Professor Spenser sat behind his desk, sipping a cup of coffee slowly. He had been in his office nearly the whole night grading papers and planning for the upcoming exam. He sighed and looked at the clock, realizing that the students would be arriving shortly. Professor Spenser put his coffee cup aside and stood up, walking around the room, trying to wake himself up a bit more. It didn't work, so he walked sluggishly back to his desk. The first few students erupted into the classroom and took their seats. Some of them stopped and gave their Professor an odd look, as if wondering why their usually energetic and jovial teacher was looking so very bland. Once all the students had taken their seats, Jonathan stood again and walked to the front of his desk. The students were once again giving him questioning looks. He responded by holding up his index finger in a sign to wait. He reached behind his and picked up the coffee cup, took a long drink, then spoke as he replaced the cup. "As you all can tell I am terribly tired today. I have been up all night grading papers and preparing for the exams. I am going to keep my lecture very short today, as any of the information that I am going to speak about you can find easily at the library." He sighed again. "Have any of you heard about 'the boy who lived'?" Many hands went up and he continued. "Who can tell me the name of this person?" He looked around, and then called on a student sitting in the front row. "Yes?" Jonathan nodded, sleepily. The student put their hand down. "Harry Potter is his name, Professor Spenser." "Very good, thank you. Well, for those of you who are not familiar with the name, he was a young boy who attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry; not this branch, but the original. "At any rate, I can't lecture any longer, I am terribly tired and I am going to release class early today." Several students began talking excitedly to each other. "Now, don't get too excited, you still have homework." Several groans followed that announcement. "It should be very easy; all you will have to do is write an essay about the school of Hogwarts; the history of it; or any famous person you can find out about who was associated with the school. Thank you all for your patience today, I promise I will be more awake for the next lesson. See you next week and have a great day! Class dismissed!" Homework Assignment: I would like all of you to write an essay on the history of Hogwarts (the one from the books) or any of the characters from the books. I would like this to be at least 150 words. If you don't want to write the essay, you may RP the lesson, taking notes, your thoughts on the lesson, and so on; but I would like this to be longer than a few sentences to a paragraph. For extra credit you can do both, RP the lesson, then write the essay. This will be due next week! Take Care! RP: 10 Essay: EC |

Donald entered the History of Magic classroom and gave the professor a polite smile. The 11 year old loved HoM, it was one of his favourite classes. He knew that it was unusual for students to like History of Magic, yet alone to admit to liking it, but Don did. He loved finding about all the wizard and witches of old and how the modern wizard word came to be, it was all so interesting. The Ravenclaw first year sat at the front of the classroom, and dug out his book, parchment and quill, "Hello Professor" he said politely. Now that he was getting a closer look at his head of house, he noticed that he looked rather tired. The little boy started to worry, maybe the professor was ill? Or cursed? Of course the most likely was that he was just tired, but that didn't stop Donald's imagination. Before his thoughts got too out of control though, the professor started the class room. If he was honest, Don was relieved that the professor was only tired, he couldn't even begin to imagine his history teacher being hurt or wounded or cursed or ill. Nor would he want too. Professor Spenser was one of his favourite professors after all, and his head of house. Donald was, however, disappointed when he found out that the lesson was only going to be very short, and a look of despair flashed across his face. Well, at least it gives me another excuse to go to the library he thought to himself, still disappointed. As soon as the professor asked the question about the boy who lived, Donnie's hand shot up, almost begging the professor to select him to answer the question. However his disappointment was set to continue, for the professor choose another child to answer the question, he looked over at his rival pupil, feeling slightly irritated. Maybe he would get another chance to answer a question. Then again, why was Don so desperate to answer questions? Wasn't that just showing off? Maybe he was better off not answering them; after all sometimes you had to be a bit modest, as well as knowledgeable. After all it wasn't quiet in his nature to be a show off, not really. Well, he hoped that it wasn't anyway. In any case, he wasn't going to get another chance to answer a question in this lesson, the professor had just finished. That was quick! he thought to himself, feeling ever more disappointed that he did previously. However the announcement that there was homework did bring some cheer back to his heart. Donald left the classroom when the teacher dismissed the class, determined to write the best essay he could, especially for his Head of House. |

Gabriel Black was enjoying his classes this semester, especially History of Magic which was taught by his head of house. Professor Spenser was a nice man, and Gabe tried to do his best in the class as to impress him. Gabe had settled into life at Hogwarts nicely. It felt just as much like home as his parents house, but maybe that was partially due to the fact that he got to see his mother daily. The first year Ravenclaw waved to Professor Spenser on his way to his desk where he kept himself busy until class began. Gabriel felt compassion for the Professor as he explained how tired he was. The boy understood what a difficult job being a Professor was. Wasn't his mother always saying that was the reason she was so often at the school instead of at their house? Gabe's mind refocused on the lecture just as the Professor asked them all about the boy who lived. The Ravenclaw boy's face flushed slightly as he raised his hand. "Harry Potter is his name, Professor Spenser." Gabriel replied as he was called on. He was very familiar with the wizard, and saw him every year at the birthday parties of his nieces and nephew. Gabriel wondered briefly if Professor Spenser gave the same lecture every year. Would Lyra, Link, and Jemma all have this lesson when they came through school? It was bound to be more awkward for them than it was for Gabriel though he understood why it was appropriate to discuss Harry Potter in class. It just wasn't often that the historical figures were related to you. Or at least sort of related. Before the Ravenclaw boy realized it, class had ended. They were assigned the homework to be due next class. Gabriel nodded his head before getting up to leave. He was headed to the library to get an early start on his homework. |

Hurriedly sprinting a little bandy-legged down several flights of stairs, Lorin raced desperately along the first floor corridor towards the History of Magic classroom. It was his fifth lesson of the year and, with the exams creeping up ominously behind him, he had no intention of being late. Narrowly, the Ravenclaw boy evaded obstacles of students, ducking and leaping to get past. The only time he slowed was upon noting the approach of a prefect, and this sudden fall in speed caused the boy to feel a little sick. Still, he was there, now, panting and puffing, red in the face. Lorin entered the classroom and sat down, resting his aching legs. The lesson did not last for too long, and the Professor soon revealed why- not that it would have been hard to guess, with the easily recognisable symptoms of sleep deprivation that so many worried students knew. Lorin felt sorry for the fair Professor, but was relieved when they were told that they may be given early dismissal from the class. Of course in this luck there came the downfall of an essay due by the following week, but it was nothing the students would not be used to by now, or would at least have greater tolerance for. Lorin wrote down the homework on a spare scrap of parchment and retired to the library for the next couple of hours to really get his head down and write.
