never got to go the school she was meant to go she still knew the rules there. She copied down the class rules then started to doodle on the edges of her notebook getting a bit bored. Class ended soon enough though and Saffron packed her things up and left with the assignment for the day in her head.

Nozomi made sure to get up extra early in hopes that even if she did get lost she would at least make it to class on time. Thankfully she only got turned around once and made it into class well before the ball. Taking a seat Nozomi wondered if she would be able to stay awake during this class or if it would bore her to tears.

The ball rang and the Professor started the class right away. Since this was there first class ever the Professor went over the rules and Nozomi could see that some people were taking notes. Nozomi thought about it but that would just be a waste of parchment for her. After the rules had been gone over they were given a piece of parchment to fill out and they were released.

Esme woke with a start, feeling disoriented as her eyes darted around the dormitory, trying to adjust to the unfamiliar surroundings. Where am I? she thought sleepily, rubbing the gunk from her tired eyes. Blurs of green and silvers slowly reasserted themselves into posters, banners and beds as the memory of the Sorting Ceremony swept through her mind, clearing the fog of confusion. Oh, right, yeah. She glanced up at a banner depicting a snake. Hogwarts. Esme yawned and kicked off her blankets, shifting her feet to the ground and recoiling as her skin touched the cold floor. She stuck them back into the warmth of the bed with a groan. The previous night she'd been excited to start her first proper day of being a student, but now the comfort of the bed had overridden that feeling. Figuring she might have a fun class to get her motivated, the young girl reached out to her bedside table and snatched up the folded timetable, checking the day's schedule. History of Magic. Darn. She sighed, dropping the paper back onto the table. History didn't sound all that appealing at all.

After an internal struggle to get up for the day, Esme had dressed and ran down to the hall for a big breakfast before making her way down the First Floor Corridor. She reached the History classroom, where a crowd of other Slytherin and Hufflepuff students had gathered, all around her age and a few faces she recognised from the Common Room. Phew, this has to be the right classroom then. she thought with relief as she lined up and shuffled into the room with the other students, taking a seat towards the middle of the class.

The Professor introduced himself and set a few rules on the board, none of which Esme bothered jotting down. It was common sense mostly, nothing to bother wasting ink on. The lesson drew nearer to its end with nothing taught and Esme tapped her quill against the desk irritably, until a homework sheet was passed around the room. She took the parchment, relatively small considering its lack of much content, and frowned. She should've expected homework to be like this for her first lesson, but hadn't. With an annoyed click of her tongue, the Slytherin quickly scratched down her answers as the bell rang, before handing the sheet in to the Professor and moving on to her next subject.

1. Your full name; Esme Gwendolyn Lancaster
2. Your age; 11
3. Are you Muggle, Pure blood, or what?; It's not something I've ever thought to ask, but there's no Muggle ancestry that I'm aware of.
4. What are your interests?; General outdoor activities.
5. Tell me a little bit about your family; I live with my mother, father and older brother, whom are all magical. I don't see much of my extended family beyond that. The four of us get along most of the time.
6. What would you like to learn in the upcoming lessons in History of Magic?; Nothing too boring, give us the exciting stuff! Great wizard battles, the Death Eaters, that sort of thing.
7. Any additional facts you would like to put down, put here; N/A

[justify]     Maya threw on her robes and fussed over her hair. She was really excited for this class! Even though it was the history, or something, and it probably wouldn't deal with magic physically, being aboriginal, Maya believed that learning about one's roots was a good thing. She honestly believed that learning about the history of magic would be a very interesting thing. She smiled to herself, her hair in ringlets down her back. She was lucky really, she was always good with her hair, though she did miss her mother very much. She put the finishing touches on her appearance and headed towards the first floor. Lucky being on the fifth floor it wasn't a very far walk. As she entered the History of Magic classroom, she noticed that she seemed to be the first Hufflepuff. She didn't mind though and quickly took a seat next to one of the girls in the room. She didn't pull out any of her equipment, because she wasn't sure what she was going to need. She was not surprised at all when the professor immediately started the class. He seemed like a man that knew what he was doing from years of experience. Maya couldn't help drawing comparisons between this class and her HSIE classes back in her muggle school. She smiled at the relief she was feeling at that. Maya was alittle surprised when the professor noted that he would only answer to Professor, or Professor Spenser. She didn't know why anyone would call him by any other name. It was a sign of respect if anything.

The only thing she was struggling with right at this moment was a) using a silly quill, why they couldn't use pencils or pens she would never know and b) the fact that the professor had just waved his wand and made words appear, the rules. It was so weird. She sat back in her chair slightly as she read over the rules. They seemed pretty standard rules, she knew some of them from her muggle school, she would have been in high-school next year, damn. Then the professor went on to explain that he was a pretty easy going professor and that he wasn't hard to get along with. Maya didn't think that really needed to be said, teachers were teachers, she didn't really think of them as friends. When you started thinking of your professor as a friend, that was when you got into trouble. When he handed out the homework, she quickly answered it before leaving. Homework was something she wasn't going to miss.

History had never been a strong point for Jade. Nothing really was a terribly strong point, but history seemed to have a nulling effect on her senses. This class, however, she'd do her best to pay attention, one because the teacher seemed way too nice for her to blatantly fall asleep in his presence, and two because this was the only way she was going to get any background on the charms and spells she'd be learning. So she entered the classroom having plenty of energy and determined to keep it that way. They wouldn't be lecturing today anyway, as it was just a bunch of rule-setting. The rules were more of common sense than anything, but she knew some students would need that reminder.

All in all, she felt like the class wouldn't be too bad. Professor Spenser was engaging, and since there were assigned seats, she could probably strike up conversations with the people either side of her and keep herself awake. The assignment wasn't too bad, so she quickly filled it out and stuffed it into her bag (nearly spilling her inkwell in the process) and left.

Marcellus walked gloomy into the classroom, he was definitely not looking forward to the History of Magic lessons. Everytime he looked in those books he became drowsy, so drowsy that he fell asleep once. It was definitely not going to be his best school subject, but there is nothing worse than Potions he thought so maybe he could still get a good grade. Marcel saw that one desk was empty so quickly took place before someone else did. Once he was sitting he opened his backpack and pulled out a book, ''History of Magic, please let it be a great teacher.'' He muttered softly to himself. Marcel saw that it was getting fuller and fuller, and knew that the lesson could start anytime.

He wrote down everything Professor Raven said, especially the rules, he did not want that house points were deducted because he did not know any of the rules. Every now and then he looked into the classroom, and saw that most of the students also wrote things on their parchment, what for him was a relief because now he would not seem like an egghead. Just before the end of the lesson he was doing his homework quickly, so he did not have to do tonight and had all the time for themselves in the common room.

Rhys sat once again in a back corner of the class. History Of Magic was a class he was a little interested in, but not entirely enthusiastic due to it being a theory class. Rhys had come to love his practical classes, and was becoming more and more confident in his skills. History Of Magic wasnt exactly a class he thought he would excel at. He was a bright boy, but his interests and attention spans were in the wrong places. None the less, here he sat, watching the teacher intently from his corner. Professor Raven. He seemed pretty cool. Had a terrible sense of humour, but seemed better than some of the other teachers Rhys had. He listened with interest as the teacher stated his intentions with the class, and shrugged mentally to himself. 'If the class gets interesting then i may expand my mind. Until then, i think i'll just sit here thank you very much,' he thought to himself as he looked around the classroom. He still hadn't made any friends. He planned on changing that very soon. He just needed to work his way to that point. Rhys took that point in time to scribble down the rules and a few notes about the class in his new writing pad. He had spent most of his money buying a new broom for quidditch, but he had also made the effort to buy some good books to write in. He was beyond stoked with everything that Hogwarts had shown him so far, and he had so much more to go. He thought of his mother and mentally chuckled. She hated him for being magical, and had barely talked to him before he had left for the school. 'Its a wonder why Vrael left,' he joked to himself. He raised an eyebrow at the homework he was given. He wasn't sure if writing about him family was sufficient homework, but he scribbled it down anyway. He didnt care who knew of his family. He wasnt ashamed, he simply didnt care about them. Except for Vrael.

[justify]Francesca was once again, quite late. She ran into class, looking sheepishly at the professor. At least he had not properly started, so the young Slytherin silently slipped in, and sat next to another student in Slytherin. House mates had to stick together, right? She grinned at her classroom companion, and dumped her stuff onto her desk, before looking at the professor as he began to lecture them. He seemed to have a lot of enthusiasm. She loved it, but not enough to concentrate strongly. She rested her chin on her palms, and stared at the professor as he spoke, absorbing what she could. It was History of Magic, and she was magical, and her grandparents talked a lot about old stuff. She totally had this covered. He introduced himself as Jonathan Spenser, and Francis made a mental note. It was important for her to at least remember her professor's names. Otherwise she'd look like a total idiot if she babbled while trying to remember a name. She then looked at the rules, realising that they were pretty average. Stuff about tardiness, good behaviour, respect, and other things that was obvious, normal stuff that she was sure she wouldn't forget.

Francesca looked at the clock as the professor did, realising that the time went incredibly fast. That was fortunate! She wasn't sure of the seating thing though, she liked the thought of parking her butt anywhere, but she would learn soon enough. She accepted the sheet provided to her, and noticed that it was super easy. Oh well, this really couldn't be considered work at all.

Rotem woke up excited to start his first day of lessons, amazed that he was even here! Quickly throwing on his robes, he grabbed his school bag and marched off to his first class of the day, History of Magic! He hadn't been really good at history when he was in a muggle school, but he figured that the history of magic would be exciting! It was sure to have dragons and goblins and duels to the death which is much more interesting than learning about the Bering strait.

Walking into class, Rotem plopped down in an open seat and smiled to the other first years sitting next to him. When class started, the professor stood up and introduced himself as Professor Spencer. As he continued talking it became apparent to Tem that they wouldn't be learning anything super exciting today, so he busied himself doodling on a scrap piece if parchment, vaguely listening when the rules were stated. He highly doubted they would be doing anything highly dangerous in this class so it was probably ok to just have a vague understanding of the law. When it was almost time to leave Professor Spencer gave them their homework and dismissed them from class. Glancing over the assignment, Rotem quickly wrote down his answers before dashing off.

Isabelle's alarm went off, waking her up. "Ugh." moaned Isabelle sleepily. Isabelle forced herself up, and grabbed her dressing gown. She took a deep breath, then ripped the cover off of her, exposing her from the cocoon of warmth to the chilly air inside the room. Isabelle quickly got dressed, checking several times that she was dressed correctly. After using the bathroom to put in her contacts, Isabelle glanced at her watch, then took a double take. Bloody hell - she has 15 minutes to get to History of Magic, and as well as find it! She grabbed some sweets off her dresser, behind a photograph of her family, her bag, and set off, sprinting through the Slytherin Common Room.

As she was just emerging from the Dungeons she heard the bell go off, signaling they had to go to class. Isabelle quickly got lost in the mob of students that emerged from the Great Hall. She held her timetable in her hand, and eventually found her classroom. Checking her watch, she discovered that she was only 5 minutes late. She pushed open the door to her class, and slipped inside. Luckily, she wasn't the last one there. She walked up to the front, and sat down. A few minutes later class started. Isabelle was slightly surprised he had to remind the class to call him Professor Spencer - but then again, not too surprising knowing some of the boys she'd had to deal with in her Muggle school. Isabelle copied down the class rules, then pulled a book out of her bag and started reading. When Professor Spencer spoke Isabelle looked up once more, then looked at the people next to her. Class ended sooner than Isabelle had expected, and she packed up, before quickly filling in the paper and handing in the sheet. Better to do it now, then have it all pile up, Isabelle thought before heading out of class.
