Finley wouldn't really say he was adjusting to Hogwarts. He still thought a lot of it was a bunch of nonsense, but it was still an excuse to get away from the orphanage. And he had absolutely no desire to go back there. He never felt as though he was wanted there, then again, he didn't really feel anyone wanted him at Hogwarts, either. He'd made no attempts to get closer to any of his classmates, despite sharing a room and classes with a lot of them. Instead, he was more than content to be left alone. It was probably for everyone's benefit. It was better not to let anyone get too close and hold no expectations, then he could never feel disappointed when he didn't have any friends and it turned out no one actually cared.
As usual, he found himself alone at the Hufflepuff table, the spots on either side of him completely vacant. It was the end of the breakfast rush already, so most people had already started to drift out of the Great Hall. But not him. Not that he was still eating, but because he was busy quietly studying every person who happened to walk past. And that didn't change, not even when he felt the presence of someone standing there. But he didn't greet them, didn't even tell them to go away. Maybe they would get the message and leave him alone.
